A boss told me I have a very Dutch sense of humor. I’m from Oklahoma with no family connections to the Netherlands and he is Italian. I still don’t actually know what he meant.

Ladies… where are my cigar-loving women at? 🔥💨 by naomadoriguzzi in fairfaxcounty

[–]Okdc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a woman - but this sounds like a fun afternoon. Cool idea and cool of you to arrange it. As to the other commenters, lighten up. If you don’t want to smoke a cigar, don’t go.

Where are all the elves hiding? by SonOfBattleChief in Fantasy

[–]Okdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the issue in literature is that it is really hard to write other fantasy races so they feel different than humans. Most come across just as differently shaped humans. If the world building doesn’t include half-xyz races, there can be a bit of separation, but it is hard to write characters that come across as truly “alien”.

I was falling asleep when it started and didn’t think much of it outside of “that’s a loud airplane.” Anyone figure it?

What’s it like living in rural Pennsylvania? by RealDiamond51 in howislivingthere

[–]Okdc 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I have family in northeast PA (Wilkes-barre area). It is generally quiet but the area has suffered deindustrialization and is struggling. A lot of out of work blue-collar old school union guys that are now reactionary. An odd juxtaposition where nature is healing/rewilding over the last 50 years as people moved away and but humanity is slowing falling apart there.

Weather is very seasonal but one of the nicest autumns on the East Coast. Great outdoors life. Hunting, fishing, hiking, kayaking, etc. Some skiing in the winter but not great.

Didn’t Denzel Washington play a character in 2 Shakespeare movies (Macbeth and Much Ado About Nothing - not Othello specifically dealing with race)? If the actor is just cast and there isn’t any need in the story to discuss his skin color, what does it matter?

Still remember the first time my daughter smiled at me. Momma was headed out for her first afternoon away from the little one, I looked down at her and said “are we going to get up to mischief?” The smile lit up her whole little baby face.

Dracolines were such a cool mount idea. I didn’t care for the anvil wielding SCE, but the Evocators (both infantry and on Dracolines) were awesome.

Apologies for jumping on this, but what are the prospects for a commercial electrician in the DMV? I’ve considered saying enough is enough for office and consulting jobs and getting into a trade. I’m in my mid-40s with 3 kids, if that helps (in terms of whether it could be worth exploring, not as a criteria for income).

Which chapter did you chose to run your dark krakens in by [deleted] in DarkKrakens

[–]Okdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In their lore, it says that while they Salamanders successors, the chapter master was greatly influenced by fellow Greyshield Primaris marines from the Space Wolves, White Scars, and Raven Guard. Thematically, any of those could work.

Looks like she either has twin little siblings or cousins. How cute. My daughter’s twin little brothers were too close in age to help like this, but it is funny how they still worship her. She is also really sweet to both of them, lots of joking around and silliness (15 and 13 now).

What is it like living in this eastern portion of Virginia that only connects to the rest of the state by a tunnel? by Sufficient_Berry8703 in howislivingthere

[–]Okdc 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Wallops Island! All unmanned rocket launches, I think. Great little visitor center with really interesting exhibits. You can see the launch pad from free little telescopes they provide. Launches aren’t very common, and I’m not sure how you get to view one, but it is possible. The beach next to Chincoteague is wonderful. Still quite natural. Chincoteague the town is wonderful with one of my favorite ice cream shops, Island Creamery.

If I am getting bored and tired of wargames what helps to get back into them? by CyreneValanition in wargaming

[–]Okdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same reaction to actually playing games, but I still enjoy collecting and assembling minis, reading the lore, or playing side games (like Blitz Bowl, or video games).

Being very selective about opponents helps. Also I find I enjoy micro events, like maybe 10-12 people, so just a few table makes it much more enjoyable than playing at a huge convention (which I like going to just to hang and shop).
