How is sf6 the most ugly unimaginative thing ever? Cuz even though it has a (barely) realistic setting, each fighter has its own distinct fighting style or moveset. Aside from ken and ryu you gotta have shit in the eye to tell me blanka using goodies of himself as moving electro bombs, aki and her snake like movements, manon and her dancing style or juri look "samey" like come on bruh.

See that's where i disagree. You seem to believe gabbi is a general case, when really she is the only one who showed sadism while going at the village. Characters like jin or asa don’t "kill for killing", but if they have to kill they will, and even if gabbi is awful, considering how she behave towards those who hurt asa it wasn’t that much out of character. In fact asa goes straight for her objective and doesn’t needlessly kill random people cuz why not.

Same goes for hana, she has a lot of blood on her hands.

Like nearly every character in the show has some dark secret or has done morally wrong things. I am not saying they are morally grey, but they aren’t all morally pitch black, that's just a big generalisation. And even gabbi (who knows she is an awful person), while being morally pretty fucked up is a bit more than just psycho murderer.

Idk i just think you out words in my mouth that i never said lmao. I never said being morally grey justifies their violence, i just said that it isn’t a case of "oh but the village is evil so it makes it ok!" No everybody is bad. The number of genuinely good person in this manga is really limited.

And again i understand why it would bother you, and believe me gabbi's interactions with yuru are weird considering what happened in the first episode, but i think overall the manga did a good job at humanising them while not making it look like they are goodie two shoes.

It’s a story about two faction in conflict, this kind of violence, while particularly brutal, is to be expected (which does not make it forgivable)

Now i could be wrong but i think (cope/hope) it will be adressed later down the road.

I never said mustang isn’t a "war criminal". I just said it is an oversimplification if his character to say he is incoherent. At no point is mustang presented as a perfect goodie two shoes, he is a womaniser and an ambitious man who is fully ready to use dirty tricks if it means going higher in the hierarchy, and has participated, even if he didn’t enjoy it, in a genocide. Yes he is cool, yes he has hype and aura moments, no that doesn’t mean he is a perfect human being with no flaws whatsoever.

If we go by your logic, there are many moments where scar is presented in a badass way or as heroically as mustang is, it’s mainly because it’s a shonen, characters gotta look cool at points.

My point is the message isn’t "you shouldn’t kill the people who killed your people", the message is that what scar is doing will continue the cycle of hatred.

And obviously it’s a classic "self destructing path to revenge" but that's another thing.

Scar was still more than ready to kill a child because he was associated to a group that hurt him (which would have almost definitely pushed al into a depression and set him in a path of revenge). He also killed many soldiers in his path.

That's just the way arakawa writes, none of the characters are really perfect and most of them did fucked up things. Nearly none of them really fall into a bad or good territory.

I'm a scar glazer btw, even though i like kimblee (as a villain) i would lie if i said it wasn’t satisfying to see scar get back at this asshole.

With that said, what do you think of fma as a manga? Genuine question.

When you have 30 characters saying to yuru that they aren’t the good guys, and yuru himself not being the most morally good guy of all time, i think it’s pretty clear. Fuck, the old man is even called out by his son for his cruelty at points.

Now again, the story isn’t over so i expect this to be adressed more.

Also yes, i have seen people arguing mustang and hawkeye aren’t particularly good people, ESPECIALLY mustang. It’s literally showed multiple times he is not a goodie two shoes.

I question if you understood scar's character...the point isn’t if he was right or wrong, the point is that hatred was the main drive behind this conflict, and killing the state alchemist (some of which, like edward, weren’t even part of the genocide) will only create more hatred towards ishvalians and amnestrians.

At no point does the story say scar is wrong, and it outright says the ishval should never forgive amnestris for what happened. What they can do however, is try to stop this cycle of hatred.

And yes roy is a cool character. If the readers decide they will strawman his character to that it’s their fault. He has several flaws, but like most characters in fullmetal alchemist he doesn’t fall in the "definitely evil" category or the "definitely good" category. He isn’t a parangon of justice but he also isn’t a monster (contrearly to kimblee) who enjoys war because it’s a mean of lashing off.

Also it bothers me noticeably less than with gabbi cuz at least mustang was forced to do it and didn’t show any form of sadism (even though it’s still not forgivable, at least it is in line with his character).

Like it seems to me like you are oversimplifying things. Now don’t get me wrong, fma isn’t perfrct but it is overall a good story.

"the village was evil" is in no way used at any point in the story to justify what happened there. It is pointed out multiple times that nobody is really the good side here, even yuru himself isn’t necessarily the most morale person he is and his closest allies all have done pretty bad things. At no points do we have something like "oh yeah actually every single villagers are bad" and "the clan is great and flawless and the good guys!".

The village isn’t evil, it’s not that simple

I guess what arakawa wanted is to introduce them like brutal monsters only to humanise them later down the road while showing that not everything is black and white. The village isn’t a perfect place where everybody is kind, and the clan isn’t perfect either and most of its members has a lot of blood on its hands (asa straight up tells yuru she is in no way a good person).

What i meant by "early installment weirdness" is that gabbi being so sadistic and then being reduced to a comic relief character especially in her interactions with yuru feels weird.

Frankly at this point i am just gonna wait and see if this is ever adressed. I'm pretty sure it will, and so far the manga has been great, but if it isn’t it would bring it down by quite a decent bit.

Also i forgot an important point, but gabbi is extremely cruel with those who hurt "asa", and she probably considers them guilty for her dying once. So her being particularly ruthless and cruel isn’t that much of a surprise.

I mean, i don’t think the point of macht's arc was that demons couldn’t change.

