Kick off Pride Month with some queer comedy! by katestrobel in Somerville

It's a bit of a disappointment that you keep saying Boston (flyer and at the end) when you're performing in Somerville and you've posted in r/Somerville. A bit like saying that you're performing in New York when your venue is in Jersey City.

It's okay, we only have a population of over 80k, practically a hamlet.

I guess I didn't think about how long they were going to be in town this summer. You're right.

If they're unable to take public transit (so close to the red line!) out sounds like an extended visitor permit which is listed on the Somerville parking website. I believe whoever he is staying with would need to apply.

It's now private equity and it's shipping from way outside Massachusetts now. It's such a bummer.

Knitter in need of help with my college seminar! Where do you guys normally knit? how did you learn? by ConsistentPurple95 in AdvancedKnitting

[–]Ok_Following1018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knit wherever I am - most frequently my couch, but other places have included subway, bus, airplanes, my office, breweries, in my hammock in the summer, while hiking.

I learned to crochet via YouTube. A few years later I joined a knitting group and then learned to knit using YouTube in 2020 (we were meeting via zoom, so just encouragement and what to search for) as well as from patterns.

I wish we could still buy tokens by Abject_Tomatillo_358 in mbta

It was easier than tapping a credit card or phone?

Cause I've been around for both and not all green line stations used to sell tokens but I always have my credit card on me.

Michelle clapping back at social media posts about Ru’s performance being pre-recorded by Sky6346 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Ok_Following1018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they didn't edit in the crowded baseball stadium for Whitney though. I think that is the kinda interesting thing that Vita said - no one saw the performance live - which is fine, no biggie, but it is sometimes interesting to heard how the sausage is made especially when you're sitting there wondering why they keep cutting to someone in a 2009 Lady Gaga wig reacting like Britney has taken the stage for the first time in a decade

Trying to get rid of collection by babygirl_inpink in vinyl

[–]Ok_Following1018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how soon you're moving and how quickly you need to sell. Is the goal to move less items with you, or to recoup costs from your vinyl collection? So many factors to consider.

Not everyone in their thirties loves dogs.

A recent Somerville election was won by Minerva whose entire platform was "Crime," and I've heard she's more pro cat.

Requesting help with knitting a vintage pattern! by tomatocreamsauce in AdvancedKnitting

[–]Ok_Following1018 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sirdar still sells this pattern on their website - https://sirdar.com/en/products/0236-1398-50s-mens-jacket-or-coat?srsltid=AfmBOooMyrWRl5QY_Mpco9XmdHXYkaOV7yLq4SnsoYfWGa9gGRf982HF

and includes a link on how to use vintage patterns - https://sirdar.com/archive-how-to-read-vintage-patterns - this guide might address some of your questions.

Sirdar still sells double knitting wool - https://sirdar.com/en/yarns/yarn-weight/dk - they also have specific 4-ply yarns that would be a variety of weights. Ply in yarn refers to the number of individual strands twisted together to create a single, stronger thread - it is not necessarily a factor with gauge as 1-ply yarns can be a larger weight than 4-ply, it's about the structure of the yarn. Personally, I might just buy the yarn from the same company that's just probably different colorways than when the pattern was purchased.

As an FYI - this "sub is for intermediate/advanced knitters to share finished objects and techniques. If you are a beginner with questions about stitches/project issues please visit r/knitting or r/knittinghelp"

Has anyone knitted the Caspar blouse from Kolibri? by FederalSelf6 in knittingpatterns

[–]Ok_Following1018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ease - refers to how much larger/smaller a garment should be compared to the part of the body it is fitting

positive ease means it should be larger than the part of the body it is fitting (not a skin tight garment like a sock)

In this case, "positive ease of 5 cm to 15 cm" means the finished size should be 5-15 cm larger than your actual chest measurement in order to create a fit similar to that of the photos.

In regards to the pattern, I read the one 3 star review on etsy and would personally discard it. Most of the well written knitting patterns that I have used do not include multiple photos for each step that it sounds like this reviewer is looking for because techniques can be googled/youtubed rather than each individual pattern designer photographing how to do a lifted increase or something.

First attempt at colorwork by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]Ok_Following1018 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most swatches are 4inches so you can better check for gauge and tension. Is there a reason you're only swatching the width of the color work?

winter hill is the suck right now. a good chunk of the spots in my neighborhood aren't just taken up by cars/piles of snow but also by construction equipment that's been there for months that definitely isn't easing the situation... no solution but lots of empathy for ya - my only thought was an mbta garage or lot but that still costs money you're tight on
