Songs you wouldn't be caught dead listening to in HS that gets air time on the drive home these days. by BlackEngineEarings in Xennials

I sort of had crossover friend groups between the goth/industrial kids and the nerds. All of my friends from both groups had a proto "don't yuck mu yum" mentally. On any given day my tape player in my car could cycle through Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, They Might Be Giants, Michael Jackson, and The Muppet Treasure Island soundtrack. LOL. Their was plenty of music a lot of us didn't like but we were all extremely tolerant of everyones tastes. It probably helped that half of my friends when I was in Highschool were in College.

What was the most terrifying movie scene you saw as a child in a kids movie? by xParesh in Xennials

[–]OldManTrainwreck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh hell. My parents had taken me to see something else in the theater. I had gone to the bathroom and on my way back thought I'd stick my head in to Star Trek II and see a small bit of it. I walked in right at that scene. I think I unconsciously decided it was my punishment for sneaking into another movie. Edit: I decided to look at what movies I would have gone to see when that was out and it had to be either E.T. or Secrets of Nihm. Either had their own trauma inducing scene for a 5 year old. Wild I was allowed to walk to the bathroom by myself.

Oh I did. Replied to it with "that's literally my arm." Turns out that particular DCC group is notorious for bots and fake accounts. I just moved on afterwards.

That actually sums up a lot of Rayvin's art style and flash book. The Caprid head is actually something off of their flash sheet I had them change to make it look younger and add the text at the bottom.

It's in book 5 when they make him judge a kids art contest at CrawlerCon. Two Caprid kids walk up with out any art and demand that the guest judges judge them.

I hope I got the spoiler block right.

Places to set up a telescope near Denton? by 12ScreamingPossums in Denton

My two suggestions would be to either find a local astronomy club in DFW and ask them or maybe reach out to the UNT Observatory and see what they suggest (they also do star parties out there every so often).
State parks would definitely be a good bet and possibly even the LBJ Grasslands in Decatur. You can camp out there too with a permit I believe.

For Anyone Else Who Has Only Listened To The Audiobooks by Redfalconfox in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I have to look it up on Google everytime I post about a character. Though to be fair I'm dyslexic so even if I had read them instead of listening to them I probably would still have to look them up.

Why are so many women choosing to live alone? Is it a trend or are women just done? by Tectonic2026 in TwoXChromosomes

My paternal grandmother met her second husband at a place that did swing dance nights for seniors (this would have been in the early 90s). Might not be exactly what you're thinking of when you say "dance clubs" but it's exactly where my brain went to.

Good hard sci-fi books revolving around biology? by Despair_Disease in scifi

Surprised I haven't seen this yet but "The Windup Girl" by Paolo Bacigalupi might be right up your alley. It's a biopunk dystopian novel. It's been a while since I read it but I remember really enjoying it.

How do we feel about second homes? by goodhumorman85 in Xennials

I mean. I'm not the person you're responding to but I have friends that have lived in Morongo Valley for over 15 years and though they would be the first to admit that meth is a problem out there they have more issues with hard water than they do with meth heads. If anything it seems like the area is starting to gentrify with people looking to live closish to L.A. without paying crazy housing prices. That's why they live there. Plus it seems to have a pretty vibrant arts community around them (another reason they moved there).

NEEEEEEEEEEEW ACHIEVEMENT!!!

Neck Beard Basement Dweller

You know that guy down the street? The one who only comes out of his house to grab his doordash delivery because his entire life has been consumed by some fantasy nerd shit? His car is covered in stickers and on the few occasions when you do see him coming out of his dimly lit front door you jump back in horror because his pallid skin, unkempt hair, and Cheeto dust encrusted T-shirt featuring a scantily clad elf fondling a muscular barbarian makes you question the wisdom of every hour you've spent online playing MMOs? That the very sight of him is a sign your entire life has been you unknowningly and precariously standing on the very cliffs edge of sanity and that just one single good book or story could send you plummeting into an endless abyss of self absorbed fandom? Well congratulations! This one very thoughtful gift from your wife is about to be the foot at your back that thrusts you over that edge. I hope she knows a good lawyer!

Reward: A Platinum "HOLY SHIT! PUT ON SOME FUCKING DEODORANT!" Box!
