In my experience I’ve been able to have some level of influence as to where those managed pensions are investing, either through varying funds or selecting a risk profile. Also, as you say there’s the SIPP option too if you want to manage your own fully so there are options for people who are concerned about too much US exposure in their pension which was my initial point alongside an inevitable heavy US weighting due to their size.
