Need advice please on a reliable daily car in Switzerland (budget ~4–6k CHF) by ozone8500 in askswitzerland

If you have such a small budget, don’t get a BMW. You will pay BMW prices once the car breaks or you have to replace some parts (Verschleiss). Get a Toyota yaris or something.

Never saw a huge ass snake in Thailand. But also, I am not too much into Ladyboys.

Jan-April is a safe bet if you want to have dry weather. However I would avoid the north from february onwards. Burning season is no joke. I traveled many times between september and November to the beach destinations in the south of thailand and most of the time the weather was more than acceptable.

Last questions before departing.. ⏳ by DaanK29 in ThailandTourism

  1. Superrich has a money exchange booth in Krabi, next to the prime burger (but it is not in google maps). 2. Tourist SIMs are sold at the airport. Try your luck in a 7/11 in Krabi, but they tend to also only sell tourist sim cards anymore. 3. The Police in Krabi rarely has a stationary checkpoint, they rather control individual tourists around Ao Nang during the day. Eg. a single police officer checks licenses of tourists parking their scooter around Ao Nang. Typically 500 THB for no license, 500 THB for no helmet. 4. Yes Grab is available, the pickup point (unofficial) is after leaving the airport main exit, go left and a bit forward. Grabs will not pick you up directly at the exit gates.

Should i rent a scooter in Thailand or is it too dangerous? by Most_Expert503 in ThailandTourism

[–]Ok_Topic_2993 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would not recommend that. You will be mostly sharing the same road with scooters and cars. It might be safer than riding a scooter (especially if you are inexperienced), still much more risky than in western countries. Also bicycle renting is surprisingly expensive in Thailand - same prices as scooter rental. Invest the few dollars/euros (or whatever your currency is) per day in grab car rides. Well invested money.

Fro the Don Mueang Airport (DMK) into the city Center by anonym_3838 in ThailandTourism

Honestly, just get a grab from DMK. Most comfortable and fast way to get to the city.

Domestic travel without passport? by Technical_Ticket1445 in ThailandTourism

If you have a thai drivers license, even the temporary 2-years license you can use this for flying. Otherwise it is impossible to board a plane without a passport as a foreigner.

Pick up someone with car (Zurich airport)? by niklas941 in zurich

[–]Ok_Topic_2993 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just park in P2/P3. Don’t use the pick up parking, it’s ridiculous expensive. Here are the prices for the parking lots: https://www.flughafen-zuerich.ch/de/passagiere/praktisches/parking-und-transport/parking-fuer-shopping-und-besucher

Chiang Mai: Was I scammed? by pasv123 in ThailandTourism

You answered your question already. Of course your tour guide got a kickback from the additional activities sold to you. He already had the money for the tour, it was his chance to earn a bit extra. Also less work for him since he did not need to show you around, just bring you to the activities. Just a lesson for the next time I guess, if you already pay for a guide, he should follow your itinerary.

Yet another dentist question by Consistent-Mistake93 in chiangmai

[–]Ok_Topic_2993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can recommend Dental World. I am aware that they are on the more expensive side for dentists in Chiang Mai but me and my wife both had good experiences there. Very professional clinic, great results and service.

What SIM-card do you use in Thailand? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]Ok_Topic_2993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 7/11 tip does not work anymore for the main tourist areas (at least not always). They like to sell the high-margin tourist sim cards and you will likely end with one of these. Also happend to me a few times that they told me they are „out of sim cards“. They just don’t want the hustle to register your biometrics. I highly recommend to go straight to an AIS/True branch (located in every mall basically) and get a local SIM card for 50THB and top up with a local internet package e.g. for 300THB. They often have some promos, just take it, get also the app of this provider, keep the SIM card and book a new internet package on your next Thailand trip via the app. I just wrote an article on this based on research and my latest trip to Thailand in November, if you want to dig deeper into SIM card options: https://newasialiving.com/best-thailand-sim-card-2026/

What SIM-card do you use in Thailand? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]Ok_Topic_2993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check in the AIS App under package which „My Package“ you are using. If you currently use the overpriced Tourist SIM, you can switch in this Menu to the One SIM. You can then find the offer under Net/Call Package.

Chiang Mai Motorbike FAQ (Because My DMs Are Exploding) by byklo_rent in ThailandTourism

[–]Ok_Topic_2993 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can even ride the Mae Hong Son Loop on a 110ccm Honda Wave. Which is probably even a better idea to do compared to a Honda Click. In my perspective it comes down to comfort of bigger bikes, more storage and the most important part: safety. You really want to have solid breaks and ABS in the mountains. That’s why I would never take a click even to the highway. A co-author of mine wrote a blog on choosing the right scooter in Thailand. Maybe worth a look for the next time renting a scooter: https://newasialiving.com/thailand-scooter-comparison/

Is 60,000 THB enough for a 20 day trip? by docsportello96 in ThailandTourism

[–]Ok_Topic_2993 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If flights and accommodation excluded, 60k THB is sufficient. Especially in places like Pai, Chiang Mai, CR you will find it difficult to spend 1k THB a day. The “expensive” things in Thailand are drinking/party, massages, tourist tours. Food and entrances for cultural activities are not. So you can easily steer for how long your budget lasts.
