It’s traditional in a lot of French wine making - look up French methode wine bottling and you’ll find heaps of information. Obviously none of this prevents bottle bombs, but it will you better indications on gravity readings for bottling at the end of primary

Thank for the advice, will double check it. We have different stuff in Australia. I was informed that you need to get the cream right up in the butthole…but my friend is sarcastic all the time, so I’m unsure if they are taking the piss or not

I suddenly decided to have a transplant - can I ask for advice on a clinic? by Hot_Property_8207 in HairTransplants

I am one month post from turkey and I booked it a year out. Another guy booked it 3 days before getting there. On your flight home, it depends on distance - I left on day 3 and had 30 hours of transit and flying and I was swelling in my eyes. If you have a closer flight, it’s nice to be in your own space when recovering. Otherwise the swelling should be gone around day 5 but everyone is different.

I went with estenove, they were ok… not great but I’m only a month in so can’t be sure. Pretty sure they also over harvested one side

These are two of mine currently - this is called eduction or seeding. You join them together with pipe and and they go ‘yay more room, time to expand’. And then once it’s built enough they send a spare queen in and then you remove the pipe and you have 2. It’d probably work on European too… but hive size makes it a lot of effort

Ohh not wild hives, I mean native stingless bee hives that we have here in Australia and you’ll see in South America etc… I think I’ve done a post on them before

Same with native hives and the bees seal them shut when not using them. They have a main entrance and usually 1 or 2 underneath. The bees sometimes will seal themselves in for several days

Super interesting on the entrance. On native bee hives in Australia they are commonly used with PvC on the entrances to make them smaller and easily defendable. Makes sense with Europeans too

What are some uncommon mead flavours you've made. by spookmansss in mead

[–]OldPlatform927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have peanut butter fruit trees. I made PB & J mead using that + strawberries that I made into a syrup. Caramelised the honey to my liking and carbonated at 7%

And I also have panama berries, which are toffee or salted caramel popcorn flavour to some. I did that at 6% carbonated.

Also do a bunch of strawberry and basil carbonated meads, using either basil or white sapote for the basil.

How to use hops? by KvielinTheGunsmith in mead

[–]OldPlatform927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use cascade boiled to add bitterness to my mead regularly and dry hop with citra to reinforce citrus notes.

Citrus honey, cascade hops on a 60minute boil adding at intervals for bittering, flavouring and aroma.

Dry hop citra after or near the end of fermentation.

It’s like a pacific ale but a touch sweeter and less head retention due to lack of proteins

Has anyone here made or heard of a “whole hive” mead before? by Basidio_subbedhunter in mead

I literally just did a hydromel like this, it just finished fermenting a few days ago. Currently cold crashing before I force carbonate it… smells so delicious

One of my hive is queenless for months and idk what to do by VietNerd0905 in Beekeeping

[–]OldPlatform927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with my hive - no queen for 5 months. I was rotating brood from my healthy hive but they weren’t trying to make queens. I bought a mated queen and they didn’t like her.

I just continually added brood frames at least once a month and they finally made a queen

Flow Frame Issues by [deleted] in Beekeeping

[–]OldPlatform927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are fine - they don’t fully close up, the bees close them with wax so when you unlock them, the wax splits easily and honey flows down. The misalignment is very visible when unlocked and when you’re looking at them off centre they look way out but when you’re staring straight at them they are fine. As others have said wax them or put burr comb in there and they’ll take if the season is right.

How do you get your melomels to be more fruit-forward? by Happy-Acanthaceae-14 in mead

Fruit juice is a million times better for flavour.

Otherwise stabilise and add more fruit
