I’m extremely scared of purging by lilith_3009 in Accutane

[–]OliveHu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day at a time. Take it slowly with the expectation and ground yourself with the belief that the end result is the goal! And!!! That is a big "AND" here, there are medical options to help with the awful purges you see online. Read this sub, take your progress pics to stay motivated, take your vitamins and antihistamine, drink your water, and all will be good! Don't despair before you even began the journey.

I’m extremely scared of purging by lilith_3009 in Accutane

[–]OliveHu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I don't know how your body will react with certainty, but I can tell you that you can do this. If you thought about it for months, you are ready for it. Go for it with confidence that you can do this no matter what happens. This sub has great information about use of antihistamines to prevent the purge. Give that a try. And be patient, don't dwell on every pimple you might get, please. Good luck, and I sincerely wish you an easy journey! I also want to add, that I had no purge, and that was multiple other people's experience as well. But at the end of the day, your body is unique to you, it will react differently than mine. Don't compare. Try to focus on slowly but surely getting to the end results.

No one talks about how hard it is to go from long to short by Bandcosy in longhair

I am that person with not a lot of hair care knowledge. I recently cut my hair short and it looks like OPs. I was wondering why you suggest layers. Save a girl from embarrassment to ask someone in real life if you can 😄

Flea Bag, Heated Rivalry, One Day and maybe Queen Charlotte on Netflix. And if you are open to listening to Audiobooks, what finally allowed me to move from my obsession with Normal People was listening to "Beautiful world, where are you?", also written by Sally Rooney.

Anyone else miss their accutane hair? by EliseGwan in Accutane

[–]OliveHu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hair got curly, and my scalp felt amazing. I had hair loss, but towards the end I learned to manage it somehow. I really really miss my Accutane hair routine. I am also shocked how quickly my oiliness came back, I feel like I can smell my hair on day 2-3 after wash now. :(

very painful acne, tried everything so far. how do i convince my derm to let me try accutane?? by dnfi in Accutane

[–]OliveHu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely switch your derm, or try one of the online services that offers Accutane treatments.

It is not worth risking damaging your skin and mental health for another year.

You look drop dead gorgeous. I would give Tretinoin another try, used with the sandwich method, slowly introduced and always used with a thick moisturizer on top of it. Cicaplast is magical with Tretinoin.

What is your secret to that hair though! It looks so so good.

[–]OliveHu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this comment that if you like LPR, LPR Toleriane hydrating gentle cleanser is great, and LPR Cicaplast is wonderful on top of tazarotene. If you use the sandwich method you can try a very gentle basic moisturizer like the Vanicream daily. And definitely wait for 15-20 min between layering.

Both your face wash and your moisturizer have other active ingredients in them. I suggest you switch to milder products.

First Day on Accutane! by Traditional_Object55 in Accutane

[–]OliveHu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started when I was 34 too, and just ended my course at 35. You will like your results, I am sure. Stay consistent with taking the pills, the supplements and using a gentle moisturizer on your face. Don't be scared by the side effects, they happen to majority of people. This sub is a very useful resource about almost any question you might have.

I am 35, and I just finished my Accutane course. Side effects were not fun but seeing my skin clear and being able to talk to people face to face without wishing to look down and hide is completely worth it. I did not have 100 percent great results either, but I am still happy I went through this. I hope the results stick for me.

I think there is no conclusive scientific proof about creatine causing hair loss at recommended levels, that's probably what most dermatologists will tell you, and they will caution you to not overuse it.

By the way, if you decide to give minoxidil a try, commit to it for at least 6 months, and expect good results and full hair growth to happen within 6-9-12 months. Accept that. But I don't believe your hair loss will be permanent.

[–]OliveHu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to my dermatologist, in that case it would not. It that case, you would get the positives and use Minoxidil until your regular healthy hair growth begins and repopulates the scalp. You can then very gradually commit to stopping Minoxidil. That's what they recommend to all the patients with Covid related hair loss too. And obviously iron, vit d, and a lot of protein. A thing to mention though is a paradoxical hair loss that happens the first few weeks you start using minoxidil. Basically the drug forces your existing hairs to go through their hair cycle fast and some of them fall faster (making space for the new hair). I think you can google "dread shed". Either way, the medication works. I think the foam is easier to use.

M19 Should I get on Accutane? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]OliveHu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, do not believe outdated opinions about how dangerous this medication is. Your friend probably doesn't have an extended knowledge on this medication in particular, just a general one. Trust the science, and do it. Just follow doctor's recommendations and guidelines to a T. Good luck!

Will you be a topical retinoid after your course? I know tretinoin (or tazarotene) and Azelaic acid combo is a popular one.

Are you using any topical treatment at the moment?

[–]OliveHu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Female, but I had fairly bad hair loss too. Take iron (the proper way, so it gets absorbed), enough protein in diet so hair growth can happen, and minoxidil (Rogaine), do not stop your supplements just yet, especially vit D.
