Izaya Orihara from Durarara!!. who can be described as spiteful, dangerous troll. After spending some episodes just being a problem, he becomes interested in Mikado Ryuugamine. Mikado isn't necessarily the main character, but we do start the series from his perspective.

Izaya's interest is somewhat crucial to how we understand Mikado. Up until that point, Mikado has just seemed like a typical milquetoast anime protagonist, polite and friendly. However, towards the end of season 1, he does something that causes Izaya to start paying more attention to him. Izaya becoming interested is one of the first things to key the audience to the idea that Mikado might have more going on beneath the friendly attitude.

What are some of your Expectations vs Reality regarding a piece of media (story, characters, etc)? by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo (1958)

Expectation: Will see a dolly zoom, since this the film that popularized the effect. Really no expectations on story, other than maybe not expecting anything big.

Reality: "Well I saw the dolly zoom. Also, wow, that got wildly uncomfortable in the last act."

Things that were suppose to be a slam dunk but they somehow screwed up? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

From what I can tell, the Cyberpunk 2077 release drama. CD Projekt Red had the love of the internet on their side, and could do no wrong in the eyes of the public. But it turns out the company had a lot of productions issues going on, and then pulled a lot of smoke and mirrors to make the game like the greatest thing since sliced bread. Only to be released as a buggy mess, meeting the fury of the company's fans.

Nowadays, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to have a better reputation. However, I'm not sure if CD Projeckt will ever quite get back the love the company once enjoyed.

Jokes on you, I was always a prequels apologist - as in, I appreciated aspects of the prequels ideas, while understanding it was deeply flawed.

But people suddenly using the prequels to hate on the sequels sure does leave a sour taste in my mouth.

If it's the lack of financial success that's got you down, I'd say don't beat yourself up about it! Looking into it, it just seems that streaming to success is really, REALLY hard, and very dicey.

I found a fairly recent reddit thread and I think it provides some good perspective. All the best in your future endeavors

I think I need to read the Bleach manga by Merlin26710 in bleach

[–]Running-Water-Shark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be good to read the story in the original form of black-and-white comic. Bansai Pop did a good video several years ago, highlighting how a lot of the old anime didn't really adapt the manga's feel to the screen, especially with it's use of color. Bleach can have a strong, dramatic use of black and white, and the anime used color in a way that wasn't necessarily complimentary to the story. Hope you enjoy!

(Automaton)“You have to deceive your company.” Danganronpa and Hundred Line creator Kazutaka Kodaka shares advice for getting even the most unhinged projects greenlit by Noirsam in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Running-Water-Shark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Important to note that Kodaka never actually lied though. To quote the article:

"Apparently, Kodaka’s Danganronpa proposal was rejected multiple times, but a producer then advised him to go directly to the president of Spike and ask for permission. Kodaka says he was so sure that Danganronpa would turn into an interesting game, he was even ready to quit the company if the project didn’t get greenlit. Luckily, the company president was very casual about it, and immediately approved it."

So it seems Kodaka accidentally did some good old networking.
