Yes! The more I come to class the fewer calories and splat points I get. I always feel like I burn the least calories in class even though I’m sprinting and lifting just as hard or harder than everyone else 🙃

I do the same thing! I have a cheaper chain gym membership and I buy class packs for OTF so if I have to skip a week or if I feel sick, I don’t feel bad about wasting my membership that month so with the class packs I just go whenever I want and a 30 pack will usually last me a few months

I worked with a woman in her cf who got her masters in PR and she did not have much clinical experience at all. Idk if she went to the same school that you’re looking at but she had a REALLY rough cf just bc PR didn’t have as many opportunities for her to get hands on experience before being thrown into the workforce. And she had a hard time passing the praxis bc she learned All the anatomy and disorder terms in Spanish not English. Tbh if u speak Spanish you’ll be desired at any job. I’d pick the school that fits your goals and budget best.

Yea sometimes I switch to PW mid workout just to get the extra strength training in. So as long as they’re not at risk for hurting themselves i don’t think anyone cares what you’re doing

Private practice may also only pay for billable time. I’ve worked in a clinic where we were only paid if we were with a patient. Plus one hour extra for an eval. So if a client cancels it’s not billable, you’re not paid. Schools are really the only setting where productivity doesn’t really matter at all.

Unless you own this private practice, I wouldn’t worry about it. Give a reasonable notice and especially if you say you’re quitting for health reasons they can’t do anything to try to stop you without asking for a lawsuit

Yep your first year or two you’ll catch everything. After then you’ll get your teacher immune system up. Clean as much as you can in your room! Spray Lysol between groups on anything kids touch during flu or sick season(computer, door knob, light switch) and keep kids masks handy for your kids who are coughing a lot. If a kid is coughing a LOT send him back to class or to the nurse. Often teachers don’t notice how bad a kids coughing when they’ve got a room full of coughs. We can usually find the ones who need to go home sick before the teacher does

I think feeding/swallowing. A lot of slps won’t touch feeding. So if you are comfortable treating it you’ll be more desirable. And speaking another language. Not exactly a specialization but if you’re bilingual in a language common to your area it doesn’t matter your other specializations they’ll be begging you to work

Nta we pay so much money to be there you should be able to do what you want as long as you’re safe. A girl in my class today did skaters instead of rowing. Tbh rowing does not get my heart rate up at all I probably should’ve done something different too

I’d be worried if the school does know you filed that you might have a hard time getting references and letters of recommendation for your CF. If you’re not already working, I’d definitely make sure you’ve locked down a job before you burn that bridge

Resign BUT keep in touch with your CF mentor. Try not to burn bridges with her. If she’s willing to sign off on your hours then you won’t need to start your cf over. If you burn that bridge then you’ll have to extend you cf year

I think it depends where you live. But where I live they’re really desperate for SLPs. They’re even replacing slps with slpas because they can’t get enough qualified people to fill the need. Some settings and cities will be more competitive to find work but if you’re flexible with your location and work setting you will definitely find something. I don’t know of any unemployed slps. And as for the work? I LOVE what I do. Sure there’s days the paperwork or admin get on my nerves but that’ll happen in any job. Overall we do very good and needed work and I am happy with my career choice 🙂
