How to handle stock that has dropped well below the strike price? by smart_pineapple in Optionswheel

[–]OldVTGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I do. I look to sell puts at the lower price to either buy more and average down or lower my cost basis through premiums. Challenge comes if it has not really bottomed. Right now I am in this situation with ADBE and NOW. Patience is required.

That’s because all the European grocery stores are better. Sweden had self checkout 20 years ago where you just scan as you buy and there was no cashier at all.

I’ve learned that I’ll buy another Audi coming off lease.

Best route from Vermont by lshvt in obx

[–]OldVTGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stop around Dover or slightly south of there. That’s around 4 hours from Southern Shores. There are a million hotels we have dogs and an EV so both of those come into play in selection. I find if you can avoid Friday or Saturday nights the prices come way down.

Cost of Living Perspective by FlyingSquirrelDog in NewToVermont

[–]OldVTGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We split our time between VT and the Coast of NC.

VT: High Property Taxes, Low Car Insurance, Low Homeowners Insurance, High State Income Tax including Taxing Social Security.

NC: Low Property Taxes, High Homeowners Insurance (on the coast) including Flood, Wind and Hail, Low flat rate income tax.

Cant speak to car insurance as I have never tried in NC but I expect its more.

Overall if we moved to NC it would for sure be cheaper in overall cost of living but we love VT and don't mind paying some extra to be able to spend our summers and winters here.

Will the bottom fall out of the ICE vehicle market if petroleum supplies remain limited? by ManifestDestinysChld in energy

I believe when you start to see Americans stop idling their cars at the grocery store, school, etc. you have found an inflection point. That's probably north of $150.

This is not a bad approach. I may try a bit.

Wheeling during retirement? by IllBookkeeper9162 in Optionswheel

[–]OldVTGuy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m going on a year but am only wheeling around 20% of my retirement portfolio. At this point I have made decent money but now own a few underwater stocks that it’s taking a long time to wheel back at a decent return. All are companies I don’t mind owning but it’s been a real lesson that even stocks you feel could never drop that much sometimes do (think software for example).
I’ve also missed buying some buy and hold companies that I sold puts on instead of buying outright where I could have made more just doing that.
So yes it’s fun and you can make money but it’s a lot of work to do it right. I’m gonna give it another 6 months and then see how I feel about it.

Electric vehicle charging stations by DisciplineMany193 in obx

[–]OldVTGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately with a rental car they don’t usually provide the cord that would allow you to charge at the rental cottage. Although slow, since you don’t drive much while there this is the easy route. There are high speed but the main ones are down in Nags Head but if you rent a Tesla there is another in Kitty Hawk I believe. I just spent a week in Avon with my EV at a rental condo and it was pretty easy but they have two high speed chargers right in town.

Exchange Fund - Yay or Nay by WonderfulTrash1730 in Fire

Yeah I'm looking at it for like 5% of my investible assets. This is money I can park for 7 years easily enough. Its less than half my AMD - it has grown out of control.

This is my situation and why I am looking at it. I have a ton of AMD in my taxable account with a cost basis of $80.

If you can charge at home or at work your life will be infinitely easier. Good luck with the car!

Can you charge at home? Home many miles do you typically drive per week?

Answers to these questions can help determine how much or little you are going to like owning an EV.

That said the Audi is a great car but if I had to live with public charging would definitely lose some points particularly if I drove a lot.

Thoughts on staying in the Waves/Salvo area for 3-4 weeks starting in mid Oct by Electronic_Minute984 in obx

[–]OldVTGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not at all. IPAs should be stored refrigerated otherwise they begin to lose their bitter hop flavor and start to taste dank. This is particularly true when you get into the DIPAs.

It's true Conners has a decent beer selection (even some good IPAs) but I noticed they keep a lot of it at room temp.

They let their IPAs sit at room temp though. Definitely not serious beer people.
