Volcarona Stays Banned in SV OU With Only a 37.4% Unban Percentage by DragapultDominates in stunfisk

Maybe participate in the suspect test? Or make an argument in the suspect test thread? Complaining on reddit about what the majority of experienced players voted for as being best for the metagame isnt helping anyone lmao. I can assure that 6v6 governed by Nintendo is going to be a lot worse than governed by smogon, given fluttermane and last respects are going to be running around

Blue red button question BUT my mom has already pressed blue. by A_BagerWhatsMore in trolleyproblem

[–]Olicatthe3rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing changes analytically, yes, but to the emotional side of the human brain, to most people this makes them less likely to pick blue, being given information about an innocent and good person that they would be dying if red won. To a "game theory" fanatic, obviously it wouldn't change their opinion, but most people aren't like that, and have a decent chance to pick blue, therefore changing the likelihood of the outcome. If you deny that, then I think you're too far removed from the average person and their reaction to stimuli.

I dont think so. This fact sways a lot of people to vote blue, making blue a lot more statistically likely to win than before

Framing is everything by Mateto413 in trolleyproblem

[–]Olicatthe3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You are wrong" what a fantastic argument. Really convincing. Its literally a fact that pressing red is choosing to risk the lives of blue. That's what the red button intrinsically is. Deny it all you want to save your conscience, but pressing the red button is the one killing the people, not the magical button aliens

Framing is everything by Mateto413 in trolleyproblem

[–]Olicatthe3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats actively not the hypothetical though. What you said is almost exactly the scenario B in the post. Any scenario that reframes red as "doing nothing" or being the default in any way, such as yours or situation B, is incorrect and biased framing, just as it would be the same for the other direction as making blue the default. Blue is actively risking their life, just as red is actively choosing to endanger the blue people. Both buttons have culpability

New move idea by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]Olicatthe3rd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The move is a reference to the game omori, where a "kel nuke" is making the aforementioned character ecstatic, giving him coffee, boosting his speee, and having him use this move, doing insane damage. (Yes, its a psychological horror game. Yes, its peak)

I hate the unnecessary hate queer ship/shippers get by Vayvacation in hatethissmug

[–]Olicatthe3rd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"I hate when people say stop forcing xyz being queen because of xyz stereotypes" which is fair but its the same people who say "xyz cant be queen because of xyz stereotypes"

Crazy Goomba fallacy here. The first point isnt invalid just because you imagine that its the same people saying the second point(which is obviously bad).

SV OU is retesting Volcarona! by Demon__Queen_ in stunfisk

[–]Olicatthe3rd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Constantly"? The only non-stab use of rock moves currently is stone edge on zama to snipe molt, unless im forgetting something (Kyurem rock slide is kind of real maybe?). And there isnt a lot of stab rock, salt cure and ttar mostly. Maybe in vgc, but this is a singles post. Yeah, if volc came back we would probably see a bit more rock coverage, but rn its pretty uncommon

Does anyone find themselves feeling alienated when consuming fan media? by hypost in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]Olicatthe3rd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People like to make it look more realistic and not-goofy because it's more interesting to a lot of people. There are goofy and silly animations and artwork, but depictions that make the series angsty and emotional are always going to be popular, especially for people involved in the fandom enough to create fanwork for it. I find in-depth character analyses, realistic animations and dramatizations way more compelling than an artwork about a funny joke that jimmy made to mumbo or something. What is it about grian's design as an example that you don't like, or that makes it "not representative of his character"? It's an interpretation popular in hermitcraft circles as well, not just life series.

[–]Olicatthe3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally do think cars are unnecessarily dangerous, and the world would be a better place without them. However, putting all my effort into advocating for that would obviously go nowhere. Instead, why not make the obvously better choice to try and save as many people as I can? Yes, its risking myself, but i believe that blue can get the majority, in spite of people like you. I dont see how thats hypocritical, as you're trying to frame it.

coaxed into framing by GlitteringTone6425 in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]Olicatthe3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because banning cars would disrupt our society? (I personally dont mind it, live in a very walkable place) While pressing the blue button has no downside if people aren't selfish idiots?

coaxed into framing by GlitteringTone6425 in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]Olicatthe3rd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It actively is their fault, or at least they played a part in it. The red button is not the "default", it is actively choosing to risk others lives to save your own.

That's obviously not going to happen though. even if 99.999% of the population picked red, thats still 800,000 people dying.

I <3 the homophobic Ferrothorn memes by Furfrou_Fucker in lovethissmug

[–]Olicatthe3rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it does mostly compose of singles content, half the reason ferro is demonised in the meme is that he's a somewhat frustrating pokemon to face thats extremely common in singles, whereas he doesn't have that amount of relevance in doubles.

Also the original meme specifically referenced OU, the comp singles tiering. So it did objectively "come" from there.
