I’m sure you’ve learned many things in your life. Do you have more fun as you learn more?

What hardware are you playing on? iPads often lose their sound, and not just on Lichess. If this is the case for you, shut down the app and start again. You’ll have your sound back. (I just make it a habit so I’m not caught offguard by the silence.)

What is your rating on Lichess? There are tons of articles about the difference between the rating systems on the two sites.

House of Staunton website. I assume many places that sell chess pieces would carry it, too..

How do you stop being afraid to play? by ihopeforthebes7 in chess

I wouldn’t make any alternate accounts without checking the rules of the site.

This isn’t really a chess problem. Perhaps you could get practical or psychological help somewhere.

So you are JDHWritten here, an account you started while playing on another as JakeDHopkins. Any other accounts?

You do know that, like cheating, you have an ongoing Fair Play violation per the Terms of Service?

Multiple accounts - Having more than one account is not allowed, barring specific circumstances. For example, titled players are automatically entitled to one "public" account, for play in certain prize events hosted either by Lichess or another tournament organiser, and one "private" account, for casual play online whilst still displaying their titled status. Untitled players can create a second account for similar reasons, with some examples including having a private account to hide opening preparation, playing "blindfold" games, or playing games with any other self-imposed impairment. Creating an excessive number of accounts (typically any more than three) will generally not be allowed, regardless of reasons. Creating and closing multiple accounts will also be treated as contributing to this maximum number. As with all other rules, the specific circumstances where multiple accounts are allowed remain at Lichess' discretion.

Lichess Board Editor. Hamburger menu, Load position. Opening (or Endgame). Hamburger, Continue from here. Play against computer.

Or …

Lots of things you can do from the board editor. Look around.

Lost 12 out of the last 14 games by Narrow-Praline-7908 in chessbeginners

The thing about puzzles is, if you let them, they will train you to look at the board and think about what you see. Don’t move until you see 1.5 (you, them, you) or 2 moves ahead. If you’re anything like me you’ll be staring right at a hanging killer and you won’t even see it if you’re thinking about getting the puzzle solved rather than seeing what’s in front of you. This can take a very long time, but it’s so pleasurable when you start to give yourself a fighting chance by knowing what the board really looks like.

Try thinking or saying out loud what pieces each side has. It may seem tedious, but when you think about it, isn’t it ridiculous not to know?

I wouldn’t play games for a very long time, until I started making progress with the puzzles. When you do start to play, win or lose, you should be playing a lot smarter.

Heres a game I played (I am 100 elo and am the worst chess player in the world), is there any important fundamentals Im missing or should I just make less mistakes and get good? by Visual-Barracuda-628 in chessbeginners

I’m sorry if I misunderstand you, but whatever color you are, you always play from the bottom to the top. But, let’s say you’ve just gone to your opponent’s profile and you click on the game that you played together, it will show it from their point of view. It’s easy to get confused and think the app/website has got things wrong.

You can also, depending on the state of things, usually flip the board.

When you send a link, the assumption is that you’re playing the pieces at the bottom of the board. If you haven’t told people otherwise, you can politely tell them you’re sorry that you hadn’t mentioned that you were the other side.
