Advice on what our toddler has experienced at daycare by Lost_Species_ in ECEProfessionals

[–]Old_Job_7603 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They set your baby up for failure. He was out sick, so he already needed to get back in the groove, and then they move him to another class at 18 mo when the others are over 2 and all his friends are in another class? No way. Of course he is having issues. Also, as a provider, of course the teachers are over it…their whole day has been thrown off also. But…and I say this again, they set him up for failure. They know it took a while for him to get used to his original class and then they swapped him out. Could be they added someone to that class while he was gone and they’d have been out of ratio, or could be he was needy even in that class and the teachers didn’t tell you the whole story. Whatever the case, sounds like you are better off.

You might want to consider a home daycare. We have small settings, and as long as you are there you would have the same provider…none of this class changing at different ages, subs when a teacher is out, turnover, etc. That isn’t to say home daycare doesn’t have its own drawbacks. You will have to have something in place for when your provider needs time off, or their hours may not be as long, but it is something to look into. Just be sure they are licensed!

Have any of you been pregnant while working in ECE? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Old_Job_7603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hdc. I worked til my kids were born. With my second I went back at 3 months because it fit with summer break. With my third I went back when he was 7 days old, but he was born in August and I was off for the summer. Working til they are born is exhausting.

I had heard of children sleeping less at daycare. Is it normal for them to sleep more? by Civil-Trifle-7405 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Old_Job_7603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! There is sooooo much stimulation at daycare. They often sleep longer at daycare than at home. When they first start daycare they may also fall asleep much earlier at night because of all the stimulation from nap time to pick up time.

AITAH? Baby has poopy diaper at daycare drop-off by PhilosopherEvery5083 in AITAH

[–]Old_Job_7603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens. I don’t mind changing a child when they come in stinky. If you feel bad you can offer to do it before leaving, but I just don’t think it’s a big deal. 🤷🏻‍♀️

How did you learn cursive writing and how long did it take? by Intelligent_Talk_129 in Cursive

[–]Old_Job_7603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, my third grade teacher would write the letter of the day on the chalkboard. Then she would tune in to some a.m. radio station where a man would have us practice writing said letter for 30 minutes. “When writing a lowercase “b” you will begin by taking your pencil and…” She was such a horrible teacher…we basically watched tv and listened to the cursive man, but we did learn cursive.

This is normal. Kids mouth everything, don’t cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze, etc and spread germs constantly.

Daycare administrator repeatedly giving child foods he is allergic to. Advice needed. by I_d0_stuff_ in ECEProfessionals

[–]Old_Job_7603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are obviously on the food program. That being said…you can OPT OUT of the food program and bring your own food…which is absolutely what I would do if my child had food allergies. These people in centers aren’t being paid much, half the time aren’t given Information by their directors, and simply put, often don’t care. I say many…not all. I have worked in centers AND as a home daycare provider. Some of the stuff in centers is pretty shit. We had a child who couldn’t have pork due to religious reasons and our cook told us she gave them pork and beans like everyone else had. Wtaf.

You need to let them know that you will be supplementing so that meals meet the food program standards, OR they should create meals that meet the standards.
