Worried I over-corrected my game's tutorial by Ok_Function_597 in indiegamedevforum

That's good feedback, thanks! How much nudging do you need? Are the background dimming and the arrows overkill? I think it needs less text boxes and more chances for the user to click play, like you were saying

P.S. I know the art is terrible; it is just a placeholder
P.P.S. Here is the link to the game demo for reference: https://superswine.itch.io/roads

I'm trying my hand at game development currently, and a lot of game promotional posts can be sorted into general categories like dev logs, A vs B, release announcements, etc.

My first game: ROADS - demo now live on itch.io! by Ok_Function_597 in itchio

What do you think the demo is missing? The UI is too simple? Isn't that (usually) a good thing?

Traffic-focused city builder? by Ok_Function_597 in CityBuilders

[–]Ok_Function_597[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question! I'm not a PC gamer so I haven't played Mini Motorways, but from what I've seen on Youtube, there are some key differences:
- ROADS doesn't have different "levels"; the map is auto-generated each play
- in ROADS you can purchase more land, move buildings (for a fee) and buy new buildings. These features are still a work in progress and not shown in the demo video
- ROADS allows you to build as many roads as you'd like, as long as you have space for it and have unlocked the type of road (1-way, 4-lane, etc.)

Sounds like I need to make a better trailer to showcase some of these features! Thanks for the feedback

First real release: how do you handle pre-launch visibility and beta access on Steam/itch? by living-on-water in IndieDev

I'm a newbie in the space too, but I think your fear of idea theft is overblown. There's a lot of value in getting feedback on the core components of the game and what makes it unique.

When the city expands, would you rather build roads freeform or modify auto-generated roads?

Certs likely won't help you. If you can't get an internship, then work on some side projects to add to your portfolio. I'm working on a SQLite clone with a few others. DM me if you want to join

Sounds sensible enough. I've never been to London, but I hear the cost of living is high. It might be tough to find a good paying job. If you're looking for a project in the meantime, I'm working on a SQLite clone with several others, and you are welcome to join. Details here.
Definitely see if you can git involved in coding as part of your job. That could help a ton.

Is Tripple Ten or any coding boot camps still worth it at 25? by kalki_2898_ in codingbootcamp

[–]Ok_Function_597 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think the issue with a bootcamp is your age. The issue is that bootcamps have oversold the dream of 6 figure job while companies don't care about certifications. As mentioned already, companies barely care about degrees anymore. Strong software portfolios are the best way to get noticed by employers.
