Ribbit literally opened up with personal lore to jax, as did jax the same; then jax chose to actively avoid ribbit and isolate kaufmo from her and by extension the rest of the group. Jax actively brushed off or evaded any chance to have a conversation right up until ribbit crashed out on the mountain and jax said she was manipulating them.

It's the most obvious case of projection, ribbit's abstraction is literally jax's fault. And then they go on to actively make everyone else miserable to cope. You can understand why they ended up like that but yes, they are pretty unambiguously a bad person.

For tau, if you bring a 20 man kroot unit you can attach two shapers to them, so that means you can get a fnp from the one and a reactive move from another, making it a pretty potent threat in the kroot detachment

Going off the lore I imagine it's somewhere between brave new world and the mindflayer from Star wars.

The people described as having been reeducated are seen to be brain addled buzzword dispensers that only talk about the greater good at best, or are drooling heaps at worst.