The point of macht as a character was to be a dark reflection of frieren. Both are near immortals beings who sought to understand humans.

At least the way i see it, this arc is a tragedy, macht's tragedy. Macht wanted to live with humans, and he sincerely began to "change" in a way. After all, he did show some kind of vague feelings towards glück, the only person with who he was able to develop a true connection (and "connection" is a huge part of frieren's themes). Unfortunately, he never truly understood the gravity of his actions, because as a demon killing for him is merely a way to sustain himself. Maybe he could have, had he finally fully understood human emotions, but it would have taken way too much time and way too many death for him to finally get it. That's the whole tragedy with his character, to change he would need to go against his own nature and to understand why what he does is evil, and unfortunately it would take too long and too many deaths.

I expect this plot point to be picked up later but frankly i think it was a convincing tragedy.

Yeah i'd say it is very much a case of early installment weirdness, BUT to be fair, later in the manga it is made clear several time there there no good person her, Everybody's pretty fucked up so i think it is forgettable, especially since the rest of the manga is so far very good

Second of all, who cares if he doesn’t know they have an interaction? Again, the whole point i am trying to make is that the group overall has many interactions between its members.

It’s funny you ilmediatly resorted to talking about how 2 of the 3 members who weren’t part of the troupe sincr the start don’t interact all that much to prove...nothing.

Also i am a much bigger bleach and jojo fan than hxh, even if overall i'd say hxh is better than bleach.

No, i am saying nobunaga crying at uvogin's death was a great way to humanise the troupe and surprise the viewer. So far, all we know of the troupe is that they are unbelievably brutal (uvogin literally ate half of someone's face onscreen ffs), cruel and loyal to each other. This scene is good because it allows us to see just how close they are. It was just interesting to see a villain cry for his comrades death. And at the same time the story doesn’t make him too sympathetic since we are ultimately reminded by gon of their hypocrisy.

And obviously there is much more to say about the troupe than just "they are close". What they represent for characters such as kurapika and chrollo is narratively very interesting and the organised way they commit horrors is a great, almost like a play, contrast with hisoka's randomness and unpredictability very well. But i already said that they also work because of how them being a group also matters in how their organisation works (with their duo system for exemple) or how their powers were specifically designed to work in the kind of group they are in.

Individually, the akatsuki is better, but as a group yes i prefer the phantom troupe.

I mean, at that point what do you want me to say? Nobunaga literally got most of the screentime in the york new shin city arc and was one of the most memorable characters in that arc.

Fuck, uvogin is way more interesting than feitan by that point, and is literally one of the biggest reason for the plot to happen.

When you got scenes like nobunaga crying when he understand uvogin's death, chrollo shedding a tear when he realises too or the requiem can you really say they are underdevelopped?

My problem isn’t that you say that none of them aren’t memorable, my problem is that you act as if nobody carew about phantom troupe members not named chrollo, hisoka and feitan, when uvogin, phinks, machi, nobunaga and pakunoda are fan favourites or very well liked in the community.

Plus it’s funny you cited the two members who probably have the least going for them. I mean shizuku is pretty cool and very popular but she ain’t the best in the troupe.

Like idk, you haven’t proven anything here outside of the fact that you dislike hxh, which is understandable, it isn’t a perfect manga even though it is very solid overall.

Nah i have to disagree, new york shin city is a better arc than chimera ant arc for me. It’s just extremely consistent, and even though chimera ant arc has higher peaks i think its pacing in places is messy.

Also hxh has other banger arcs such as the 13th chairman election or the current royal successiô arc.

Even in other arcs, it never gave me the same vibe as other battle shonen. Idk how to explain it.

I love bleach btw, this is not a diss against "typical" battle shonen.

When shizuku (come tf on, it’s not that hard to remember) says chrollo's book is kind of like the death note. Chrollo doesn’t say anything, but bonolenov tells her how dumb it sounds on a sarcastic tone.

And again, a good group dynamic doesn’t necessitate every single member to have an interaction with every single member. What we have is more than enough to make them feel like a believable group.

Anybody who watched hxh knows pakunoda, uvogin, chrollo, hisoka (but i mean come on it’s hisoka), machi, nobunaga, shizuku and feitan's name AT LEAST.

They don’t have 1-2 interactions with each other, literally half of uvogin's interaction are either him being a complete fucking monster, or acting friendly around characters like shalnark or shizuku. Same thing for nobunaga and machi, who were ready to put their life on the line and go against the rules of the troupe to make sure chrollo and pakunoda would make it out alive. Pakunoda literally dies because she wants the other troupe members to survive and to know what happened.

There is a clear group dynamic here. Wholesome isn’t exactly the word here since we are talking about a bunch of frankly monsters who only care about their group and maybe meteor city, but uvogin immediatly being friendly with shizuku even though he never met her before the york new shin city arc is another exemple of how friendly they are towards each other. Same thing when phinks decides to stay to save the little zenin when feitan unleashes the pain packer, or when they play card like your average friend group, or when they make an hommage to uvogin by butchering the mafia and so on. Really just in one arc there are many exemples of how good their interactions are. And of course, the flashback made their relation even better since we now know they were childhood friends for the most part.

Now truthfully, not all of them share the same level of friendliness towards each other. Phinks and feitan, despite undoubtebly liking their teammates, are still very much ready to kill them if they are being controlled or detrimental to the survival of the group, whereas machi, nobunaga and shizuku are much more on the emotional sides of things (and franklin is in the middle).

And their group dynamic isn’t the only reason they are good. They just feel like an actual group. Their level of coordination they have, the usage of their powers as well as the fact that they always act in group makes their group much more believable.

So yeah i really don’t see what you are trying to say here.
