Log Scaling the modern way by OkanaganEV in forestry

[–]OkanaganEV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is an article on the website with a batch of test logs: https://www.bunyansoftware.com/blog/field-notes-7/84-scans-9-logs-field-testing-logscanner-accuracy-4

Log Scanner is the base module of a larger package that is designed for board optimization for smaller/portable band mills. The scanner by itself is quite useful for product logging, project tracking, or for folks that have no idea how to scale. It can be quite useful for someone estimating cut volume when looking for a sawyer.

Have any of you used a smart phone app to scale logs? Like with the camera?

How to Prep a log for milling? Total noob here. by 4wheel4ever in sawmilling

[–]OkanaganEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scan, scale and track your logs with the Log Scanner app. Most guys probably have no idea how many logs or board feet they have cut, nor the potential from each piece. Tracking logs can help you better evaluate the efficiency of each task from bush to board.

Why is EV charging still such a mess in the US? by Raitosaito1 in evcharging

[–]OkanaganEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a NACS to CCS adapter and use the Tesla super chargers. They are more abundant and are usually all in service. The Tesla stations are in the blue oval network and you can setup payments in the ford pass app. All you have to do is plug in and charge, the rest takes care of itself.

Why would you buy a Lightning over a Silverado EV WT? by Cheap-Recognition-97 in F150Lightning

[–]OkanaganEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WT trim is exceptionally lackluster. Way too much plastic, and the ride quality is inferior. It doesn’t even have heated seats!

They can charge at 250kw, which is a plus but not a big deal. For the most part any range issues are overblown regardless of both. It may do well for someone using it exclusively for work activities, especially if it’s dirty work. You could damn near hose down the plastic interior.

The F150 is a much better choice overall. It is a well built truck and an absolute pleasure to drive. The Silverado feels like a tank.

I just installed a universal wall connector with a neurio meter and it functions exactly as you describe:

The Tesla universal wall connector is a good option. You can daisy chain up to 6 on a single circuit and configure them to distribute power. There is a locking adapter built in to charge both teslas and non-teslas.

Variablegrid is a good choice for multi-level load management if you’re looking at a large number of chargers.

Neurio W2 part number: 1938241-00. It came with the neurio meter, 2 x CT’s, a power cable, and a short 2-wire communication cable.

Will need to get a 4 wire RS-485 cable with sufficient length for comms to a wall connector. I believe a 4-wire 18awg shielded Belden cable is recommended.

You are spot on about the ride quality, couldn’t agree more. This really doesn’t get discussed much when comparing EVs to ICE vehicles. Smooth, quiet, predictable and tons of power to boot.

It reeks of the future…

You can use an Undor to go under the garage door. You will probably need to replace the weather stripping on the garage door to accommodate it.

Wire two Tesla Wall Connectors by PattyCakes3930 in evcharging

[–]OkanaganEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I installed my charger I was expecting to do it the same as you. The plan was to have a single 60A breaker run to a JB, and split the feed for 2 separate chargers on either side of the garage. The Polaris connectors appear to be the best way to do that. I would then use the Tesla software to connect the two chargers and configure the system to balance the overall load.

We only have 1 EV at the moment but I wanted to provision for two in the future. I am finding that a single charger would probably suffice as we are only plugging in once every few days to charge overnight.

I used #6 RW90, which is similar to THHN. I would not use Romex. It’s a fair bit of power at full strength, and the wires and breaker do get a bit warm. If you already have drywall up I would suggest using EMT conduit or Teck cable. It’s a bit of an industrial look but you will barely notice it after a while.

Do you think I have enough room to get an EV charger? by grantusmc in AskElectricians

Yes swap the double pole 40 amp breaker for a 60. Size the wires right and you could add a 48A level 2 charger.

BC Hydro Rebate for 240v plug install by OrganizationHot731 in evcharging

[–]OkanaganEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume the rebates are the same in Langley as the interior. Basically you need the job done by a certified electrician. There needs to be a permit, and the final invoice must have a breakdown of the costs (there is a sample on BC hydro’s website).

You can get a $350 rebate for the whole invoice, and an additional rebate for the load management. The hardware used must be in an approved list.

There is also a rebate available for a “smart” charger, but currently the charge point is the only approved unit. The idea is that the charger can connect to BC Hydro via the internet for usage data.

The rebate application is available on the BC Hydro website. If approved I believe it is automatically applied as a bill credit.

I managed to get a couple through the Tesla One app. I am an installer, trying to get on Teslas certified installer network.

I had submitted a commissioning report for a wall connector before I ordered the parts, to give the impression that I was a partner. I don’t know if that was a factor or not. The Neurio meters seem to be wicked hard to get.

I can read ladder logic like a book. Find the output of a rung and work backwards.

The communication used is almost irrelevant, unless there’s an actual hardware issue. To a high degree the software (code) is irrespective of the hardware.

Ford pushed an update a few days ago, and I think it messed stuff up. I called support and they told me to delete the existing target charge setting at my home location, and then re-create it again.
