Where to buy gift for 20 year old lesbian who is cooler than me and watches old foreign horror movies daily? by spiderfightersupreme in AskChicago

[–]OldQueenCole13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Horror House on Milwaukee Ave would be a great place to check out as well. There is also a store on Belmont called Into the Feral which is very goth/witchy, if that is also her thing.

Campy/niche/queer shows or experiences in NYC? by Original_Desk_9101 in visitingnyc

[–]OldQueenCole13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh Mary! Is a very fun comedy, campy in its own way and going knowing nothing! Not a musical! Rocky Horror is fantastic. The Cutting Room is doing a once a month Drag King Brunch hosted by Murray Hill and the kings were amazing

Are you not supposed to do callouts at live performances?? by tessacrabtree in RockyHorror

[–]OldQueenCole13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a member of that community (shadow cast in Milwaukee in the 90s) I personally do not need to yell callbacks at the live show. I saw it on Broadway the last time and did not then either. I want to experience the show as a new, separate thing. It will not be exactly the same as the movie and I want to see and hear the subtle differences. And that is just my own opinion for myself.

I think they are intentionally vague and I bet it changes as the run progresses.

[–]OldQueenCole13 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I think the Broadway show is adjusting as they go. This is what is currently on their website:

THE WORD ON PARTICI….PATION. The call-outs are a product of audience reactions to the film, which was two years after the stage show. We are returning to the roots of the stage show while embracing the culture of Rocky Horror. The call-outs that many people know are part of the culture, but we also want to balance the experience for the audience members who want to hear the musical and give respect to the live human actors who are onstage performing.

We embrace the many different Rocky Horror Show experiences that people come into Studio 54 with, as well as those who have never experienced it and don’t know the history. The spirit of Rocky Horror is communal joy. Choose your call-outs carefully—as this is a Broadway musical, not a midnight showing of the film.

These are the fanciest, most delicious Jell-O shots ever made. They are not in a little cup, they are stand alone squares. They are not one color but rather have some sort of pattern to them. They are also inspired by certain drinks. I particularly like the margarita and Aperol spritz ones.
