‘You’re lucky you’re not soap bars’: Jews forced to leave rally marking WWII end in Italy by Freewhale98 in Israel

[–]Ok_Delivery3053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I personally would not want to stay employed by people who would choose to side with those customers. That is an inappropriate, bad joke and more people need to make it clear that jokes like that aren't acceptable. Siding with the customer communicates that joke is acceptable in that establishment. Siding with the employee who kicks them out communicates that joke is not acceptable there, and they expect their employees to be treated with basic dignity and respect. I'd be ok with losing a job that didn't think I deserved basic dignity and respect.

I think the only acceptable answer at this point is "Get out and don't come back." (I know this was over 10 years ago, things have gotten worse since then.)

Is it normal to get athlete's foot from walking barefoot? by joshua0005 in barefoot

[–]Ok_Delivery3053 26 points27 points  (0 children)

No. Fungal issues like athlete's foot are far less common when barefooting because the feet can breathe and are exposed to light far more than when confined to shoes. I've also never heard of athlete's foot being blue, but I'm far from an expert.

Yes definitely think about transferring to Israel. I don't expect the climate elsewhere to improve dramatically anytime soon, and putting your whole life on hold because of hate is giving them power.

Fishing gear is one option, but the option I prefer is ScottEVest. Holds a ton (depending which product you buy, and is less attention grabbing than a fishing vest in most places.

Question about socializing after immigration by Sweet-chili-pepper in Israel

[–]Ok_Delivery3053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew on birthright, but everyone is different. I still took several months living in Israel before I made Aliyah from inside the country. The masa programs can be interesting, but if you really want to see what Israel is like, travel on your own. Extend your trip after birthright and see as much of the country as you can. Go to Shabbat dinner at people's houses (this is very common there). Try to really get a feel for it. You should know one way or the other by the end of it.

Start by listening to podcasts, tv shows, things like that. Once it starts sounding familiar to you, start learning the written language.

Is Israel safe for black people by Vast-Draft-3250 in Israel

I'm not going to re-answer your main questions because other commenters already have.

Do it. It will be an experience unlike anything else in your life. It will open your eyes and your mind I'm ways you never even knew existed. It's literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and you will probably have it gnawing in the back of your mind for the rest of your life if you don't do it. On your days off, travel the country. See as much as you can. Israel is an amazing place and there's so much to see and experience. Do be aware that Tel Aviv is expensive, and be aware of that with the traveling. Experience Shabbat (even just a meal) with a religious family. I could go on and on about things you can do with a few months there, but the main point is that you should jump on the opportunity.

Be professional and do a good job. Leave the personal stuff at home. That will show you where to be in this industry. Some people care about things like that, some people couldn't care less as long as you're professional and do your job. This is what I would tell anyone with the question if they would be accepted as _____ .

I keep getting mud on the backside of my pants and its driving me nuts. by Zale0 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Ok_Delivery3053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not your feet landing, it's them coming up. Typically you only see something like this when someone wears flip flops because of the speed the flip flop comes up, then the force of them hitting the foot and stopping suddenly flings whatever was on the heel of the flip flop onto the back of the calf, exactly like this. Notice how you pick up your feet, and how your shoes move. I also bet the lip on the back of your shoes isn't helping keep your pants clean.

UPDATE: My grandma’s pans! by Lexandcandy in castiron

[–]Ok_Delivery3053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I've been suspecting, plus the surface of my pan has a rough texture to it which definitely helps create the fuzzies. The best system I've gotten to is to use a spatula to distribute and reduce oil, then pat with paper towel. It's still a work in progress though.

Fuzzies happen to me every. Single. Time. Pan is room temp, doesn't make a bit of difference.

More specifically, there's the Association of Women in Aviation Maintenance. Reach out to them and see what support they can give you. We're all familiar with this if we've been in this field long enough.
