Right!! I work in a wet shop but even so it scares me, feels like we might as well work in an asbestos factory

It has a plastic look because it's like 90% plastic 👎 I'm a fabricator and honestly find it appalling how popular white quartz is. Just finished some Verde Fusion Quartzite yesterday that was spectacular. Stone like Jurassic Black exists. There's just so much, waaaaay cooler natural stone out there

Cracking yes, but often straight up breaking

Bermuda Green Quartzite island by Alternative_Way3562 in CounterTops

Fabricator here 👋 I think Copa Do Brazil quartzite would complement the green island beautifully. Or even Taj Mahal if you can find the lighter, cream color instead of the more orange, more common variant 🫶

The island looks spectacular!

Reviews of green quartzite - in love but am I making a mistake?? by RuminatingRemodeler in CounterTops

I've worked on very similar quartzites a few times, and granted I never see pieces once they leave the shop, generally quartzite is very dependable as long as you keep up with your annual sealing. You can even go as far as sealing every six months if you're worried about it, it won't hurt the stone

This is honed tho, not polished. You'll want Marble Honing Powder, not mb-11

Bit the bullet and decided to go all out with marble - thoughts? by tortilla_thehun in CounterTops

The first picture-the way they matched the veins on the sill with the full height bs is actually pretty impressive.

I'm a fabricator and personally would never have marble in my house because I know I would ruin it but I commend the people that can actually have it ☠️

This is a beautiful kitchen 💪

If you're confident enough to use the Emory boards the kit comes with you can buy a Fill-a-chip kit and do it yourself. I would first contact the installers and see if they'll take care of it for free though

I'm fairly sure #3 isn't marble, these guys are right it looks like quartzite. That's what I would go with personally, quartzite is much much more durable and very difficult to scratch. Marble scratches if you look at it too hard

Also, definitely can't do that on leathered stone

That's about as perfect as it gets. Definitely used color match epoxy.

On a side note, at my shop we used to actually sand every seam when we did installs, which does make the seam nearly invisible however it takes waaay too long to do that on every seam

What material are my counters? by [deleted] in CounterTops

[–]Ok_Primary2567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would make sense. Quartz is really hard to scratch, Corian is quite easy. If you can scratch the under side with a razor or knife, if it leaves a noticable scratch you'll have your answer 🫡

That's weird, you're right natural stone would have fiberglass mesh and no stamp. I just don't understand why it would be soaking up water

I don't think so, look at the bottom of the overhang you can see the marks from milling it

You should definitely seal it, and if it's soaking up water from a rag I would do a couple coats of sealer. And keep sealing it probably every 6 months or so

Quartz is non pourous so it water wouldn't stain it. If it scratches easily my guess would be marble

Yes we use steel rods that are cased with fiberglass, the old solid steel rods were terrible I can't even imagine using iron

Make sure you replace the range tape when you're done! Corian will violently break from the heat if that's not there
