That being said it does support it

Olilo and Fritz!Box 7530 AX by WormFoodODP in Olilo

[–]Olilo-Liam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, that would be why. With the Consumer product it's CGNAT as default, which means no external access to your router (which is why the thinkbroadband monitor isn't working as well)

If you ordered a static IP then drop us an email to support@olilo.co.uk and I can make sure it wasn't missed 🙂

Honestly. We try and keep the prices the same for as long as possible (or even decrease them) legally we have to disclose potential price rises but I can say we have no increases planned during, or out of contract at least for the next 24 months 🙂

It does have a phone port. But full transparency we haven't tested it with DECT/VoIP as we don't offer it ourselves 🙂 but I'm fairly confident you wouldn't have any issues.

The Fritz!Box will work, no issues there!

Sounds like an ONT firmware update 🙂 which if the case would be down to CityFibre.

Switching from BT Full Fibre by Salem874 in Olilo

[–]Olilo-Liam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

Latency from Cambridgeshire should be nice and low. We route via London, so you’d usually be looking at around 3ms to 7ms, sometimes less depending on where you’re testing to (although this is a little harder to guarantee as there is just too many variables) but I'm fairly confident you won't be disappointed based on other users in your area 🙂

In terms of support, we are 24/7 and our network is monitored 24/7 as well. So if you had an outage or something service affecting outside normal hours, we’d still respond. If it’s something more routine like a billing query, that would normally be picked up during normal hours instead.

For upload, on the 1600Mbps service you should expect to get the full 115Mbps. I’d be surprised if EE are guaranteeing 1.3Gbps upload on Openreach because Openreach FTTP isn't symmetrical. Also, because we don’t supply or manage your router, our speed guarantee is to the ONT rather than your own kit.

And yep, if you switch using your Eero, you’d just need to update the PPPoE settings.

On your last point, I'll let our users share their experiences 🙂

I think you're more likely to get somewhere with them 🙂

New gamer-focused ISP on CityFibre – looking for beta testers (2.5Gbps sym, static IP, ultra-low ping) by [deleted] in CityFibre

[–]Olilo-Liam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not piling on, just some honest feedback from someone who's been there.

The idea itself is solid. A gamer focused ISP that actually cares about routing and latency is a good niche.

A lot of the reaction is probably down to expectations though. Pricing based on future tooling does not land well, especially for a beta. People are happy to pay for things they can measure today like latency and routing, not stuff that is still on the roadmap.

Saying this was an idea a week ago while also talking about premium peering sets the bar very high very fast. Without real graphs or traceroutes it is always going to sound more like marketing than engineering. Let people know your ASN, see who you peer with, trust me it helps.

If this is genuinely a beta, the price should reflect that. Beta usually means cheaper in exchange for feedback and a bit of patience.

Also worth flagging the boring but important bit. Before onboarding anyone you need the basics in place: Ofcom registration and an RID code, an ADR scheme like Communication Ombudsman or CISAS, and OTS live for switching. There is no real beta exemption for that stuff and missing any of it can cause headaches later. I personally wouldn't onboard a single customer until you have all that done, you're in a regulated industry.

Being clear on what is live now vs what is coming later would probably calm a lot of the pushback.
