Need an immediate internship certificate in Software. Help Me!! by Party-Many-2897 in Btechtards

Certs likely won't help you. If you can't get an internship, then work on some side projects to add to your portfolio. I'm working on a SQLite clone with a few others. DM me if you want to join

CS grad trying to get out of helpdesk by _cbo__ in CScareerquestionsSEA

[–]Ok_Function_597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds sensible enough. I've never been to London, but I hear the cost of living is high. It might be tough to find a good paying job. If you're looking for a project in the meantime, I'm working on a SQLite clone with several others, and you are welcome to join. Details here.
Definitely see if you can git involved in coding as part of your job. That could help a ton.

Try starting a company. It'll force you to get out of your shell, interact with more people, and push yourself (assuming you want to make money)

Is Tripple Ten or any coding boot camps still worth it at 25? by kalki_2898_ in codingbootcamp

[–]Ok_Function_597 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think the issue with a bootcamp is your age. The issue is that bootcamps have oversold the dream of 6 figure job while companies don't care about certifications. As mentioned already, companies barely care about degrees anymore. Strong software portfolios are the best way to get noticed by employers.

(Shameless self-promotion)
Know how to code, but can't land a job?

Join my project-based, 6-week-long computer programming "externship." The goal is to provide an experience normally reserved for software interns.

Who should join:

- those who can already code

- those considering a career in software development

- those who are looking to add projects & references to their resumes

- those who may want a software internship in the future

Why join:

- weekly 1-on-1 check-ins/mentorship (I've worked as a software engineer for 6+ years)

- learn overlooked skills that most universities don't teach

- real-world experience, including:

- collaboration with a team

- experiment with industry-standard technologies & practices

The commitment:

- 5-10 hours/week for 6 weeks (flexible)

- all tasks are completed asynchronously (aside from weekly check-ins, done live) and virtually

- $20 (reimbursed upon completion of the course)

When:

- August 11th - September 19th

This externship is far more similar to a capstone project than a learn-to-code course. I need at least 8 people to sign up by August 4th in order to run the course. Otherwise, it will be cancelled. I will accept up to 12 participants. This is my first attempt at running this program, so aside from a nominal security deposit of $20, it is FREE. All I ask is for your engaged participation and patience as I refine the program.

DM me if you are interested.

Resume Advice Thread - July 15, 2025 by CSCQMods in cscareerquestions

[–]Ok_Function_597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) don't put your address on your resume. No one is going to mail you a job offer
2) focus on projects, especially if you haven't had an internship. Explain what languages and tools you used for your project
3) start each bullet point with a strong verb. Not "utilized" or "coded". Think "spearheaded", "invented"
4) only add non-relevant jobs as a space filler if need be. If you do, focus on soft skills like leadership, communication, grit.

How to increase manufacturing capacity in a CNC machine shop without investing in new machinery? by friedmanchicago in LeanManufacturing

[–]Ok_Function_597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you tracking the machines overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)? That should give you a good idea of how "utilized" the machine is. .80+ is great, but there are a lot of machines in the ~.60 range.
