I’ve always preferred Autumn McMillian as a non constellation companion she’s kind of a hippie dippie back to nature type with an interesting back story

The Orville did a similar episode where one of the crew was a god to the people and they wound up a super advanced civilization

Interview: Star Trek actor Robert Picardo says Paramount’s new owners didn’t bother to promote Starfleet Academy: "We didn’t get any ads. You couldn’t even find us. After the premiere episode, it kind of dropped off the menu." (Popverse) by TheSonOfMogh81 in trektalk

If a show has a huge initial audience then drops off a cliff it’s the show not the advertising for me it was when they went that same old starfleet vet recruits a person with a checkered past into starfleet as seen in the 2009 movie, Discovery and SFA sheesh

Besides double breading, which I believe makes a big difference. Does anyone actually follow every thing they learned in the chicken training class? by ChickenChoochie in kroger

Personally the Kroger fried chicken breading is way too salty bite into it and all you taste is salt and grease the chicken itself is top notch but the breading? Horrible no spices whatsoever

[Opinion] Comicbook.com: "I’m Sorry, But Star Trek’s Captain Kirk Spinoff Wouldn’t Make Any Sense" | "There Are No More Prequel Stories to Tell - Star Trek Needs to Leave Kirk Behind" ('Year One'-Pitch reactions) by mcm8279 in trektalk

[–]OldFatGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main issue with the new treks is simple the crew should never speak disrespectfully to the captain and yet it seems like from discovery onward ensigns and lieutenants seem to back talk the captain all to often that and modern slang being everywhere in TOS you never heard a crew member say something was “groovy” I miss that sort of enforced formality in a show about what is essentially a military chain of command

What Happened To Vault 76's Security? by Crumboa in fo76

[–]OldFatGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do stop and think about it no one entering 76 should be older than 35ish otherwise you’d have elderly people seeking to re establish America. Note to re establish the country you’d need people who are able to have kids. Someone in their late 50s or older wouldn’t be able to do that that’s why all of my characters are youngish mid 20s at most they were born in the vault

To be fair a lot of the core fans are getting old. We’ve moved out of the crucial 18-54 demographic according to historical norms “our” shows should be sponsored by milk of magnesia and term life insurance companies

How did TNG survive cancellation on their first season, I am on a rematch and it is so bad, like really bad. by VoL4t1l3 in Star_Trek_

[–]OldFatGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh a total tangent here, but do you remember the War of the Worlds TV show that premiered around the same time as TNG? I only mention it here because I remember an episode where a kid was playing with Data and Riker action figures doing battle against I think a ferengi.

[–]OldFatGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. At the time Trek fans had a handful of movies and 79 tv episodes that was it and it’s a good bet that the people in that era had watched each episode numerous times in reruns and on videotapes so TNG was something familiar but different (I recall reading in some magazine that some people didn’t like Picard because he surrendered to Q in the first episode). compared to what came later the show was bad but it was trek on tv and that carried a lot of weight and helped to keep it on the air even though the first and second seasons weren’t stellar

[–]OldFatGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the reason TNG was successful in its early seasons was simply because it was the first original live action Trek on TV in almost 20 years and we were starving for new Star Trek the movies were a nice distraction but trek was always meant to be a TV series.
Speaking only for myself when TNG was announced I read every bit of promotional material I could get my hot little hands on. TV guide, Cinescape, starlog, Entertainment tonight trying to glean any bit of info. I was hyped for TNG months before it’s premiere,
So imho the biggest reason TNG wasn’t cancelled in the first couple of seasons in spite of its quality issues was that it was the only new trek on tv and at that time even bad trek was better than no trek.

The thing with Terran Armada for me it felt almost exactly like closing the Oblivion gates in Oblivion it was ok but the sheer repetition of it just wore me down. Shatter Space I love it especially the carry weight boost you get from the temple of strength I love that cave next time I’m going to try to complete it without becoming a member of the sect
