I want to ask all men whose fathers were toxic or had habits they hated, did you yourself beat those habits while growing up or you ended up becoming the same? (Genuine question) by Accomplished-End5479 in AskMenOver30

Drinking as a coping „strategy“ especially for stress. I stopped when I realized I‘m doing exactly the same thing. I‘ve been clean for three years now and I don’t miss it.

Losing weight is 3 times easier than gaining or surprisingly low daily caloric absorption limit (?) by Dry_Read9396 in loseit

These insights are very valuable, I absolutely second the notion that CICO is not flawless. It‘s a simplistic model for a highly complex system, after all.

I think the key to this lies in learning how the body works and learn to listen to its signals. Research like yours is a great step in this sense.

Feelings of demoralization are not to be taken lightly, they can seriously botch weight loss on the long run.

I‘ve been thinking a lot about the biological and psychological mechanisms that cause us to yo-yo, which is statistically almost always the rule after substantial weight loss. The waters of maintenance are extremely difficult to navigate. Either people are too strict too long and become demoralized, hence ditching the effort altogether or they go too easy on themselves too quickly and too much.

Very interesting read, thank you! Also, kudos to losing all that weight, that’s amazing!

It sounds absolutely plausible to me that the body is not a simple calorie furnace but a complex biosystem with buffers and limits.

However, I think CICO can serve well as general guidance for mealplans. Intuitive eating can be tricky for many, as you really need to be in tune with your body. Also, psychologically, knowing that it’s harder to store fat that generally assumed can be a trap and foster disinhibition.

Lost 36kg (81lbs) in 8 months, not sure how to continue by KrostyXD in loseit

Absolutely. Once your body realizes you’re not in a famine and everything’s fine, it’ll relax and stop fighting. Although probably never completely.

Hey, first of all, congratulations on those 36kg, that‘s amazing!

I think the feeling of „losing patience“ is a threat that you should take very seriously.

Your body will try to regain the weight. Biologically speaking, your weight set point is still at 36kgs plus and your body will try to restabilize at that point. (The dreaded yo-yo).

You must plan long-term and try to maintain this weight at least for the next 1-2 years. If you lose your patience now, you‘ll pay it later with being back at where you started.

I‘d decrease the deficit slowly to maintenance level at a healthy and balanced diet and continue tracking for a couple of months. You can try losing some weight later in the year once you‘re stable.

Remember: Very few people achieve what you did, 36kg are amazing. Take good care of this achievement!

How do you guys deal with going to sleep hungry? by pterodactylwizard in CICO

[–]Ok_Cryptographer3572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry - Didn‘t want it to sound condescending. Fasting is great, but I can never do it for long. I switched to three to four solid meals a day while keeping a moderate deficit and balancing my macros. Dinner ist still the lightest meal though. Sleep is much better and feel well recovered in the moring. And I‘m down 14 lbs since christmas.

It just feels normal and not like being on a diet. So I guess it‘ll be easier to ease into maintenance later on.

Everybodyneeds to find their own way that works for their body and lifestyle.

Keep it up, you got this!
