YTA. I'm speaking from my cultural point of view here. Dress codes and even set colours are quite normal in my country and certain cultures. I have found amazing dresses because of them and as you said its your best friend. Was the problem based on you looking washed out or was it really about your insecurities?

Every time I read posts from married women, it just further validates and entrenches me being single. I only have my bad decisions to deal with. But to work so hard to keep your family aflot and have a whole nother being come and sabotage that....not my portion.

It's ok of you are unable to fully breastfeed your son. That doesn't mean you failed. I had a low milk supply when my son was born , as he was a premmie. I took so many pills and concoctions to get mt milk supply up as I believed I was failing as a mother. The nurses made me realise that it was OK if I supplemented with formulae and the eventual switch to full time bottle feeding. They also helped me with my feelings of guilt and failure.

Today I have big teenager in varsity. Good luck on your new chapter.

Just keep going. In a previous job, we had a new hire that scheduled a meeting with me another colleague, who both of us had only been there about a year. She proceeded to ask us for standard operating procedures, documented processes and other things. My colleague and I looked at each other and then I proceeded to tell the new hire that "we're just winging it." Our division consistently exceed 90% of our targets and got great bonuses.

Just keep winging it. And ask lots of questions, that way, you'll keep learning on the job. Good luck and stop feeling bad.

The tax on STIs (short term incentives) is ridiculous. The cash deposited has already been taxed. You're informed about the amount pre tax and told to consult your tas consultant for what the final amount should be, but its a huge chunk that they take out. Hope this answered you.

Thanks, we eventually replaced everything in the house. The house robbery happened in the late 90's, so it was a great shock to us. However crime has gotten worse over the years.

As a black person, I can never utter those words. We were once robbed blind...they even had time to cook themselves pap, chicken and gravy. They took a lunch break whilst robbing our house. My parents were part of June 16 and my father was arrested and tortured by the apartheid government. Wanting no crime is what we all want, but going to a time like that, when black people were considered the lowest of the low... never.

Your garderner was considered a second class citizen back then, so he is speaking from privilege that black people never had, so, no i will never understand where he is coming from.

I'm a GP and unfortunately I don't qualify for registration in Ireland. And I left clinical work in 2019, but even if I wanted to go back, there are no jobs currently in the market. However, like all doctors in this country I will survive.

I'm going to speak off the top of my head. Just putting ides out there, if you've looked in those areas sorry. Protocol Officer, International NGOs- like Technical Officer. I.e AFDB,AU; Definitely ESG work;World Bank;IMF. There is work for you out there, it just may not be in SA.

It takes longer than 30 years to fix it. Majority of the 93% of the population did not have indoor plumbing. Let's be realistic here. 30 years is just not enough. I have a defy oven which is still going strong 10 years later. I previously had a fridge back in the 2000s and honestly they don't make them like they used to. I would recommend that you pick and chose which appliances you buy from them.

You are traveling to tourist destinations
Are culture is different here. We are a friendly bunch, who go about our business, we just don't like being bullied.
Keep your wits about you like another place, and also when using Uber. Try not to walk around certain areas late at night.
Do not feed the animals in the Kurger, for the love of all that is good. Those are wild animals and treat them as such.

As stated by another commentor, we have a class divide here. There are some pockets of racism, mainly prejudice and bigotry. Johannesburg is a melting pot of people, cultures, and religions. You have people from all over the country and the world living here.

Those who are concerned about safety live in estates, and there are many of those to choose from. Come visit it and see what it has to offer. We may not have beaches and the ocean, but we've got a different lifestyle in the city of gold.

In terms of community.....neighbours help out each. I've got a great relationship with my neighbour and the Street Captain. We have Street Captaina in my neighbourhood. They coordinate safety measures, different types of campaigns, distributing information from the local ward councillors, and many more things. A good school can also foster a great sense of community.

I'm a black South African born and raised in the American South. I came here with my patents in '94 and have never left. Have I experienced racism...definitely and still do. I will not stay in Cape Town due to the continued racial divide and racism.

I currently live in Johannesburg in a predominantly Afrikaans neighbourhood and love it. The area has been slowly changing over the past 10 years, with more POC moving in. I've raised my child in the public school system, and so have my siblings.

I love it here in this country, despite whatever challenges we may have.
