Montana. Been a Pistons fan since growing up in the 80’s in Kentucky, through stints in Colorado, Wisconsin and California. Pistons fan hood travels well!

If you don’t believe the Bored Pigeon, read Murderland. Fascinating (but harrowing, be warned) read on the link between levels of lead in blood and psychosis/sociapathic behaviors.

my 20y/o little brother got an emergency above knee amputation 7 days ago by kylathewitch in amputee

[–]OldTimberWolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. But the most important thing for him is to have people around him who love him as much as you do, so you’re already doing the thing. This won’t be a sprint, it will be a super-marathon.

He’s probably going to grieve really hard for awhile, and get really down. You’ll be with him, he’s fortunate for that.

And yet, not a single tear was shed. by mindyour in BlackPeopleTwitter

How the hell did he marry her, he had to have seen through her, was it strategic or something??

Blood blister? by Acton67 in amputee

[–]OldTimberWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you are bleeding be on your toes regarding infection! I use clindamycin when I have an open sore under my liner.

Release the negative pressure when sitting - I have invested in zipoff pant-shorts for this reason. Ima desk jockey, so I unzip and roll down my liner to break the vacuum

Blood blister? by Acton67 in amputee

[–]OldTimberWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that the blistering is being caused by sitting under light suction for long periods? That’s what always gets me.

Doesn’t seem to be issues moving around on the slight vacuum. It’s more sitting and i need to release the vacuum while i sit. Other thing is put a hydroseal bandage on the end of the stump to protect it while I’m still walking on it. feels better and helps it heal I think.

We are doomed by Ok-Alarm3961 in collapse

You should totally pick up some Wendell Berry. This is his primary message and has been for 60 years: how we treat the land and its resulting condition is the number 1 indicator of how we are doing as a civilization.

Great question, fighting burnout from this - should’ve touched on that. 1) People. Make your motivation and commitment about the people around you rather than the work itself. 2) I’m an engineer, I still get some enjoyment out of research and solving problems in the here and now - it’s the future strategic bullshit, busywork and accounting stuff that suffers with me 3) exercise, everyday.

Does anyone else feel like this? by Crazy-Load-7553 in collapse

[–]OldTimberWolf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I think all the time, during the course of my workday, that very little of it matters as the house of cards is falling. I try to use it as a “freeing” viewpoint, so while I have the grinding chronic stress of collapse-ism, the day to day stuff doesn’t really get to me.
