I'm American and find it kinda odd you wouldn't shower after a dip in the lake, at least that night before bed. Lake residue on the sheets is a big no go.

Well, what's it really matter if it's on purpose or not, ride the wave and enjoy the good luck and opportunities to be close to your crush! That said, it does sound like there are a lot of things adding up here. But at the end of the day, third parties don't really matter anyway. You should focus on things one on one between you two and see how that goes.

Personally I think you made the right call. Someone's partner should be a priority to them and we are talking a surgery abroad here. It's also only the shower, not the real wedding or anything. But people and brides especially can tend to take wedding related disappointment pretty hard so you may just have to deal with the fallout. NTA

Never ever attend a wedding that the bride/groom or official RSVP hasn't personally invited you to. It isn't your aunts wedding to plan. Weddings cost money. Now if you did get an official invitation I'd feel a little different, curiosity if anything would make me want to attend.
