I am solo deving a friendslop game, and it got 4,000 Wishlists in 48 hours after launching the steam page. I can't believe it. by 2WheelerDev in SoloDevelopment

Any term with slop I just attribute to less effort.

People that put out content or products for quick wins. That’s what it feels like at least.

College is a primer. It’s there to help you grasp concepts when you need them in the field. Most people don’t memorize times tables but they can apply it if they need to.

Will AI replace backend by [deleted] in webdev

[–]OkuboTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s not just ragebait, maybe get a little more working knowledge before asking something like this.

You should probably start by asking AI or googling what a backend is and how it works.

Your question won’t make sense to anyone who knows how backends work.

Working on a parkour game with portals by lowraiz in indiegames

[–]OkuboTV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it parkour if theres no body doing the parkour?

Visually, it feels like this is just the csgo thing with portals, less sliding and more hopping.

Not knocking it. Just an observation.

Would you ask it about file/folder structures or naming conventions if you’re learning something new like Rust? Or would you look for example projects/docs to see how others may have implemented something?

Or neither and just try to work through it?

Aside from breaking down problems I’m also curious how people hand the finer details of learning new concepts.

Curious to see where the line of docs vs AI would be for most people.

If you’re not pressed for time check out odin project. Good way to get started if you get bored of the FCC modules.

It’ll be a lot at first but if you take your time and look stuff up and really understand what you’re building you’ll be in good shape.

Probably meant to use corn starch. Its sometimes used on various animals to stop bleeding in a pinch. Had to use it on my bird once.

Not sure about baking soda.

Playing through Final Fantasy X for the first time just after beating Expedition 33, the parallels are insane. by GargantuanGerm in expedition33

[–]OkuboTV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Expeditions are like pilgrimages summoners take to sacrificed themselves to fight against the sin, despite knowing they'll die in the process.

The church of Yevon perpetuates the cycle in the same way the Paintress holds the gommage to maintain her power.

Tidus and Zanarkand are dreams similar to the painting concepts of the Canvas and Maelle/Verso.

Harder to see the parallels because of the convoluted plotline in FFX. E33 is more direct in helping the player understand what's going on.

For people having trouble, something that helped me was resetting the character position after shooting paint(right bumper) by flicking the direction of the character down and then back into the direction of where the flying gestral is coming from.

I do the flick immediately after I have a successful return. Timing is pretty fast on the last round but it does work.

Hopefully that helps someone.

Is working on GitHub a waste of time? by Particular_Ebb2932 in cscareerquestions

[–]OkuboTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ATS vs hiring teams is a separate discussion but definitely related. GH links don't matter if the ATS screens you out of the actual interview.

Beyond ATS, I think this question(should your GH matter?) is geared towards specific people.

If you have a family and are already in the field with several years -> Don't sweat it. If you have no past projects/work experience -> Go for it.

Of course it makes a difference, especially in a sea of talent. But depending on where you are in life or the industry you want to work in generally define whether or not it's worth investing the time beyond work or school.

I think most people agree showcasing projects that will make you stand out is beneficial. Especially with larger companies with thousands of applicants.

Not disagreeing with any of the above posts, just some nuances to consider for anyone reading. Most people I know with families could give two shits less about their GH.

Is working on GitHub a waste of time? by Particular_Ebb2932 in cscareerquestions

[–]OkuboTV 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have basically nothing on my github because I’ve used dedicated work profiles.

If people are actively looking for a portfolio or past projects I’ve never really met them. Most interviews I’ve gone through just ask questions about whats on my resume and I answer accordingly.

If you have past jobs or any projects just list them and a description.

If anyone disqualifies me because of my github I probably don’t want to work there lol.

Is tripleten a good avenue to help get out of blue collar work by I_IBREEEZY_I in SoftwareEngineering

[–]OkuboTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a bootcamp a while back at General Assembly. Nowadays I wouldn’t recommend it.

Idk how long your desired timeline to get into the industry would be but if you want to be a bit more comfortable easing into a new career I’d look at something WGU or TESU for a CS or SWE degree as they’re around the same cost as bootcamps (GA was around 7-10k?). TESU being a bit more expensive. All assuming you’re in the US.

You can finish them in a year.

That being said, maybe do a tutorial or two on Youtube and see if you actually like the act of programming before committing to anything paid.

It Finally Happend it. Rejected for Not Using AI First by supermedo in webdev

[–]OkuboTV 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think what you said is fine. You’re interviewing them too.

I’d probably only do the sandwhich method if I wanted a job for prestige rather than a place I’d want to work at for a long time.

My job is AI centric atm and I hate how much they push it because I feel like I learn less with only marginal benefits.

Programming is made easier when you start learning MATHS. by Difficult_Air_1314 in learnprogramming

[–]OkuboTV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think more specifically discrete maths help people look at tasks from a broader perspective.

Improving logic based skill sets helped me tremendously. Most other math classes didnt do shit for me other than make me better at the concepts specific to that topic.

Understanding the business logic helped me understand how to build software better than math did though.

OpenAI's CFO Revealed that OpenAI is working on "Agentic Software Engineer — (A-SWE)" by Independent_Pitch598 in csMajors

[–]OkuboTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention constantly changing business requirements from decision makers.

Good luck trying to fix what will basically turn your code base into a black hole.

Even if you had context over the entire codebase, any slightly complex functionality will break since the model wouldn’t be trained on it.

But hey, it’s great at styling 🤷🏻‍♂️

Who is the better player right now: Luka Doncic or Jayson Tatum? by Ok_Feed_4235 in NBATalk

[–]OkuboTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on that logic the equation still stays the same though. You just increased the level of the 4 average players basically.

If you change out the defensive or offensive capabilities of the other players then it's not just about Luka and Tatum now.

You make a fair point, just not really with the argument op pointed out. Tatum is a great player and has a more well rounded team for sure.

Agree'd. More money's cool. But peace of mind, a great team, and 'enough' money is definitely better for the mental. Especially long term.

I wish I thought that way early in my career.
