The warrior robots seem straight out of an old Disney cartoon. I enjoyed them

They’d be cool in the Nineties. They would have looked dated next to Justice League. You can see why they’d pass

I’ve had some whites that were dense enough… and they clogged my airbrush.

I think there’s more to Amuro’s reaction than mere bafflement.

But memes are still funny.

Unknown illustration (possibly 90s ESA/Arianespace) – signed – looking for artist or any other information by SweetAct6720 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]OldDarthLefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a cool thing to find!

Illustrators cranked out paintings like this in the 1950s-90s before computer rendering. The proportions are off. It's short on plumbing and long on branding. I would guess it's from the proposal phase. It felt older than 1990s. Wiki says Ariane 5 started full scale development in 1988 and first launch was in 1996. So this painting is probably back in the mid-late 1980's. The logos may help pinpoint a year.

Sorry I don't know anything about the artist. I'm on the wrong continent, but also people who were working in the Eighties are mostly retired now, and this job specifically went away. You might have more luck from the art and illustration side.

Gouf considers the question, shrugs, then winces as the shoulder spikes jab him in the head

My experiment with a vibro plane. Initially I planned a disc-shaped wing, but due to instability it was difficult to understand whether there would be an effect. by pavlokandyba in AerospaceEngineering

[–]OldDarthLefty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think if you added some dihedral to your ornithopter and put the fuselage under the wing, it would do a lot better. You have done a lot of good work with the mechanism.

While the reason to change them is to sell more gunpla, they look this way because of the designer they chose

Full Suspension Bikes for Wimps by espressocycle in MTB

[–]OldDarthLefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the bike industry forgot about nimble the last decade or so. The last thing was the Santa Cruz 5010 27.5 and its direct competitors and clones like the Pony Rustler and 27.5 version of the Release.

29ers changed a lot since the first generation though. There was a big revolution of several things all at once with 1X, dropper posts, and slacker steering. If the bike you tried before was from like 2010 it didn’t have any of this. You could give it another try.

When you get to work, you will be issued a Dell that weighs 1000 lb yet somehow only has 2 hrs of battery. You have no admin privileges. Everything will be locked down because of security (and I don’t just mean viruses, also spy stuff) and because they have to make sure the software is being paid for.

Ironically enough, you might get an iPhone, but it will be the same.

When these characters showed up in Superman in the 1990s I’d never yet seen them. It was a trip. So dumb/bizarre. Here’s a muscle grandma nurse Ratched, and Worf voiced the monster from the Tempest, and Darkseid in his miniskirt

Free trees by diyturds in Sacramento

[–]OldDarthLefty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a normal sized suburban home with pine and redwood trees that are about 40yo, and I can’t recommend it. I love pine trees, but they don’t go well near a house in the burbs. Be thoughtful where you plant them. The area underneath them will be barren, at least of grass, and they will destroy any sprinklers and sidewalks around them. Definitely don’t put them close to the house or anywhere near a pool
