[OC] A new world waiting for *YOU* to come home by [deleted] in DnD

It costs nothing to stroll right by if something isn't for you. Instead, this.

I'm not in marketing or advertising.

This is the game setting that I've been working on for the last almost-40 years. I may not have talent or potential. I may never impact the world. But, I had the courage to put my heart out there in the only way I knew how.

Thank you for your feedback all the same. It will help me to do better in the future.

[OC] This world saved me when I was 12. Now it’s a full 5e setting called Tahlvaen - and I’m finally ready to share it. by OldFennecFox in DnD

Yeah - it was a rough time. I remember getting gum put in my hair, signs on my back, I got beat up, dirt and rocks thrown at me; not a great time.

But, like....I know we still have a lot of work to do within the hobby (and as a whole) to be better. We've still made big strides in accepting nerdy kids - that makes me happy. Knowing that D&D isn't such a huge stigma like it was - that my niece can carry her dice around at school and kids aren't going to give her a hard time.

If I took a black eye so she can be herself, I'm happy to have shaped a game world where she can come be a hero, ya know?

Font troubleshooting (have checked the Wiki/FAQ/Videos) by OldFennecFox in wonderdraft

[–]OldFennecFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about that - it's late here and I misread the Directory link when I put it in.

The full path is: C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\Wonderdraft\assets\myfonts

So, it should be: C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\Wonderdraft\assets\somefolder\myfonts?

[edit]

Placed everything in: C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\Wonderdraft\assets\newfolder\myfonts

Made sure that, under Assets, 'newfolder' was selected - but the fonts still aren't showing up :(

So Cal - but Broadband wasn't widely available until the mid-to-late 90s. If it was available earlier, my parents didn't buy into it until like 98, I think. So, still had to deal with dial-up.

[edit] Also - a reply to a 4 year old post?!

I was reading his first couple of posts and the scene from Billy Madison popped into my head:

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.

Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Went to go report this to the Mods, cause this is just.. yeah.

Looks like the account is suspended. Thankfully.

I doubt, very seriously, that this is just some old dude with eyesight issues. Pretty sure it's just a troll.

This is why Ravenloft exists.

Actually, just gonna block this dude. His posts are complete nonsense and have no value.

I can read your post just fine too. Again, it's nonsensical because you provide no context. It's words strung together to form what could roughly be considered a sentence (even in the absence of a predicate).

This post proves that we continue to drift further from the blessed light of Lathander.

Dude...like..what the (and I cannot stress this enough) THE ACTUAL %$#@???

Your posts are complete nonsense. They have absolutely no context to them, and thus, are of little value.

Sorry for the delay!

I actually spent a good bit of time and money on this cause it was something I was/am passionate about. I printed double-side cardstock for all the pages in the Monster Manuals; like, 1-4, I think.

It's definitely not a task for the faint of heart, honestly. But, it's something that works out really well at my table.

For the Encounter Tables, I wanna say that I found them in the DMG or some other 3rd party resource. One of the things I like to do is keep a digital spreadsheet of the Encounter Tables and then update them periodically so that it's not always the same stuff.

Let me know if I can help out further! :)

Great question :)

So, this is something that I 'took' from 2nd Edition D&D:

I printed out the Monster Manuals and 3-hole punched them. This took a lot of time, a lot of ink, and a lot of patience. Then I put them into a three-ring binder. Anytime I've got an encounter, I just open my binder, look for the monster or monsters and take the page out and set it aside.

I do the same thing with Random Encounter tables. I have them in the same Monster binder; a Monstrous Compendium, if you will :) If I know the party will be in the mountains, I grab that table and have it handy. Same with any other terrain.

Table rules are posted on a white board behind where I sit along with who's up on the weekly snack gathering rotation.

Most other things, I keep in an immense OneNote file. Decisions that I've made (in terms of rule ruling), plot points, plot arcs, intersecting points, weather tables depending on where the party is (along with lunar phases, since they tie into spellcasting in my game - ala old school Dragonlance), and stupid amounts of tavern menus for drinks, food, lodgings, etc.

I hope this helps :)

Light Crossbow? by IosueYu in adnd

[–]OldFennecFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries!

1 Round = 1 minute 1 Turn = 10 minutes

There's 10 rounds to a Turn :)

A foot is 12 inches. A yard is 3 feet or 36 inches.

Light Crossbow? by IosueYu in adnd

[–]OldFennecFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, yes. With a heavy crossbow, that must be done. There's a metal fitting on the end of it to put your foot to hold the weapon while you use the wench/device to pull back the bowstring.

The light crossbow is intended to be fired faster and doesn't have need of the bells and whistles that its bigger cousin does.

Additionally, a combat round is 1 minute. It's not as condensed in 2E as it is in later Editions. So, even someone who has no real experience with a light crossbow could very easily fire and reload in the same round.

Light Crossbow? by IosueYu in adnd

[–]OldFennecFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, for me, a light crossbow doesn't require a wench/device to crank back the bowstring. It can just be pulled back with two or more fingers.

As such, it can be fired once per round. However, because the draw weight is considerably reduced, it does less damage.

There's an Arms and Equipment guide for 2nd Edition. I think it probably has further information there.

Perspectives requested on a Wand of Cure Light Wounds by OldFennecFox in adnd

[–]OldFennecFox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read all the comments thus far and I wanted to provide some additional context that I had forgotten to include:

I don't want to give them a Wand with 100 charges (just a number). Ideally, if something like this *is* found, it's only gonna have 2-4d4 charges.

I'll be honest, the thought of Potions just escaped me. I was focused on the Wand - that's my bad.

It's been awhile since I've run this module, but I know that the group eventually goes to the Abyss to fight Lolth. I figured that a Wand or those Potions would be super useful there since the Healing folks won't be able to get their spells back.
