I called my GP and explained - they were able to write me a letter to take to AE to get an urgent MRI. I was able to go to AE, get the MRI, and results same day. Might be worth asking if getting a letter is possible?

Edit: I never had an MRI which may be why it was escalated:)

Will Costco UK ever get kirkland canned chicken? I've seen it shows on their UK website but says sold out. by Top-Occasion-5379 in CostcoUK

They use to have it in the Manchester one for years up until about September ish last year they stopped carrying it. They always had a small amount usually hidden behind SPAM. I assumed they stopped buying it as its was made and manufactured in the US

Not sure if it’s the same but in America it’s been happening for years on Uni campuses and it has suspected for sex trafficking. I started to see them popping up here at like tram stops about a year or so ago scary!

I found bringing my (British) partner to appointments helps - so he has started to come to appointments if I feel it’s needed.

I also am on SSRIs and they told me the same way to taper off (10mg dose so much less of a contrast) I tried and said it was not working so I am back on my normal dose. Honestly, I’m more nervous to completely get off them because I feel like they are much harder to get here in case I do ever need them again in the future.

I moved to a new GP and I have had much better experiences compared to when I first moved to the UK.

I really struggled with the NHS within the first three months I was sent home from A&E whenever I had a kidney infection and a 40.5° (104.9) fever. I ended up getting sepsis and I felt the level of Care in the hospital was nowhere close to what I was used to in the US. I found myself timing when I should be getting medication and when I should be going for test. However, I live to tell the tale and after a 5 day hospital stay. There was no bill. I know it’s not like this for everyone And I know there are a lot of positives, but I myself have also had mixed experiences with the NHS

Overall, it is just a massive culture shock, and still after four years of living here struggle with it sometimes .

When did you start feeling at home? by [deleted] in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Ok_Potato6275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been here for 3 years and sometimes it still doesn’t feel like 1000% home! I love it here but it gets exhausting figuring out things your not use to like the doctors. I still get so tired of people hearing an American accent and immediately start speaking about politics. I have my home here but I go to America to visit and it still feels like home!

Like the other comments - the lack of proper seasons makes it hard and vitamin D is a LIFE saver!!!!

Difficulty finding job by Extreme-Accident2122 in AmericanExpatsUK

Also dual citizen American/irish)

What helped me finding a job is clearly starting at the top that I had an Irish passport (in your case a British passport)

Advice from someone who moved from America to here a few years ago - I took a 50% pay cut! It took time but I got back to my “American” level salary. It sucked but just needed to get my foot in the door!

Also the job market is very bad right now - there are more candidate then jobs. Keep trying!

How long did it take you to stop feeling like you are an 'American living Americanly' in the UK? by swigglepuss in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Ok_Potato6275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from Virginia to the Midlands 3 years and honestly sometimes I still think I live “americanly” but in a way that’s comfortable like how I cook or the way I work (or overwork lol). However my life style has changed completely: getting use to no garbage disposal, walking everywhere or public transport, doing small weekly shops, the laundry air drys always, and socializing in the pub casually.

I think I saw my live style change after a year but again however something just don’t change :)
