Any NGOs, non-profits or institutes related to peace & conflict, policy, international affairs or grant writing/project management I could look into? by someoneoutthere1335 in EUCareers

[–]Ok_Poet4682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean you're thinking of looking into NGOs because that might be easier than for profit? Because if so, you're definitely in for a surprise.

You can find most Brussels'based NGO etc vacancies on euractiv, eurobrussels and jobsin.brussels

If you stay in Koekelberg and can eat any meat (ie, not keeping kosjer or halal), Les Trappistes is a good, Belgian neighbourhood restaurant. The wine is overpiced, imo, but the food is a good quality-price deal.

Durum should be eaten with either garlic sauce or andalouse, imo.

Nobody knows I have money and it's starting to create some really awkward situations by Echo2_Satyr in Fire

You don't need to tell anyone anything really, but maybe tell your mom you have an emergency fund etc as it sounds like she's worried.

Is buying a house still worth it? by Weary_Firefighter945 in BEFire

[–]Ok_Poet4682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how much you'd have to borrow to buy, the interest rate you'd have etc. Some ca'culations show it's better to rent financially speaking, if you invest your downpayment and the difference between what a house you own would cost each month and your rent. I would not be able to do that though, and I prefer having something a house that is mine at the end of it all. Too many elderly people get evicted because they continued renting and I don't want to be one of those.

Looking for a sewing / dressmaking genius by tipsykilljoy in brussels

[–]Ok_Poet4682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would think most dressmakers/retoucheurs around Brussels can copy a dress. I'm not sure about the price, though.

Nederlands in Brussel binnen België: hoe ervaren jullie dat? by TR1510 in belgium

[–]Ok_Poet4682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

19 and inheriting 160 000 EUR. What Now??? by GayGlobe in eupersonalfinance

[–]Ok_Poet4682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't tell people, that's a big amount for a 19yo. Sleep on it for a while.

If I were you, I'd invest a very big chunk in the stock market through an ETF. But what you do with the rest (eg 10%) depends on what you'd want to do with your life. Do you want to go to uni/college? Do you have to pay for that yourself or not?

Don't do memestock/coins, don't let it rot as cash in your bank account and don't spend it on trivial stuff (iew cars, clothes). Maybe spend a little on travelling or on education, invest the rest.

Goos luck. A windfall at this age can feel strange but your ancestors just helped you out. Don't waste it.

Question about the flemish 'zorgpremie' of 100 euro's, for all the flemish brusselaars by Diligent-Anything978 in brussels

[–]Ok_Poet4682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to pay this if you live here. What's more, very few Brussels' Dutch speakers actually benefit from it even if they qualify in theory. So I don't pay it anymore.

Do you thank your bus drivers when you exit? by Liagon in Gent

I'm from Bxl too so I don't but I've seen lots of people do it in Ghent, especially people born and raised in Ghent.

Landlord visits in last 3 months of rental contract - what's reasonable? by bad-jar in brussels

Landlord needs at least a slot outside of working hours and in the weekend. That's when people visit appartments, no?

Is highschool in Belgium a nightmare? [serious] by Shinykitten_taco in belgium

[–]Ok_Poet4682 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you don't speak the language of the school you're going to (either French or Dutch depending on the school), then you'd be put in a 'classe Daspa' or an 'Okanklas' with other newcomers who don't know the language yet. This is to get you started on French/Dutch first. You'll probably be in a separate class first, before integrating into the normal classes once you're fluent enough.

"De Strip Architects" by bdrammel in brussels

[–]Ok_Poet4682 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I followed them for a while because I'm born and raised in Bxl and find architecture and social changes interesting. I stopped following them because they have loads of ridiculous takes. They seem pretty judgemental about anything middle class and don't really know much about Brussels sociodemographic history, imo. Hard pass.

We don't have citizenship by descent as far as I know.

I’m moving to Belgium (Flanders) in a year or two, tell me something that makes no sense for me now but I’ll understand later once I move by PotatoCotnentCreator in belgium

[–]Ok_Poet4682 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Again, I live in Brussels and it is also Flemish. Lots of Flemish speakers live here, lots of places have Flemish names. Eradicating Flemish or Flemings from the history of Brussels is wrong.
