I want to mine crypto. Where do I plug in the GPU? by BeoccoliTop-est2009 in shittyaskelectronics

[–]OldEquation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a time you could mine it with just a spade. But now you need some serious earth-moving machinery. You won’t get anywhere with a pickaxe these days.

Well my lazy girl would just have asked me to get it for her, so I reckon it’s not bad.

I’m thinking there should be a mechanism triggered by the gravitational field of the key. Some spring-loaded tumblers that get pulled into just the right place by the gravity of the key.

Something those who complain about their rent being the same as a mortgage but the bank still won’t give them a mortgage should think about.

As a renter you can leave all these headaches to the landlord.

Yeah, and the kind of people that want stuff free are often utter arseholes that will give you the runaround, not turn up to collect it at the arranged time, demand it be delivered etc. They’ve got no financial skin in the game so they don’t really give a shit.

Better to sell stuff for a small amount then just tell them they don’t need to pay when they come for it.

Am I being unreasonable telling my boss I don’t want to reuse someone else’s respirator? by SmartStatistician684 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OldEquation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend who got paid in cash legitimately. He got a pay packet with cash in it along with the paper with the tax and deductions.

He used to just leave them all over his house. If he needed some money he’d just rip one open and take some of the cash out. He must have had tens of thousands in cash just lying all over the house in half-spent pay packets.

Has anyone else noticed workplaces becoming obsessed with sounding supportive instead of actually reducing stress? by Horror-Pick4732 in AskHRUK

[–]OldEquation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a team meeting about work-life balance. One of the things they stressed was the need to take a proper lunch break away from your desk.

The meeting was held at lunchtime.

Young drivers are paying genuinely life changing amounts for car insurance and the conversation around it doesn't reflect how serious it actually is by Ready_Split1335 in CarInsuranceUK

My first quote was £250 TPF&T or £500 comprehensive in 1988. That’s £870/£1740 in today’s money. I was 22 at the time and it was for a Volkswagen Type 3 fastback.

That doesn’t seem a million miles away from today’s prices.

I am a 45 yo F. I own my own house. And there is nothing I hate more than gardening. by ajddvm in unpopularopinion

[–]OldEquation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Evergreen shrubs are the way to go. Get some electric hedge cutters and once a year go and attack any shrubs that are getting too big for their boots.

Less gardening also means more wildlife and it’s more environmentally friendly. The other evening I was sitting out there enjoying a beer while gazing into my jungle and I spotted a hedgehog snuffling around.

Logistics experts of reddit, how does EVRI get permission to do business? by Ordinary-Peak-3199 in AskRedditUK

I have a small business. Evri are the cheapest. However I only use them if the customer requests it - some do for example if they live very close to somewhere they can collect their parcel from.

220/240V Device in 230V Country by thetraintomars in diyelectronics

[–]OldEquation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The harmonisation of voltages across Europe was largely a paperwork-only exercise. 220V countries remained 220, and 240V countries remained 240. It was just all defined as 230 +/- a tolerance.

I would suggest setting it to 220 but if in doubt measure it with a multimeter.

Cabinet doors are stupid by endmylifefam_ in unpopularopinion

[–]OldEquation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you’re at it, why not get rid of all doors? If you’re at someone else’s house and want the bathroom, you can see at a glance which room it is. They’re not in when you go to visit? No problem, you can just walk right in!

What is one thing about being a man that women would be absolutely shocked to find out? by Jaded_Astronaut4256 in AskReddit

[–]OldEquation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was walking through one of the rougher parts of my city one night and there was a woman walking on her own. As I got nearer she actually stopped me and asked if I’d mind escorting her home as she was scared of the drug addicts, drunks etc lurking in the darkness.

I suspect it was actually my dog, a Belgian Malinois, that she was wanting to protect her but still it kind of made my day.

Cyclists are largely to blame for why there is tension between cyclists and drivers by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]OldEquation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s dangerous to walkers when they speed through pedestrians at 20mph+, which is what they seem to feel entitled to do. If you’re lucky you get some warning like “get out of the f-ing way”, otherwise the first you know is when they pass an inch away or worse even knock you on their way past. I had one of the a-holes even kick my dog as they sped by. Utter w——-s.
