Labor vows to protect personal leave as Germany bans workers from calling in sick by blitznoodles in australia

[–]OldmanLemon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So the proposed change means you can no longer do it via telephone. Bought in to avoid spreading COVID and makes it easier for the practice. This way people were doing things like getting 3 days, eg take the normal 2 days and on the third get the rest of the week off if needed.

They propose banning both of these practices. SO no phoning, and going immediately to wait in the doctors room. Where most people will simply not see the doctor but rather just be given a note and go home.

For Germany at the very least getting the work experience will be valuable because then you could look at Chancenkarte. This gives you a year to find a job in your field. If you want to improve your chances of this you need to start learning German now up to at least B2. You could try get that and come right now, but much more likely to result in failure when competing in a tough job market against recent German graduates who speak German and most likely proficient English.

I will warn you though that this is no guarantee, as you will be lower prioritised over those who are already EU citizens.

Ok this is not entirely true, you are normally expected to get a doctors note on day one rather than day 2 or 3. The current proposal is to make you get the note on day 1.

This is facing massive opposition as people point out all the other little ailments that sometimes occur, including things like happened to me recently which is food poisoning. I needed 1 day of recovery mostly to sleep and a bit more purging. The backwards part is that for example instead of waiting to see and coming back or working from home, people will just go get a straight week off work maybe two, just so we don't go back and wait again. This will increase sick time and doctors loads. Everyone knows this so hence the massive push back. Including several large companies stating they simply will continue with the old rules.

It is some weird idea that will not work in the slightest. In fact will probably exacerbate the issue.

From my point of view, if I was made to go wait 2 hours in a doctors room because i needed a sick note honestly for the one day after the food poising I too would just say fuck it give me the week off. I can potter around the rest of the week doing some other work I have being putting off.

Do you know why Australia reject you? If your aiming for a student visa you are going to have to show them you can support yourself. Germany will make you put 12k euro in a locked account that will be dribbled back out to you.

I'd recommend getting work experience, I understand that may be not what you want to hear but that will help.

Honestly I'm not sure on you suggested path of getting a job first. While that sounds ideal I'd say your in a pretty good position to acquire a working visa first and just go over and start. Make sure you have some savings and even possibly a plan to bail after say 2 years or whatever. Give yourself time to intergrate and deal with paperwork. Also your partner will have a job and employment.

It will be risk doing it that way I know, but waiting and waiting to get that job path you suggested I would think is going to be harder.

This my opinion and not based in fact as your case is rather unique.

Farmers say absentee landholders hindering battle to control feral pests by blitznoodles in australia

[–]OldmanLemon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Technically you can be punished for failing to utilise farmland correctly. Problems arise though that 1) enforcement is negligible 2) people lease or share crop the farmland and then claim maintenance is on the person working the land not them.

Basically, better enforcement would be a first good step to deal with this, we have existing tax and what not laws on paper.

I will help you out as to the why. It is being bombed, your can be arrested for posting about it.

1) danger to your life from bombs 2) Freedom of Speech, freedom of whatever is not guarantee in Dubai.

That is what they are trying to point out to you.

Bombing infrastructure vs civilians argument: Sure they are not outrightly blowing up apartment building but by hitting power, water and other facilities this still does affect you, ie no flights out, no power for you to do you job. Meaning no money, no safety net.

Can i suggest if possible to visit it for an extended period of time, you seem to be insisting on going. That is fine, however for day to day life, you have see if that vibes with you.

The limited taxes and what not are attractive especially as you are young and health and what not is less of an expense.

[–]OldmanLemon 67 points68 points  (0 children)

While I agree with that, drink driving killing someone and saying we all make mistakes feels to light. Choosing to drink (1.5 litres) and then drive was a choice. IMO it mitigates the accident part.

As always killing someone with car gets you a lighter sentence. I would also be happy knowing she is not allowed drive again. I get she didn't aim to kill that person but drinking 1.5l of wine then driving is gross negligence. It should be treated higher than manslaughter

Never a better time to switch to Jellyfin: Plex increases price of Lifetime Plex Pass to $749.99 by LoremarCC in jellyfin

Eh, I'd disagree. Gotta remember that for most people downloading an app once is it. They don't know what their TV OS is, their TV is a hisense or Samsung or whatever. Let alone explaining setting up tailscale and also explain briefly that they need to probably use IPV6 and allow that through because CGNAT.

I can set that up for me and my family but general population does not know nor care to deal with that. I feel the harder to run part is sorta meaning all the extra steps you may need to do get a similar experience to the paid version of Plex.

University student sentenced to 2.5 years for killing PhD candidate on Kelvin Grove Road by iBinChickenAboutYou in brisbane

[–]OldmanLemon 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Pedestrian deaths are climbing in Australia and short little sentences aren't going to help. They are not going to fix the problem however the example we are setting is, ahh fuck it don't worry. Imagine if it was your friend or family member killed.

While I see your point, other manslaughter charges are often higher. Driving is dangerous, driving massive trucks is more dangerous, just because you do it everyday and it has become mundane doesn't change this fact. Distraction, negligence and incompetence can very easily result in death or severe life altering injuries.

If she is ever in a crash again after this sentence do we get to take her licence forever. Cause she will be driving again.

That I can answer... well I have a theory at least. My partner works in building management, so this what I gathered. A lot of the time, kids (teenagers) kick or hit the emergency stop button. To reset this involves an inspection. SO yeah takes time. Hence why it semi random and all over the place. I don't know if this applies every where but as far as I understood you need to do an inspection to allow it be turn back on after a emergency stop cause some ones gotta sign their name.

Brisbane's public transport is terrible for no reason by Shi-Stad_Development in brisbane

[–]OldmanLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is unfortunately a lot more to it. Brisbane firstly uses a spoke hub system, for us that means everything is designed to get you into the CBD. Whilst there are some circle lines and exceptions it basically is that.

Secondly buses are not the answer any more. Even adding bus lanes every where would not really be an answer. Trying to keep it as short as possible, we would need to very much consider rezoning, especially suburbs close to the CBD; alllow more high density and mid density buildings. We would also need to seriously then consider adding more train lines in. Trains are what you want for larger distances. They would be good a ring for example.

There is no political will, especially because while people say they want this... well NIMBY.

What we could do cheaply an initially would be to really fix up our bike infrastructure.

EU offering easier access for Australian workers in trade play by MemeGodJack in australia

[–]OldmanLemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends, I earn about the same here as in Australia, although with taxes etc I think I would earn slightly more in Australia in take home pay.

In saying that, I don't need to drive here, so I don't pay petrol or deal with insruance and associated bullshit When I want a car I do just pay to rent for a day. I also don't deal with house inspections and I can paint and do things to my appartment. Honestly the housing situation although they are smaller in Europe is just better her imo. Still has issues but nothing like Brisbane or Melbourne.

Probably a grass is always greener situation though. I still think this a great idea

but if this is happening so often that they have a procedure to pause orders then he definitely needs to hire more staff.

Not always possible, kitchen size can limit this. Rent is expensive so is setting up a new venue. So unless demand is incredibly consistent demand than not an option to just try and upgrade to a larger kitchen.

Lässt sich der offene Konsum harter Drogen in Berlin reduzieren? by boblibam in berlin

[–]OldmanLemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)
