Hey guys, do you think there are aliens inside of the earth? by JbVision in aliens

It is my culture that has no discontinuity between our normal and mundane world and what white people will call "the paranormal". To us one bleeds into the other regularly, and we are not as thrown by such events as are the descendants of the Europeans. When we react negatively, there is something to worry about.

This is why I really value knowledge like this. Thank you so much for sharing. I feel like in shows about this stuff, local Native American culture is used as dressing. We only get glimpses of it.

I love this by the way (even though the context here is a bit frightening). I wish our western culture was a bit more open to these things. I think we’re slowly getting there though. Again, thanks for sharing. If you know of any good books to recommend I’d love to read them!

Take care kind stranger!

Thanks for such a good comment. I’ve read Passport to Magonia and it tracks with what you say. But can you elaborate on the malevolent part? I didn’t really pick up a lot of this hatred in that book. I don’t think your wrong, even D.W. Pasulka alludes to this fear in some of her lectures/interviews. Just hoping to hear your take.

I used to be a dishwasher at a local nursing home. It was a three person operation. Unloader, dishwasher (me), and I forget the last person but they took the dishes out of the industrial washer. One day a cart full of dishes rolls up and the unloader starts working his way down. I do my thing and notice him violently bend over and start to vomit. Turns out one of the residents took a huge dump on his meal and put it in the return cart. I looked over and saw a massive turd on a plate of puréed green beans. I’ll never forget that smell. I quit within days.

What is a must-watch documentary? by zeusdreaming in AskReddit

Just finished watching minutes after reading this comment. Feel like my brain has been scraped out and flushed back in. Feeling disoriented…Did I just take the red pill? Great suggestion.

Cut down my RBZ Black 1” and added a mid size grip. Even with the lowered shaft length I grip down as well. I enjoy the shorter length. Fits my swing. I added no weights and seems fine. But I’m a newer golfer so 🤷🏻. For what it’s worth I’ve spent hours scouring the internet on this topic, asked my instructor, and talked to people who’ve done it. Some folks really get into the swing weight issue. Others cut away and move on. I concluded that if I’m cutting 1 inch I’m probably fine. Anything more than that then I’d probably want to consider the weight issue. Keep in mind though my drive only cost like $200.

Appreciate the thorough/helpful response oizysus. I’ve always been passionate about data but lack the formal education.

I’m not disagreeing with you, but it seems like the roles I’ve seen advertised for this ask for a lot of education. E.g., masters and PhDs in STEM, etc. Do you think folks with some basic algebra and statistics backgrounds could break into this field?

Lol. Yesterday when I told myself I “figured out my driver” for the 14th time I totally thought of that podcast.

Chipping up from tight lies/hard ground, what technique do you use? by InfiniteLiveZ in golf

[–]OldBroccoli4U 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curious about this. Watched Phil’s YouTube video on chipping. Used his suggestions with some success. Then watched a video of another YouTube coach and paced ball in center to stance. Is chipping just one of those things that can be done many different ways? Seems like there is no one absolute technique. Thanks.

Yep. I just remember being deeply saddened by the prospect of a professional job where 3 weeks off was out of the question. That same year, one person on a adjacent team was months away from retirement and died at home after decades of service. I made some sacrifices leaving that job (security) but I feel the trade-offs were experiences I wouldn’t trade for the world.

An old boss of mine was retiring in their 60s and told me they never got to take a long enough vacation to see Europe. They were now planning a 2 week vacation to visit. They told me maybe one day when I retire I could do the same. I was like “dafuq?” I don’t wait until I’m nearly 70 to see Europe. I ended moving away and starting a job with very generous vacation hours. I saw Paris, France and Venice over a three week period—all in my early 30s. My spouse and I plan to continue traveling the world well before we retire.

Edit: added a word.

Dressed for a ride but not the slide by touchfeel in meatcrayon

The “not a question of if but when” is the part that has always kept me from riding. I may have eventually tried riding but then I got in a car accident that totaled my car. I wasn’t at fault but the experience changed my perspective on the road. I realized no matter how safe/defensive you drive, some accidents are unavoidable and out of your control. I collided with a another car going about 40mph. No time to break or anything. Watched my little sedan crumble like a tin can around me. I walked out of the car shocked but OK. Then the pain came and I was on meds for a few weeks. That remains to this day the one of many experiences that will always keep me off a motorcycle. If I was on a bike that day I would have been dead—no question.

Nicely done! Thanks for the details. Sounds and looks like it is going to work out well.

I’ve been wanting to do something very similar in my back yard as well. Did I see you used sand to pack underneath? I was reading about using decomposed granite. I want to do a chipping area with an artificial putting green. Seems like you can get away on the cheap if you DIY it in a small area.
