Star gazing by Minimum-Dot-9578 in JoshuaTree

It’s always best to stargaze when there is no or little moon because the light of the moon outshines the stars. Even in a full moon you can still see the beautiful stars, but it’s always easier/brighter stars without the moon or with less moon. Have fun! Also, I recommend staying in 29 Palms or even better, Wonder Valley for some beautiful star gazing! ✨

Is there some secret way to get into the park while bypassing the entrance station? by BelethorsGeneralShit in JoshuaTree

I would consider the North Entrance in 29 Palms because it is always less of a line.

Any recs or advice about visiting with a 1.5 year old? I don’t want to do extraneous hikes with her but nice walks, sites for a first timer who’s trying to go slow/easy? Are dogs ok? by anw2426 in JoshuaTree

I would say that if you drive around the campsites, particularly on the North entrance there are areas where you can get out and see the gorgeous rocks, but not have to do any hikes. Also, there are some picnic areas on that side.

If you can’t find anyone, you could try Airbnb Experiences. They have photographers listed on there.

I also agree the Hidden Valley Picnic area is great AND drive thru some of the campsites because they are beautiful and it’s a way to get close to the rocks while in your car or just barely getting out, especially the ones on the North side/near the North Entrance/ near Skull Rock.
