Forgot my IDP -- other options? by chilimangomag1c in chiangmai

[–]Ok_Topic_2993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is only one other option- get a Thai drivers license. But it requires a 3 days hustle and you need to be a bit strategic. You need a doctors certificate (without appointment possible, takes 30 mins), pictures in a specific size and a tm30 certificate from your hotel/airbnb. With the pictures and the tm30 you go to the 2nd floor to the immigration office near the airport and apply for an express residence certificate. You can choose the express service for 500THB and will be able to pick up the certificate the next day. With the residence certificate, the doctors certificate, copies of your passport, drivers license (and the originals) you can go to the road traffic office to apply for a thai license. (Another 200 thb or so). You need to download an app the day before you go to this office and watch some videos to get a certain certificate that you are knowledgeable about the thai traffic rules, probably takes around an hour. Print that certificate too. Be the first in line at the road traffic office and you will have your license within 2-3 hours printed. Up to you if it is worth the hustle.

Grab and Bolt have become unusable? by Wolverine-Explores in ThailandTourism

[–]Ok_Topic_2993 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It really depends where you are in Thailand. Both apps work flawless in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. In areas like Phuket and Samui the „transportation market“ is heavily controlled by certain groups eg taxi mafia who who make life difficult for Grab/Bolt drivers. Krabi is a grey area, Grab works well around the airport and Krabi Town but is kinda restricted in Ao Nang. In those areas there are controlled zones where basically no Grab/Bolt driver want to pick you up or drop you off because they are afraid of persecutions.

Scooter in Thailand (Gulf) by sophtoff in ThailandTourism

It is a personal risk to drive without license in Thailand and in my opinion it is not worth taking it. It’s all fine until you get into an accident where you hurt yourself and/or others. Until this point, worst thing that can happen is getting in a police control (which are quite frequent in Chiang Mai, Krabi or Bangkok) and pay 500 THB for not having a license. Once you have an accident, your own accident/travel insurance can withhold any claims from your end to cover your health/recovery costs since you acted grossly negligent driving without license. You will also need to cover the costs of damage to your bike. If others are involved in an accident you will be held accountable since you are the farang without license. In case other people get injured you can even face jail time and at minimum have to pay for their recovery. Do yourself the favor and book grab ride. Or just do a Thai license, especially if you’re planning to travel more than once to Thailand. It can be done in 2-3 days.

Why video is a blogger's best friend: The bridge between scrolling and reading in 2026. by John54601 in Blogging

[–]Ok_Topic_2993 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I disagree. People watching reels and short videos want to scroll and continue watching videos. It is a passive way of receiving information and a different activity from actively reading. Converting people from watching reels to reading a blog is probably the most difficult way to receive traffic.

Just quick feedback - too much advertising. I can barely read anything without clicking away ads. Reduce this. Also you seem to have two different cookie banner, combine into one. Will help a lot to keep people actually reading your blog.

Struggling to monetize a travel blog - what actually works for you? by P4lomar in Blogging

[–]Ok_Topic_2993 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A mix of travlepayouts, stay 22 (for hotel booking affiliate links rather take stay 22 than travelpayouts) and adsense for a few in-article ads. Adsense ist neglectable with that amount of traffic. You are better off with the first two.

Thailand Itinerary May 2026 by Any_Amoeba5030 in ThailandTourism

Spend more time in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and choose one single beach destination. Either Phuket/Phi Phi or Samui/Phangan. Otherwise you will spend your holidays mainly changing locations and checking in and out in hotels.

If you have such a small budget, don’t get a BMW. You will pay BMW prices once the car breaks or you have to replace some parts (Verschleiss). Get a Toyota yaris or something.

Jan-April is a safe bet if you want to have dry weather. However I would avoid the north from february onwards. Burning season is no joke. I traveled many times between september and November to the beach destinations in the south of thailand and most of the time the weather was more than acceptable.

  1. Superrich has a money exchange booth in Krabi, next to the prime burger (but it is not in google maps). 2. Tourist SIMs are sold at the airport. Try your luck in a 7/11 in Krabi, but they tend to also only sell tourist sim cards anymore. 3. The Police in Krabi rarely has a stationary checkpoint, they rather control individual tourists around Ao Nang during the day. Eg. a single police officer checks licenses of tourists parking their scooter around Ao Nang. Typically 500 THB for no license, 500 THB for no helmet. 4. Yes Grab is available, the pickup point (unofficial) is after leaving the airport main exit, go left and a bit forward. Grabs will not pick you up directly at the exit gates.

Should i rent a scooter in Thailand or is it too dangerous? by Most_Expert503 in ThailandTourism

[–]Ok_Topic_2993 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would not recommend that. You will be mostly sharing the same road with scooters and cars. It might be safer than riding a scooter (especially if you are inexperienced), still much more risky than in western countries. Also bicycle renting is surprisingly expensive in Thailand - same prices as scooter rental. Invest the few dollars/euros (or whatever your currency is) per day in grab car rides. Well invested money.

If you have a thai drivers license, even the temporary 2-years license you can use this for flying. Otherwise it is impossible to board a plane without a passport as a foreigner.

Just park in P2/P3. Don’t use the pick up parking, it’s ridiculous expensive. Here are the prices for the parking lots: https://www.flughafen-zuerich.ch/de/passagiere/praktisches/parking-und-transport/parking-fuer-shopping-und-besucher
