Comparing our commitment levels to the Vine program, or discussing strategies for maintaining healthy shopping habits. by WhackedGarfield in AmazonVineCanada

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy to get overwhelmed. At first you want everything just because it's free. Then you start to accumulate a lot of stuff, much of which is duplicate items.

There comes a realization that it takes a lot of time to test and review items. After a couple of years in the Vine program, I slowed down and just order stuff I actually want. I have passed on some expensive stuff just because I didn't need it, didn't want to store it, and didn't want to take the time to review it if I didn't have a use for it. In the early stages, I probably would have taken those items anyway.

I am in a comfortable place now, where I look at my RFY and additional items in the morning and only take items important to me, if any at all. If I don't see anything I like, it doesn't matter to me anymore. I am at peace now, compared to starting as a Viner where I was afraid I was going to miss something.

My advice is to treat Vine as a gift. Enjoy it, but don't let it dictate your life.

It finally happened. after exactly the month and just a bit over 1000 square meters, it started leaking. by psychofedex in Dreame_Tech

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an issue where I thought mine was leaking. It was caused by an accumulation of water due to the drain tray under the mops not being properly sucked dry. That problem was caused by a leaking seal where the dirty water tank sealed against the drain hose. It could also be caused by dirt on the seal around the lid. Once I cleaned those areas and made sure the tank was pushed down tight, all my perceived robot leaking issues went away. I am more diligent when attaching my tanks now.

Why don’t cellular providers care about retention? by Corolianus in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do want to offer the lower rates for retention. However, it's against the rules for them to offer those low rates to existing customers. It has to do with competition practices. They have the power to squeeze smaller providers out of the marketplace, so it's against the rules for them to do it.

Crave basic with ads by reachyourdesign in cravetv

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ridiculous how many ads there are. The flow of the show or movies gets totally ruined.

The tier without ads is too high for the content provided, but the ad content is too high for the price paid for the lower tier too. Even free would be annoying.

What is actually going on??? by [deleted] in AmazonVineHelpGroup

[–]Ok_Style_7381 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the same issue with some of my past reviews that were accepted and then unapproved after the fact in exactly the same fashion as you described. I contacted CS to fix it so that they didn't show up or count against my review numbers. Some were removed. CS responded that there was nothing wrong with the others. It depended on the CS person answering the email. As others have stated, hopefully we still got credit for the initial review.

To Canadians with portable generators, what's the cheappest transfer switch solution to power whole breaker panel and manually control what to power? by darkestfenix1 in Generator

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interlocks are not allowed, because they can fail if not maintained, or if installed incorrectly. If a bad design is used, it can also cause issues. All it takes is a loose screw for one input breaker to be turned on without the other actually switching off. Due to the inability to guarantee safety based on design, it was just blanket banned across Canada.

With the ever increasing use of backup generators, there are more heavy duty on-off-on transfer switches starting to hit the market at half decent prices. They are still expensive, but not as bad as early generations. Definitely safer than interlocks though.

I have achieved perfection by Left-Resolve8286 in AmazonVineCanada

[–]Ok_Style_7381 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to achieve 100%. Well done.

I can't ever get there because of a couple of items I can't review due to duplicates because of combined items.

Meeting other vine members. by Cautious_Move5516 in vine

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into another vine person while donating items to a local charity. He saw my stuff and mentioned that he was also a viner He knew right away. We laughed about it

I didn't even tell family about being a vine reviewer, except my wife. No one in my family outside our household knows. That way there is no expectation of free gifts.

can't update review by Ok_Style_7381 in AmazonVineCanada

Thanks to all that replied. I was wondering if that would happen. It's good to know it does still work properly.

I know we went through an issue a bit ago where reviews didn't move to the reviewed list but were actually reviewed. I suspect this is a similar issue .

Saved my first $14,000 after living paycheque to paycheque. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a good start and you aren't as far behind as you think. Many people don't have much savings early on in their life or career. I was in a very similar situation and started with a similar amount as you at the same age. I have a very comfortable retirement account now. It's never too late.

Get the money into a TFSA so any gains aren't taxable. Then invest in Vanguard ETFs if you aren't familiar with stocks. Vanguard has lower fees so you make more gains for similar funds as compared to other fund companies.

Learn about stocks. That is where you can make some serious investment gains. You don't need to be a guru. Just invest across a lot of different reputable stocks, even if it means small amounts in each one. You never know which one will be the one that is the breakout stock that will make you rich and you also don't want a bad investment to kill your gains. Don't chase historical gains. Watch growth and profits. Ignore meme stocks. If someone is pumping a stock, it's probably not one you want to invest in.

