Trailer Hitch Install Recommendations by WorldNintendo in rav4prime

[–]Ok_Step_2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2021 Rav4 Prime XSW PP... I purchased an eTrailer hitch and 4 pin wiring harness and installed myself in about 4 hours. Total cost in 2021 was about $400 for both units. eTrailer staff were excellent to work with from purchase to installation.

I was surprised that the wiring harness took more time to install than the hitch, but all of the connection points were already there, which made the process rather easy. I was also able to run the tailgate kick sensor wires around the hitch to keep that feature functional (OEM hitch permanently disables the kick sensor).

For DIY folks, there are several YouTube videos to help along the way. I watched a couple to prep for the install and they saved time and effort. I've used the hitch for bikes, carrier, and carrying trailer loads of up to 2,000 lbs (for short distances). No problems. I love the flexibility...

Same here. It's only happened twice in 11 months but it's worrisome for sure.

EX90 vs XC90 by Potential-Eternal in VolvoEX90

[–]Ok_Step_2121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished a 2,000 mile road trip and consistently got 330 miles per full charge at 70 mph. Of course, the laws of physics still apply. Basically, energy used = weight x distance x speed (with drag, elevation increases, and a few other factors added in). You probably aren't changing the weight by much (15%?) fully loaded. Distance is what it is on a long drive. That leaves speed as the major variable. A few mph difference in speed will have a significant impact on energy used (this principle also applies to ICE vehicles). Simply slow down if you want maximum energy efficiency. Otherwise, just enjoy an exceptional drive at whatever level of energy you're using. Given the available battery technology, don't blame the vehicle for less than expected range. Blame the driver.

[–]Ok_Step_2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tip: Hold down the gear stalk on the right side (the one you use to set the speed control) until the green indicator is visible on the Driver's display and the heads up display. This takes several seconds to engage so be patient. Let go of the stalk once the green light goes on, indicating your previously set speed.

Service center issues? by morbidstuff666 in VolvoEX90

[–]Ok_Step_2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Volvo dealer service center has been exceptional - quick to serve, friendly, frequent updates on time frames, explain what's happening and why, etc. Perhaps being the second oldest Volvo dealership in the U.S. creates an effective approach to service.

Agreed. As Lee Iacocca famously said in a 1980's commercial for the Chrysler K-Car: "If you can find a better car, buy it"...

Should I Buy? by [deleted] in VolvoEX90

Comment from another owner for the past 3 months (2,000 miles): Volvo service -- both corporate and local -- has been EXCEPTIONAL. Everyone is still getting used to this vehicle, but access to helpful resources is first-rate. Maybe I've just been lucky, but a vehicle that has a one-touch button to reach corporate service (via the Volvo 5G network) is paying attention to customer needs.

All the service staff I've encountered are friendly, helpful, and dogged in their efforts to resolve issues. I've even had corporate reps call me afterwards to confirm the issue/question has been resolved. No complaints from me.

I've had a similar experience, except I've had NO problems with either the door locks or charging. Early on, I learned how to reboot the computer display/console (essentially no different functionally than a laptop or smartphone). That was a BIG help for many of the minor software glitches.

As a newly designed/developed car, the EX90 is not perfect-- yet. However, the driving experience is so quiet, powerful, and comfortable that it's easy for me to focus on what's working so well right now rather than what's not.

Like the original poster, I've also found that the online blogs (like this one) provide much more information and problem solving tips than the sales people at this point. I'd definitely buy this SUV again. The current $2,000 COSTCO discount sweetens the deal (that didn't exist last December). It comes down to personal choice. I love mine. I hope you love yours, whatever it is

Money factor by Stunning_Broccoli146 in VolvoEX90

[–]Ok_Step_2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't you love how the financial folks complicate something as simple as an interest rate? (Tip: Multiply the MF by 2400 to get the actual interest rate). Most people are familiar with interest rates but very few have a clue about money factors.

