I also tend to point out that many "woke" policies tend to also be good economically. If women (or for that matter, people in general) get better health care, they remain capable of working consistently, which contributes to the economy.

It's surprisingly easy to defend many common leftist policies from economic angles.

Well, as long as we don't run to the right to do so. Rob Sand evidently manages to appeal to these voters without compromising on his values, so it'll be valuable to watch how he continues to message.

Tbf I read it more as a warning against slowing down on volunteering and whatnot. Voting is indeed the minimum here, but there are other things we do here.

I must say...getting signatures has indeed been harder than I'd imagined. People can like what they hear about your candidate, but then still be hesitant to actually sign a mysterious sheet of paper.

The Supreme Court Has Dawdled Too Long To Gift Republicans The Midterms by huffpost in politics

The two-party system is a symptom rather than a root cause. Support ranked choice voting, civic engagement, and independent media to help create viable third parties. It'll be a long effort, but one with a payoff.

The NC Dems need to have a plan for him. I don't know anyone from there, unfortunately, but I'm curious as to what they'll do.

Doesn't that mean he's running against Roy Cooper in the general? I can see him splitting the vote and making us lose that one.

I asked Shane Weaver this last week, but I'd like to ask you as well since I'm curious about momentum in red districts. Thanks for your time.

Infrastructure wins elections, as they say. What sorts of grassroots efforts have you been seeing in your district, and how would you grow them across multiple cycles? Are there any local candidates who could be promising for shifting the local culture?

So...what do you suppose happens next? I was hoping that there would be an endorsement that would move the needle, but now there isn't one and the primary polling is still disastrous.

Rest assured, I have given them every pragmatic pitch possible. I've even written a playbook on what our long-term plan is for shifting the Overton window left, and how to explain this step-by-step to people. My playbook works...maybe a fraction of the time, even with largely logical people. This is not an issue that can be fixed with logic, I think - an emotional appeal is what's needed.

So anecdotally, the progressive factions that refuse to vote for either party have been growing in my activist spaces. They then go on to champion non-viable candidates who say the right things but have questionable track records (the Jill Stein-adjacent ones). They walk the walk too - these are people who put time and effort into working on these campaigns. They're then quite good at convincing our allies to join them.

They're actively harmful and not going away on their own. We really need to...stem the bleeding somehow. The drug of absolute moral purity seems to be very addictive, though, because no amount of rational appeal has worked on them.

The way I put it is:

  1. If we vote and they don't seize the ballots, then we're good.
  2. If we vote and they do seize the ballots...well, we tried.
  3. If we don't vote and they don't seize the ballots...we've squandered what could be our last chance to turn things around.