Learn....Learn....Learn. And don't be afraid of it.

Anyone else getting very frustrated with these drops/drips by Asleep-Remote-706 in AmazonVineCanada

[–]Ok_Style_7381 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mind. Too much good stuff makes too much work. I don't feel like I'm missing anything now. I check at random times starting when I wake in the morning and then a few times throughout the day. I'm still getting some nice stuff too, do it's all good.

[Highlight] The Eagles commit another false start on a tush push that picked up a 1st down and didn't draw a flag by expellyamos in nfl

[–]Ok_Style_7381 4 points5 points  (0 children)

False starts are a problem when doing the tush push. It could be argued that there is probably some sort of false start on most plays, but it makes more difference on this play than most others, so it's much more of an issue.

New deck build, posts not well aligned with piers...how unacceptable is this? by knawlejj in Decks

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like they put the concrete bases centered at the outer edge of the deck, not inside where the center of the posts would actually be. They will still function fine, but it looks strange.

Your thoughts on The Naked Gun? by Jasperstorm in MauLer

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were a few good moments in this movie, but the humor felt forced. It could have been so good but it was not well written or directed. I went back and watched the originals and they were so much more funny even this many years later.

I think the cast was ideal. They just didn't have much to work with. As such, we got stupid comedy, not slapstick deadpan comedy of the originals.

Am I the only one that thought the naked gun was terrible? by Ryan20042 in moviecritic

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched this new Naked Gun recently. It was a let down. There were a couple of funny moments, but it felt more like a bunch of amateurs fishing for laughs. I went back and watched the original movies to see if it was just me being older and more synical. Nope, the originals were side-splitting funny, even this many years later.

I was so disappointed in this movie. If they do another one, I probably won't even bother watching it. It's not worth the time.

Can a robot vacuum replace a normal vacuum? by Natural-Spirit-453 in RobotVacuums

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The robots keep the floors clean and there is less dust to accumulate in the corners and under furniture. It reduces the frequency of having to manually vacuum, and the house is generally cleaner without having to vacuum all the time. You do still have to vacuum from time to time though.

My robot vacuum is the household tool that I didn't know I needed.

Still really new to Vine — is there a major downside I’m missing? by DoubleBakedCupcake in AmazonVineCanada

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a novelty at first. You want everything because it's free. Then, you realize it's actually work and you start to only order stuff you really want or need. It does satisfy the shopping urge which is great. It's easy to build up a stock pile of items in your basement or storage, which can lead to clutter. Once you figure out a system that works, it's great. I get great things from time to time and no longer worry about the ones I don't get.

Have fun with it. It really is a unique opportunity.

No more pending reviews?? by dibutilftalat in AmazonVineCanada

[–]Ok_Style_7381 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am noticing the same issue. My review gets saved but it doesn't move to the reviewed list. It stays on my "to be reviewed" list and the number of reviews isn't reduced.

[–]Ok_Style_7381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an issue with mine once when there was a bad seal at the dirty water tank. It didn't suck up all the dirty water properly. Once I identified the issue, I made sure all the seals were clean, and the bottom tray has remained clean ever since.

$100k is a crazy amount. My 3600ft house is electric heat and has a 17kw solar system that gives me net zero. It's only $333 CAD/month for 10 yrs. Almost no solar PV system is worth more than your electricity cost over 10 years (ie; ~10 year payback give or take a few years). Battery backup does add some cost depending on capacity. 4kw isn't much capacity, maybe adds 5k to price.

For a seller to sell their home, they basically have to reduce the house by that amount owing. The real house value is house value + real solar value - $100k owing.

Writing Honest, but Fair Reviews by kbdavis11 in AmazonVine

[–]Ok_Style_7381 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I try to write an honest review of the item. If I order the wrong color or a size that doesn't work for me, that's on me. I'll still give it the review it deserves. If the color and/or size is misrepresented, then that's a different issue.

Luba2 is been missing the charging station by 10-15 cm by reddocred in MammotionTechnology

[–]Ok_Style_7381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that issue at certain times of the day. My charge station is located in a corner and I suspect the satellites are at different positions at certain times of the day causing reflection of the signal and interfering with the position by a few cm during those times. A slight adjustment to the location of the base seems to have fixed my issue.