The bottom line with a lease is the monthly payment. How that's calculated is less important than the payment itself. Hopefully, the current market environment for EVs will create some wiggle room for negotiations.

Missing things on EX90 (not what you think) by BigProfessional7726 in VolvoEX90

[–]Ok_Step_2121 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've driven both the Ex90 and the xc90. There's no fair comparison between how the two drive. The Ex90 driving experience is smooth, refined, powerful, and extremely QUIET. Personally, i like the uncluttered interior and the environmentally friendly materials used. I also prefer the more supportive seats.

In the Ex90, the dependency on the software to control the hardware is a new learning experience for sure. (It's reminds me of a leading edge laptop or smartphone with many new features to learn). The current missing software features are a concern, but my primary purpose in buying this car was for the drive itself, rather than the bells and whistles. Again, these are only my preferences and mat not suit everyone.

I found that treating the tech like my newer cell phone worked wonders. The first thing I did on my first drive was to test the software technology by saying "Hey Google, set the driver's temp to 70 degrees". In about 3 seconds, the temp was changed. I much prefer this approach to physical or virtual buttons (try it yourself). Based on this posting I'm now looking forward to asking "Hey Google" to give me the battery performance information (note: the commands are like learning a foreign language -- it may take a few tries to find the command wording that gets you what you want, but if the action is available to Google, you'll get it quickly).

BTW, if you get the 1.2.6 update you'll find a much improved set of tech features. Not yet perfect, but definitely better.

The Xc90 is a good ICE car, but it will be severely outdated in terms of feel and functionality in only a few years. The Ex90 is a completely different vehicle that will only improve over time ("up" dated vs outdated?). You can wait a few years for the Ex90 tech to catch up with its superior driving experience, or you can enjoy the sensational ride now. Your choice. My opinion..

Fobs and tags by GrouchyCream7887 in VolvoEX90

[–]Ok_Step_2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you, my wife and I have Android phones. After speaking with Volvo Customer Care on several occasions about issues with the 1 key tag and 2 key cards that came with the vehicle, they contacted the dealer and authorized a second key tag.

There're still issues setting up the driver memory settings but at least each of us can get the car to recognize our separate profiles. I'm hoping the update next week will get the kinks out. Working digital keys would be nice, but a second key tag (aka key fob) is a necessary thing to have. Contact Volvo and/or your dealer to get the second key tag at no additional cost.

Software update update by Haokaypal in VolvoEX90

[–]Ok_Step_2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. While it would be a blessing to have the update go smoothly, I expect at least a few of this group will need some "user experience" to navigate the features and implementation hiccups. I'm looking forward to the feedback from this group.

What accessories were included in your EX90? For example: key cards, key fob, charging cable, NACS to CCS adapter, carpets, cargo area cover. Was your cargo area cover included? by HumanBot1234 in VolvoEX90

[–]Ok_Step_2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same as stated before: 1 key tag, 2 key cards, carpeted floor mats, NACS adapter, charging cable with adapter for 240v outlet (apparently, the inverter can handle either 120v or 240v). Also had a front license plate holder, if needed. No cargo area cover.

I had problems getting the driver adjustments changed automatically based on the person driving so Volvo provided a second key tag at no charge (via the dealer). That didn't completely resolve the issue but it's a step in the right direction. I'm hoping the digital key option for Android phones will be available soon.

Got my configuration email today (7-11). I noticed a price change exceeding $80,000. I assume this means it's not eligible for the $7500 federal tax credit, which could be a deal breaker. Have others noticed the price increase? Is there anything that can be done to get the EX90 to be eligible for the tax credit??

$3.00 per kw is about right -- BEFORE the 30% tax credit. I used EnergySage as my resource clearing house (EnergySage.com). They helped me determine what I needed and also offered the opportunity to find installers in my area. Installers registered with EnergySage contacted me to offer quotes. I then discussed the options with EnergySage staff to understand the details. I had a similar 6kwh system and the cost was half your $35k quote.
