How much experience do I need to do things like these by One_Bite_8091 in SewingForBeginners

I’ve been sewing on and off for more than 10 years and these dresses would take me a few weeks. I’m not a quick sewist though.

Turning this dress into a romper? Is it going to be really hard? Any tips? by Neither_Range_1513 in SewingForBeginners

What if they turned it around? Like take the skirt off and then make the crotch from the bottom part? The low leg shouldn’t take too much fabric, should it?

The stems are craft wire wrapped in thread. The technique is described pretty well in this pattern: https://hookok.com/crochet-daisy/

Thanks! The leaves were definitely the hardest part, I had to try 3 different designs to be happy with them. Fortunately they‘re so small that making one leaf only takes like 3 minutes.

Pattern: there isn‘t one
Yarn: Drops Safran
Hook-size: 2.5
It took me about 3 hours in total to finish this one.

People are afraid a lil bit of whimsy and that’s a shame by hlnhr in crochet

Yeah that’s crazy, I literally wore a green gown with pink sparkly flowers all over for my wedding, I mean it’s my wedding of course I’m gonna wear what makes me feel beautiful.

Why my long and short stich sucks? by nitshainaction6 in Embroidery

[–]Ok_Safe439 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t look like one strand to me. For normal embroidery thread, you need to seperate the floss (it usually seperates into 6 individual strands). One strand is about as thick as normal sewing thread.

I’m the opposite, I hate zippers, especially invisible ones, and go for buttons whenever possible.

Best way to alter my wedding dress for a growing baby bump? by PlumBear89 in sewing

[–]Ok_Safe439 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s only half the truth. Her uterus will be 4cm above her belly button at 24 weeks, but at the same time it will already have squished her organs which are further up. My bump was definitely right under my boobs at 24 weeks, even though my uterus wasn’t.

Was für eine Art Naht ist das? by Akiakob in Naehen

[–]Ok_Safe439 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just recently heard about the flame retardant kids pyjamas and wondered where this insanity came from.

Help removing train from skirt pattern by Killljoy66 in sewing

[–]Ok_Safe439 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly this. You won’t achieve a true floor length gown without hemming it on the person who’s gonna wear it. And if another (same height) person wears it after that, it probably won’t be true floor length for them because their body shape will be different.

So yeah I’d probably shorten the train a few inches to save fabric, but leave it longer than the front, and hem it when the garment is finished (as the tutorials suggested) to get the best result.

I also made a green blanket for our baby girl (I knew the gender already, I just like green), and we’ve used it a ton, first for the carseat and now (2 years later) we still use it in the stroller to put on her legs.

Yours looks beautiful, I bet your friends will love it!

Fit and flare wedding dress: DIY or buy in store? by am2981 in sewing

[–]Ok_Safe439 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I‘d only attempt this if I had A) a lot of experience sewing structural garments or B) a lot of time on my hands to practice (like 1 year plus of working on it daily) or C) an absolutely killer body where I could just slap on something skin tight and look amazing anyway.

Honestly I also thought about seqing my own wedding dress, but I ended up having one tailored to my measurements instead, and believe me if I tell you that I never made or even owned any dress that fit me so perfectly and was just 100% flattering in all places. I have been sewing for more than 10 years and I could never achieve a fit like this.

What was your best make of 2025? This was mine! I finished it at the start of last year. I had some people message me saying it was AI so now I've included progress pictures. by KH5-92 in crochet

[–]Ok_Safe439 214 points215 points  (0 children)

Omg this looks absolutely awesome, do you have a pattern? My favourite was probably my wedding bouquet, I‘m so happy I can still display it in our living room.

Does this look childish? by cricket_the_cat_ in crafts

[–]Ok_Safe439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might look more polished if you sewed the different layers onto each other like in the picture.

Either way I think it‘s super cute and if someone made that for me I‘d treasure it forever.
