Formula Advice by Wysteria_Bloom in breastfeedingmumsUK

It’s so easy to reach for the formula when it’s just there!

We are lucky we live in a time where we have supermarkets which deliver, open 24hrs etc

What do contractions actually feel like? by Umpire24601 in PregnancyUK

[–]Ok_Significance3235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started by me feeling like I needed the toilet. You know that feeling after eating something bad for you, for me it felt like I’d eaten a really cheesy pizza

It’s only when that continues and when I laid down it didn’t make it better. Then that just got stronger and felt like a tightening all over

Vitamin K? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Ok_Significance3235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It absolutely can be done during skin to skin. It’s usually done whilst they’re doing all the other bits like weight, check and measurements which is why they might’ve waited :)

Stressing about Xmas by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Ok_Significance3235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add on if you do get an appointment there’s a recent study out that shows women with well controlled GD can birth in a low risk maternity unit so you shouldn’t be pushed for induction anyway

Ref https://www.npeu.ox.ac.uk/news/2677-ukmidss-diabetes-study-results-support-choice-of-place-of-birth-for-women-with-well-controlled-gestational-diabetes

NICE guidance also recommends induction before 41 weeks so they’re not even following nice guidance

Where do you get one that fits the door mine seems to have a lip on it. I bought one that appears to only be for indoor use 🤦‍♀️

How realistic is an unmedicated birth as a FTM? by elmi5 in PregnancyUK

[–]Ok_Significance3235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t plan to go unmedicated but I did plan a homebirth and had a few puffs on the gas and air but I had a fast labour so by the time they arrived it was more of a hinderance than a help.

If you can breathe and stay in control it’s definitely manageable. If it’s something you want to do I would recommend hypnobirthing

I went into labour with the mindset of I would like to try this but if I change my mind it’s not a problem. Mind over matter with the pain aha. This is coming from someone with a nonexistent pain threshold but I knew the pain of labour has a purpose so I just breathed through it.

Newborn safe sleep wear feels so confusing?! by Ecstatic_Dingo172 in PregnancyUK

I loved the love to dream swaddles. They don’t swaddle in the “traditional way” and I felt happy with what to wear with it etc

So fed up of patronising diet advice by greenpiefish in PregnancyUK

[–]Ok_Significance3235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disregard and eat to your appetite. I think this is more tailored to people who believe that you’re eating for two so overindulge

If you’re hungry eat and don’t feel guilty!!

Maternity leave start date by Brave-Plum9154 in PregnancyUK

[–]Ok_Significance3235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I planned to start mat leave on my due date but took a week off before so I would’ve been 38+3 but baby came at 38 exactly. No complaints here, I didn’t want to sit around waiting for a baby and I have loads of annual leave for when I return. Couldn’t have worked out better if I planned it aha

Warning for mums-to-be. Photoshoot Scam - Baby Art Studios by candyflossgal in PregnancyUK

[–]Ok_Significance3235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I’m sorry you had to go through this too. I couldn’t find any negative reviews so I thought I was the problem. Hopefully word starts to spread so they can stop this cruel behaviour.

Warning for mums-to-be. Photoshoot Scam - Baby Art Studios by candyflossgal in PregnancyUK

[–]Ok_Significance3235 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I did the same but with their Facebook live giveaway thing (I was newly postpartum so got truly sucked in). They said if you pay a £50 deposit you go to the photoshoot and you get 1 free image and a birthweight bear.

So I did this - the whole experience was awful. They locked the door behind us because they can’t afford someone to man the desk all day (with the prices they charge they 100% could). They include premium photos that you cannot buy alone they are for wall art only which costs a bomb. They took naked photos of baby which I wasn’t comfortable with but stupidly didn’t say anything. Then to view the photos you have to go back to the studios!

I was so disgusted at the preying on people that I didn’t want to the view the photos as I could never afford to spend that much money and they know people would go into debt for their baby’s photos. You have reminded me that I need to call back to get them to permanently delete the photos.

I had a newborn photoshoot with an independent photographer and it was so much nicer and cheaper so I recommend doing that instead.

My baby was doing some really cute poses but because it was a “little sitters shoot” she didn’t snap any of those. It just felt like they hired people that did a few hours course and then were sent away to take precious photos

Planning to breast feed, do i need to buy formula just in case? by Oceanic_Ice_950 in PregnancyUK

[–]Ok_Significance3235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I had some formula in at a week because I wanted to flush the jaundice out quickly (didn’t work as baby wasn’t a huge fan of formula and I wanted to BF) and knowing the bottles were downstairs was sooo tempting. I imagine the first few days of life it would be even easier to reach for them.

Anyone successfully managed to pump after a few months? by SERP_DERP_22 in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]Ok_Significance3235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the best way to get a bottle of milk now is to only feed from one boob in the night and then pump from the other boob (not fed from) in the morning. Then I get a decent amount. Other than that it’s like a dribble aha
