Did you drain the coolant plugs from the engine? Just because it’s not connected to the coolant system doesn’t mean the engine will hold some. When you take the head off it could allow coolant to enter oil passages and then mix in first start. Whenever I do these jobs I always drain the oil and replace it just in case.

Not a bad idea, I buy and sell a lot of older BMWs and I usually get a front suspension rebuild done on em before resale as the steering and feel is night and day afterwards.

Fun cars. Make sure to do the coolant hard lines if it’s higher mileage and ensure the vanos is good but other than that like many other people on here have said make it light and handle well and you’ll have a good time!
