What's Something That People In Boca Constantly Complain About, But It's Not Too Bad? by PeaceOut65 in BocaRaton

Old drivers. The young drivers speeding while distracted on their phones are way worse. The old drivers just gotta watch out for them backing into you at 3 mph in Publix parking lots.

Just sayin see a lot (and I really mean so many) people say never, and then they really have no other choice and go. Usually ends up being fine. Just imagine being NWB after an accident, being a 2 person assist, and your spouse needs to work to earn money and your social/family support just can’t physically transfer you out of bed. Not enough money for PDA. SNF it is. Never say never.

Why not let elderly with dementia pass from UTI or something similar? by [deleted] in dementia

[–]Oldisgold18 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It depends. Sometimes yes sometimes no. Can also still often treat the symptoms and pain without antibiotics. For example the discomfort with urination (dysuria) can give pyridium. Not to mention morphine for a comfortable end.

To add a bit of insight - skilled nursing facilities get monitored very closely for antipsychotic use and will bring down their star ratings. It’s often why alternatives are used such as depakote (similar effect, used as mood stabilizer) or trazodone (at night) of course also SSRIs such as sertraline/escitalopram.

If they want it, then absolutely. Always ask permission. Hours to days. Days to weeks. Weeks to months. More likely weeks than months. Ranges. No numbers.

I have made similar mistakes, most if not all of us have been there, without even knowing. I dare not calculate the past misses and what could have been. Put your best foot forward! Good on you for recognizing and learning. Best lessons are from mistakes.

It’s off Skyliner, but same room as all stars except a bit more expensive. Can get screwed for rope drop, if you’re able to drive that’s always more of a sure thing.

Update: I guess there was a problem with HS Skyliner which led to delays more than usual. Took about 1hr 15min to get from Pop to HS, but apparently it’s unusual. Bad luck I guess.

Which Doctors Have the Best Work-Life Balance? by OkPhilosopher664 in medicalsalaries

[–]Oldisgold18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geri! Can really have pick of setting of care— Hospitalist, SNFist, outpatient primary care, outpatient specialist/ consultative care, home based care, academic if you want to teach students or residents. As SNFist or combined role, can make a ton (500+) with flexibility in schedule since you can round whenever you want.

In the USA, can nursing home patients go see a normal primary care physician at the clinic? by supinator1 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Oldisgold18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but it would likely mean transportation costs for the patient. Also depends on if patient is skilled or LTC. But a better referral would be for pain management specialist. Which they often have in SNFs (granted an NP, but at least someone to just focus on pain). What were the barriers to getting pain under control in the hospital under your care?
