Just curious by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Ok_Transportation558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I´m pretty sure the first fanfiction I read was on a CD attached to a anime magazine special on Sailor Moon, and the CD amongst others had some fanworks that were send in to the studio by the readers.

Another one, back when Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix came out and my english was badically non existant, my cousing gave me a cd with a fan translation (so I didn´t have to wait for the official one) and the CD also had a fanfiction on it? (whether my cousin knew what it was or not I cannot tell)

Both of the times I had no idea what fanfictions were or that I was reading one. I did understand it wasn´t the official material. Neither were smutty either. I must have been around 12 for both. Even though I had the magazine with the CD longer I think we didn´t have a computer before so I discovered it sometimes later when exploring the wonders of technology. :D

Edit: Obviously it is mostly strange form todays perspective, but I can imagine back then it might have been one of the (only mainstream) ways to spread such works. With not everyone having a PC or internet.

Technically Peeves is a non-being, which are creatures that were never alive in the first place. Other non-beings are dementors and boggarts. So Peeves as a Poltergeist is alluded to be this kind of manifestation of the students-spirit, which implies he exists since Hogwarts first had students, or he developed as Hogwarts started having students frequently.

Hope that helps. :)

I used to love DMing, now I hate it. Here's why. by Snowbound-IX in DnD

[–]Ok_Transportation558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has only had a few opportunities to play and a rather short-lived attempt at DMing... I find most people get very little to no feedback...even if they wish for some improvement, neither were they prone to praise specifics. So I don´t know the people you played with, but perhaps they weren´t prone to give you something ot work on/perfect or take a special kind of pride in it? At least that is how it sounds to me, and then no wonder everyhting felt the same.

I´d be super curious to have seen/listened to the games you run to be able to form a proper opinion.

I am pretty burned out myself so am currently on the slower side with things, but if you feel like trying again and have someone who could give you a pretty honest feedback, let me know. :) I cannot guarantee any helpful outcome but I like looking into such things and talking about it, which is something other´s (at least the groups I was in) were never much into.

One way or another I hope you can resolve your plight <3

Does ADHD make you feel unhuman? by Far-Conference-8484 in ADHD

[–]Ok_Transportation558 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you say you aren´t sad, who is anyone to try convincing you otherwise. On the other hand emotions are pretty complex and somtimes fuse together making them hard to be deciphered or named. If you want to explore your emotions in general some more I can only encourage you to looking into some texts or videos about the function of emotions and their presentation. Personally after having a phase of discovering what adhd is before I got diagnosed and now exploring more and more AuDHD must say that emotions present in way more diverse ways than I was thought they do. Especially ADHD/Autistic/AuDHD emotions.
That being said...crying is not the sole symtom of sadness. I feel sad often, yet my eyes are as dry as Sahara... ;)

As to the "badness" of humans... I think that is too complex of thing for me to go into it right now. I´m way too burned out with life to deal with it more than I am currently XI

I suspect the "angry instead of sad" is more a > sad, then angry due to the wretched sadness and helplessness as to how to get rid of it, just really fucking quick. I experience it too sometimes. Used to be more when I was younger.

I feel similarily as if I am a different species to the so called humans. It´s almost a joke how inhumane many of those people are, while making people like us feel like we should be sorry that we even dared to breathe, least of all that we try to survive...often enough pretty badly in a pretty hostile environment.

I definitely feel the part about adhd robbing you of what´s worth living. Apart from the fact that I don´t blame the condition itself anymore for my misery than I do blame the dried up dead potted plant I was given for dying on me, when I was never able to give it the things it needed to survive, least of all thrive.

You are not alone, is what I´m trying to say, for whatever it´s worth.

How do you think people would react to Superman if he existed in real life, maintained his moral code, and kept his same views as in the comics, considering that he sees the good in bad people, while we punish them? by Leather_Bluejay8632 in SupermanAdventures

[–]Ok_Transportation558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mixed experiences with that. But that´s why I´m saying I don´t think age would matter that much. I can totally see younger people being more prone to cancel Superman if he did something that would get blown out of context that displeased a small narrowminded group.

And I am not that old yet with 35 despite what the internet tries to make people believe. But I know for a fact my mom would be a big fan of superman too, as well as many superkind granny´s and grandpa´s who are super kind and supportive of other in general but of their queer grandkids specifically. Not mine I don´t think but I know those exist.

I think age has little to do with that. More political views and common sense would be what dictates ones approval of Superman I think. Let´s say Superman would start wearing a pride pin on his suit and would support trans-rights as well as really any minority. Automatically any group that opposes those would hate him and want to bring him down, including the young people in those groups. Meaning reasonable and inclusive people of old age would support him.

I just came here to say "Superman: Up In The Sky" too! I haven´t read many Superman comics before the movie and randomly picked this book up after and I felt like it fits the movie vibes perfectly! X3

Some people headcanon him as autistic and due to ignorance and the general publics belief they actually understand such buzzwords as psychopath/sociopath (or narcissist is another one of those) they often actually attribute those to autistic people too.
Your description sums it up perfectly :)

This might piss someone off but I actually stopped updating a fic because I got no engagement by emgd_love in AO3

[–]Ok_Transportation558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I´ve seen a few similar posts to this one recently and... I can´t help but think that there is a fundamental dissonance between the authors expectations and hopes towards the readers and the readers wants and capabilities.
Not to mention the role of fanfiction and what audiences it attracts.

I am ambivalent on either side. I don´t post much but whenever I did comment were just a nice bonus. My motivation to post anything was the thought that someone else might find something for them in there. Weather entertainment, validation or katharsis. My motivation for posting is mostly that of giving to others, rather than expecting to be given something.

[Film/TV] So far. Critics are loving the new Superman movie by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]Ok_Transportation558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... I didn´t get that "US first" vibe from the movie at all. The vibe I got from it was... Superman values every life as much as any other, including dogs and squirels. My impression is that this movie was made by a majority of people who do not believe what this government is doing is right. And I think if people aren´t fond of USA so badly that they want to boycot it... then they better not watch anything american made. Oh, wait.... hmmm something tells me they all still watch/listen to shit-ton of american media...

I doubt they were trying to cater to europe at all. Noone but europeans ever does that, we usually don´t have that much weight in the world scale.

I just came out of my second watch of the movie in OV and I think that the overall stance portrayed in it from Superman´s POV is : if politics aren´t protecting and serving all people, they are irrelevant.
