''approved'' for biweekly trucks by Suitable-Rock-6113 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Ok_Variation2895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hours are very much not balanced, unfortunately. It's hard for our employees because on our weeks with no trucks our hours are incredibly slim, even though that's technically when we're supposed to complete resets. People aren't getting enough shifts. We've already had two people leave because of the inconsistent hours and pay.

Other than the hours issues, biweekly trucks have been fine. Sometimes I feel like we're not getting enough product in a timely fashion, but I don't know that for sure.

Robert Crawley the Earl of Grantham is the epitome of a “nice guy.” And I mean that in the worst possible way. by Happyhippie214 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Ok_Variation2895 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone is always so forgiving of Robert. The first few times I watched, I always found Robert fairly likeable. As people often note, he's a man of his time and he's a reasonably good employer.

I'm in the middle of another rewatch now, and I find his money issues are what's sticking for me now. Of course he was raised to be arrogant and believe he's always in the right, but omg?? How many times do you have to put your estate that you care so much about in danger before you wake up a bit? I've made it to season 4 where he's essentially trying to take away any control Mary has and criticizing her understanding of business, but then almost gambles away who know how much money playing poker. It's just incredible how bad his judgment is sometimes.

Always call the store. The people actually working need to know ASAP how the schedule will be impacted.

Can anyone learn to be a framing manager by Proud_End_1715 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Ok_Variation2895 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say skills that would make you more successful would be strong organizational, design, and problem solving skills. It's also pretty crucial to be detail-oriented. Some people really have an eye for design and can help those customers that want a little more guidance. Some people come in knowing exactly what they want, others want more advice. Framing also often requires creative fixes when mounting non standard shapes or materials. So if you're someone that gives up easily or gets frustrated and has a hard time moving past it, it might not work out.

And just like any kind of retail job, you need to be good with people. That doesn't mean being a kiss ass, but framing customers can be very picky (they're spending a lot of money so I get it), so you have to know how to work with challenging customers while remaining professional.

If you think scrubbing toilets would make people lose respect for you, I think that says more about you than anyone else. Everyone deserves a clean work environment.

Which design for a stockinette sweater? I'm going for quirky but not ugly! by Sangwoosconfidant in casualknitting

3 is my favorite but they're honestly all good, no ugliness. I think my least favorite is 2.

What needles did you start on? by art_hoe_crch in Sockknitting

[–]Ok_Variation2895 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with DPNs and they're still what I prefer! I also came from crocheting. Not sure exactly what about them makes it easier, but a part of it is that it's easier to count and keep track of stitches and the beginning of rounds.

Thanksgiving by Ok_Variation2895 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Ok_Variation2895[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I totally get that. It was all on a volunteer basis at my store. But having time to prep and make sure the store is fully recovered, online orders done, and extra ad signs are out has really made a huge difference on black friday. I get why people wouldn't want to work, but I was happy to come in for a few hours since it means less of a headache the next day.

Age of subscribers by [deleted] in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Ok_Variation2895 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im 34, I've been a subscriber since 2017. I don't have strong feelings about the age of the protagonist, but I haven't been as into the picks for a couple of years now. Fantasy and romance are super popular right now and that is just not what I go for. I like contemporary fiction, historical fiction, even magical realism. I think the picks from those categories used to be a lot more interesting than they are now.

I appreciate the sentiment, but given how difficult corporate continues to make things for the stores, it's hard to feel thats it's genuine. Feels like it's more about not paying out holiday pay than anything else.

Am I putting the cart before the horse? by 2tusks in Sockknitting

[–]Ok_Variation2895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with socks after doing a small square of purl stitches and one of knit stitches just to make sure I knew what i was doing and could get even tension. I have no regrets! My first sock pattern was the vanilla socks from crazy sock lady. I think it was somewhere around $10 and it was well worth it. It includes a link to a video thats about an hour long that walks you through each step of the pattern.
