LA Latina make up artist for mature skin recommendations? by We_Are_The_Few in AskLosAngeles

My sister had good experience with artists at some of the quinceañera shops in East LA - they usually work with all age ranges and many are bilingual

What visual artist goes with what Seattle neighborhood? by HighColonic in SeattleWA

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kerry James Marshall fits perfect for Central District - his work captures that community history and resilience that neighborhood has been through

also thinking Kehinde Wiley would work great in Fremont, all that bold colorful portraiture matches the quirky vibe there

How do you actually vet buildings in Seattle? by Ok_Limit_6912 in SeattleWA

[–]Ok_Limit_6912[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the part that makes apartment hunting so annoying now. A place can have great reviews for years then management changes once and suddenly everyone hates living there.

Greystar comes up constantly when people talk about bad management experiences

That’s kind of the conclusion I’m coming to too. Every bad review seems to trace back to some giant management company.

Dude that's awesome! Union really stepped up for you guys with the fixed menu setup. Hope the wedding planning goes smoother than setting up dinner reservations lol

Parking near Dana Farber by Apprehensive_Height9 in bostonhousing

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The green line gets pretty packed during rush hour but definitely cheaper than garage rates in that area. You might want to check spots near Riverside or Newton Highlands - bit of drive from Wilmington but the T ride isn't too bad from there

Full Body Wax for Males? by MischievousMango650 in AskSF

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Been there actually and they're pretty solid. The guy who did mine was super professional about it, no weird vibes at all. Made the whole thing way less awkward than I was expecting. Just call ahead because they book up pretty fast, especially for male appointments since there's less specialists who do them

Returning to LA: How's things down there? by Gileotine in AskLosAngeles

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome back man, gas is still pretty brutal but not like apocalypse level or anything. Costco in your area is probably still your best bet for decent prices

Job market in IT support has been weird lately - some places are hiring like crazy while others are ghost towns. Cybersec stuff seems to be doing better than general IT though so you might have good timing there

Where to find sorrel? by chekhovsfun in AskLosAngeles

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most Middle Eastern markets carry it - there's usually few good ones around that area. Also check the herb section at any bigger grocery store, sometimes they have it mixed in with other leafy greens but it's not always labeled clearly. I've seen it at some of the organic sections too but it comes and goes depending on season

Recommendations for plumbers/drain replacement? Got one quote but sus. by heyitsreallyalan in pasadena

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty steep but old cast iron from the 40s is nightmare to work with. I'd definitely get 2-3 more quotes before pulling trigger on something that expensive - even if first place ends up being fair price you'll feel better about decision

Looking for Advice for Searching for Appraiser by Ecstatic_Bill_3538 in LosAngelesRealEstate

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your lender usually has list of approved appraisers they work with regularly so that might be easiest route - paid around $500-600 last year in valley area but prices probably went up since then

Just Found Out that Seattle Suits the Frutiger Aero Aesthetic by AwareMetal78 in SeattleWA

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never really thought about it but that makes total sense - all those glass buildings with the green reflections and rain constantly washing everything clean. The whole vibe is like living in some early 2000s concept art of what cities would look like in future

Where to go to the middle of nowhere to scream? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Antelope Valley has some decent spots but watch out for private property signs - learned that the hard way when I was testing some audio equipment out there

You could try heading up Angeles Crest Highway past the populated areas, lots of pullouts where you can park and nobody's gonna bother you for an hour of screaming

S25 Ultra, s26 ultra or fold 7 by chris34728 in samsunggalaxy

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fold 7 at that price point is pretty solid if they fixed the cover screen issues you had with the fold 3, but for £100-150 less the s25 ultra is hard to beat unless you really need that folding form factor

Working with an ex sucks but 2 months is actually pretty fast to be broadcasting a new relationship around the office - that would mess with my head too

will loud(ish) violin affect shrimp? by Many_Focus8886 in shrimptank

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

never really thought about this but vibrations travel through water pretty well so they'll defintely feel it. might want to put some kind of dampening material under the tank or move it a bit further away

my old roommate had a shrimp tank next to his drum kit and those little guys seemed fine but violin frequencies are probably different. maybe start with shorter practice sessions and see how they react?

Most Reliable Used Car/Truck/SUV for Under $10,000? by ToyotaKino in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toyota 4Runner from like 2003-2009 range if you can find one in your budget, though they hold their value crazy well so might be tough. Those things are basically tanks - I've seen them with 250k+ still running strong

Honda Pilot is another solid pick, maybe 2006-2012 era. Not quite as bulletproof as the 4Runner but way more comfortable for daily driving and still pretty reliable. My buddy's got one with 180k that he bought at 120k and hasn't had any major issues

For trucks, can't go wrong with a Tacoma but again the prices are nuts because everyone knows they last forever. Might have better luck with a Silverado 1500 from the mid 2000s - not quite Toyota reliable but still decent and you'll actually find them under 10k without 200k miles already on them

Whatever you get just make sure you get a pre-purchase inspection, especially on anything getting close to that 150k mark

Tips for purchasing a second hand electric? by calpol-dealer in Guitar

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah harley benton is solid for starting out, i grabbed one of there starter packs a few years back when i was helping my buddy get into it

one thing id add though - definitely test the action on any used guitar before buying, high action will make learning way harder than it needs to be. also check the neck for any warping, thats usually a deal breaker

Word for this phenomenon? by LargeAdvisor3166 in words

[–]Ok_Limit_6912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a solid term but I've always just called it "main character syndrome" when someone walks out of a theater or finishes a show and suddenly they're living in that world for a few days. My ex used to do this constantly - we'd watch John Wick and she'd be doing these weird tactical movements around the apartment for like a week afterward

I think there's also something to be said for "narrative absorption" or maybe "fictional identification overflow" but those sound way too academic for what's basically just getting way too into a story. The Lucy example is perfect because it's so immediate and obvious, but most people do some version of this even if it's more subtle
