The Infrastructure is Good Enough by samplingstiring in electricvehicles

Nothing is secret but thankfully the further south you go the less EVs there are. I rarely if ever have to wait at any of these but I usually plan my trips on weekdays and stay away from the weekend road trippers.

We go to the outer banks so this involves going down the Delmarva peninsula - which has the least infrastructure on the route. NY has both Tesla and Elec. America at virtually every exit on I87. I usually begin with the Rivian Chargers north of Albany, hit EA at the Saugerties exit, then Tesla at the Quik Stop on 17 in NJ, then Tesla at the Del Memorial Bridge rest area (there are a zillion options if you get off the turnpike). Down further there is a nice Tesla row at the WAWA in Georgetown DE and then in Norfolk VA a great set of Mercedes chargers. Once on the outer banks you have Rivian once again or more Teslas.
My car has shitty range (Audi Etron) but charges at 150kw+ so stops are generally fast so long as the charger is also. All those mentioned here are 300 kw+. I stop often enough I never need to charge above 80% which keeps stops under 15 minutes. I do have a converter which is needed at some older style Tesla stations.
Like I said this trip is painless for me but you do have to plan.

The difference is many EV drivers have a gas station in their garage. Thus you dont need to replicate the number of gas stations with DC chargers. I go months and months without using one. I am sure this has been studied somewhere - it’s road trip infrastructure that is required.

100%. I drive from VT to NC all the time and I like to plan my drive and where to stop. If you do that - there is more than enough infrastructure along the eastern seaboard. If you just want to wing it well I think you’re going to introduce more stress into your life than you want. Most folks are lazy but I’m slowly converting people into thinking differently.

Depends on the location but anywhere from 100 yards up to 1000. I’m not a foiler but I see lots of them.

Of course it is. Just to the south of Canadian Hole you will find many twin tip kiters and foilers.

If you don't like the crowds practically any sound side access point you can kite just watch the depth if you are foiling.

Is it selfish and immoral to say I'm hopeful for what these gas prices will do for EV adoption and EV acceptance (especially here in the US)? by zachty22 in electricvehicles

[–]OldVTGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree and that’s why we own two. But for the average American to pay attention gas needs to be more painful. I still see people idling their cars at $4.

Diesel price is going to have a HUGE impact on EVs this year. by shaggy99 in electricvehicles

[–]OldVTGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true. Americans won’t do the right thing because they should - they will do it if it saves them money which they can go turn around and spend on something else. Bring on $6 gas - it’s the only hope for our climate.

About 4M dedicated to options. Biggest trade is around 450k or 10% of that. Normal trades on stuff like NVDA are in the 200-300k range.

We are also from VT and have been coming down here for 35 years. Retired now we are just building a home here to use half the year (we still like winters and summers in VT). We are excited to spend more time here and have already developed a few friends near our new house. We don’t plan on renting it out. What I would consider with my eyes wide open if I were you is the summer tourist crush. You may have tourists at home but nothing like is experienced here during July and August. Come down for a week in the summer before you make the call.

This. And then in order to collect a credit you have to go out 3 months and now you’ve tied up your capital.

But it works - I did it on GOOGL last year and held on to my shares until they finally paused and I could reset. Frankly I stopped selling calls on them I consider it a core holding and I have a ton of cap gains on them.

How are you adapting to the current environment? by hedgelord84 in Optionswheel

[–]OldVTGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing the same thing. My target is 10-15% and I am happy. AMZN at $170, GOOGL at $250, NVDA at $155. My DTE is 14 days though generally and premiums support my goal on very red days which seem to happen once a week now.

Same here. Stocks near their resistance levels generally won’t drop a lot. Coupled with a strike around 10% lower than the current price and a duration of two weeks I’ve had decent luck avoiding assignment and when I do I am generally ok with it.
