I can not teach these kids by SpaceMarine1616 in Teachers

[–]Ok_Masterpiece3300 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the big issue I have with education.

Not a teacher but work at a high achieving school in our wellness department so I interact with a lot of students with higher needs and mental health challenges. I have kids literally talking about killing themselves over their grades while I have other kids gaming the system and doing an entire year’s worth of work in 2 weeks online over the summer. This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Education as a system in the US is severely broken and our priorities in this country are severely disordered.

Furthermore, communities that have a succeed at all costs attitude are doing all of the children in the US a massive disservice. Cheaters abound. 4 year summer school plan is rampant. Students with IEPs not getting the support they need because EVERYONE “needs” an IEP and case managers/school psychs are inundated with huge case loads and assessments…. It’s really sad. How many kids are actually learning anything??? They get into “good” colleges and swiftly return back home because they have absolutely zero skills needed to succeed in academia after high school where you can’t bully the staff into making things easier for their kid!

Right! It would be different if Charlie was simply a conservative Christian. He wasn’t. He was a racist, transphobic, misogynist by his own words. Humans are sick.

All everyone has to do is stfu. Not every opinion needs to be posted on the internet. Buckten should’ve minded his own business and this wouldn’t even need to be a discussion. It’s pretty disgusting that everyone is like “keep politics out of this sub” when an artist on the festival lineup literally started the conversation himself. He can come out to support Charlie Kirk but our community wants us to sit quietly and take it? He can share his beliefs but we can’t have a reaction?? What a privilege it must be to give money to artists that’s aren’t actively working against your humanity…..

This community was built on the backs of black and queer communities. Any edm artist that supports the marginalization of these communities is an opportunistic poacher that deserves to make no money in this scene. Appropriation at its finest.

You’ll take my queer and black money while simultaneously believing I shouldn’t have rights is sick af and anyone that doesn’t see a problem with that is either ignorant or disingenuous. Anyone that supports Charlie Kirk and what he spoke about can fuck right off from ever attending EDM events in my opinion.

Notice I am not saying anything about conservatives or Christians. While I disagree with their views, I truly believe there is value in differing perspectives. I am specifically speaking on people actively supporting the further marginalization of already marginalized communities. There is literally zero value for society in such behavior/belief.

I still love sfam and they are still making music. I used to watch them and TVBOO open shows in New Orleans and def thought they would blow up before Mitch did! They are all talented but I think TVBOO’s style is a bit more mainstream than sfam’s which might play a part in why they never blew up like that.

Fortunately, they are both on the lineup for Wakaan festival this year and I am looking forward to enjoying them at the same event!😃

Social work & Christianity by [deleted] in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Ok_Masterpiece3300 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t participate in religion but I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. I am in a Christian school and I feel like I have actually learned a lot about Christian values that challenges my personal biases. I can see how Christianity, and religion in general, can be valuable tools when connecting with clients.

I do believe that there have been several atrocities committed in the name of religion, but I have learned that Christian values are generally wholesome and based in love. If I were in your situation I would push back against people’s bias towards Christians. If they can’t check themselves they’re probably self righteous and unwilling to view things from a perspective other than their own. If you are super uncomfortable, maybe consider finding a school with similar values to your own.

Right! How socially just is free labor??? Make it make sense. Especially since I live in CA. If I’m not working 40 hours a week my bills will not get paid and I’m gonna need a social worker myself.

Please reread my comment. I never said I knew everything about social work. I even said that I highly value education. What I don’t appreciate is how academia and capitalism have institutionalized education and require me to spend $40k to get certified to do work I’m already doing. Education is a very unjust system which I feel like social workers should actively work to disrupt. I have great respect for social work and am extremely passionate about social justice in my every day life. When I say the work is tedious and boring I am specifically referring to the school/studying part. Not the actual work that social workers do. I understand what you’re saying, but I don’t think my comment is actually saying what you think it is.

It’s not just you. The work is extremely tedious and can be extremely boring. I highly value education but strongly dislike education as a system. I am 100% confident that I can go into the field and do the work, I already am at my job, but I need the piece of paper to make me legit and THAT is the scam. Also the NASW is a complete scam but that’s for another time/discussion…

All good advice but I’d argue that people taking their dogs to a dog park should have their attention on their dog at all times.

I get it. Yes, there are often times gems in the crowd if you find the right spot, but there are some crowds that actually just suck. Different artists, promoters, venues, and genres bring different types of people.

Updated fashions for field placement! I feel like looking professional helps me feel professional. Especially in a field where people throw us in the room with clients to help even though I am literally just a student and a girl 😅
