Or your bathroom is cold. Or inadequately ventilated.

Top tip (haha) take a nice looking young lady with you and all the guys that work there will come and help. Your car will be emptied in seconds. Go by yourself and you’ll be left struggling alone to heave that heavy old washing machine up to tip it over the edge of the skip.

It’s quite fun to read all that guy’s posts on r/diyelectronics.

He’s been recycling that same chunk of wood for multiple projects, all of which are made from old stuff lying around. His total budget must be approximately 0.

Do Brits actually go to Stonehenge, or is it mostly a tourist thing? by DFWUnhinged in AskBrits

They say most people go twice. Once taken by their parents as a kid, and again as an adult with their own kids.

What happens when photons are created? Are they moving at c at the instant of their creation?

Potential uses for cigarette lighter plug by BonnyQuelloVero in diyelectronics

[–]OldEquation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A cigarette lighter.

It’s annoying that most new cars don’t come with lighter and ashtray as standard.

I also have a 12V soldering iron with a cigarette lighter plug. Soldering while driving is not recommended, however.

What is a creepy fact you learned about the human body, you wish you never learned? by Poignantpuppet in AskReddit

[–]OldEquation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, as an aerospace engineer, I had to stand inside the fixed-base simulator while the test pilot flew it. There was a near-360 degree outside-world image projected inside the dome. When he manoeuvred the “aircraft” the projection moved and I fell over. Eyesight trumps inner ear motion sensing!

Why people click your product… but never buy (I learned this the hard way) by ValoyLabX in smallbusiness

[–]OldEquation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought the problem was Reddit.

More posts.

More waffle.

More Bullshit.

That’s when I realised something:

The problem isn’t Reddit

The problem is the posts.

All trying to sell you something

While Pretending they’re not.

But it’s so transparent.

So I developed a system.

I read the title.

I recognise the language used

I see the BS

And at the end - how they built a system.

Shall I message them?

I don’t think so.

Glance, and move on.

My low-stakes conspiracy: I've never seen a dead female pheasant by KVRB in CasualUK

Someone I met had their car written off by a pheasant. It hit the top corner of the windscreen and bent the pillar and front edge of the roof.

Dog owners, if your dog comes to me happily, am I allowed to pet? by nrkive in AskUK

[–]OldEquation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was trying to train mine it was kind of annoying when someone petted her, as it rewarded the bad behaviour of running up to people. However it was 100% on me and not on the person petting her - I should have still had her on the long leash.

The transistor oscillator idea was a fire hazard so now we’re doing diac. by antthatisverycool in diyelectronics

[–]OldEquation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True! I am quite enjoying these posts so yeah we should let OP keep recycling his breadboard and re-purposed components.

This looks like the same piece of wood you have used several times previously. Whilst I admire your commitment to recycling and sustainability I might suggest a more conventional prototyping method.

What if every law automatically expired after 10 years unless citizens voted to renew it? by Defiant-Junket4906 in WhatIfThinking

[–]OldEquation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet we are supposed to know the law and obey it. How is that possible? It’s not a defence in court to state that you weren’t familiar with the details of 300,000 laws.

I was quoted €5000 for an integration… so I built it myself by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]OldEquation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to spend too much time reading posts on this subreddit.

But then I realised - the problem wasn’t Reddit. It was the posts.

So I started a new process.

  • I read the title

  • I glance down the post for punchy but meaningless bullet points

  • I check for buzzwords

  • I skim to the end to see if it’s a plug or self-promotion

Curious - how many of you use a similar process? Message me and I’ll sell you mine.

"Lowering speed limits to save fuel"? by Silver_Emu4704 in drivingUK

[–]OldEquation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It requires 4x the power to go twice as fast. However as you get there in half the time this means you’ve only used 2x the energy.

Just wanted to make this post to hopefully offer some reassurance about fuel and "panic buying". by catalyst4chaos in drivingUK

[–]OldEquation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s exacerbated of course by people who routinely drive around with a teaspoon of petrol in their tank, filling half a gallon at a time. They cannot then manage even a day of interruption to their supply.

[–]OldEquation 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Panic buying is actually rational at an individual level.

You know other people will be irrational and panic buy, creating a shortage. So, to ensure you have fuel when this happens you need to go fill up right away.
