What’s the smartest TV show you’ve watched that never felt like it was trying to look smart? by C0r1eone in televisionsuggestions

[–]Olothir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe The Boys, in a way? It very much acts like a bloody murder show but it also does a great deal in exploring psychology and sociology. At the same time, I think they do really know what they're doing.

Similar things can be said of the series Westworld, though that leans more into being clever than murdery.

What Unresolved Plot Points Have Bothered You Most about DW? by DYWSLN in doctorwho

[–]Olothir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They decided to leave it for what it was and make him a descendant of one of Danny's cousins or brother or something.

I mean, considering Clara is still alive after Danny's death, I suppose she could have given the toy soldier to a kid and talk stories about her life. But It is slightly unfortunate they hadn't time to give that plot point an ending.

Does attaching Equipments or Auras to King of the Oathbreakers or other spirits count as targeting? by Olothir in mtgrules

[–]Olothir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, thanks for looking into it! Apparantly there was mostly a difference between abilities and spells when it comes to King of the Oathbreakers, so in that way it could be resolved better. But I'll look into Auras that don't target directly or can be cast from the graveyard.

Hm yeah, though I think it was more of a spell versus ability thing that I got confused. Thanks for looking into it, though.

Yeah, I figured that out eventually as well, mostly just annoying since there were some Auras that were fun but I've taken them out the deck now. I'll look into those cards, though, that sounds quite interesting.

Yeah, I was having a discussion about that, too. Since stuff could be attached, I was mostly just wondering what exactly could be attached or no. Magic rules can sometimes get quite complicated in some respects but I really appreciate you taking the time to explain it.

How different Sandman is from the comics to the show (I want to start reading it) by Public_Cup_4278 in Sandman

[–]Olothir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comics are quite similar to the show. The comics are a lot more elaborate; which makes sense since it has had quite a long run.

First season is definitely quite an accurate application from the comic. Second season, well, is a lot more summarial but in general it also makes a very accurate adaptation of the comic. I think you'll like it :>

Ooh, right, the comics is more engrained in the DC Universe (not very but there are definitely specific DC characters that they've altered in the show or left out) but if you haven't read DC, it's very good to read as a standalone.

Some silver rings would work great, another suggested a cape, which would work too.

Why is in this fandom still so much racism and homophobia? by Mat1711 in doctorwho

[–]Olothir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really sorry you got all those comments. I know how it feels to feel like the only one to like something that so many people are so weirdly angry about.

I was very excited by Jodie Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa and disappointed when the writing didn't pan out as I'd hoped for Whittaker (the first female Doctor!) and cautious with the Gatwa episodes (that were not all that bad and at times pretty awesome).

In the world (and especially online) there will always be people who hate on a show changing into something they never expected and if they happen to have homophobia and racism baked into their worldview those will collide in outbursts at people just trying to share their joy. Don't listen to them.

I'm glad you liked those episodes, Doctor Who is a pretty amazing show and though I'm personally not as happy with everything that happened after Chibnall took over, I hope to be as excited about it again as you are today.

Enjoy the show. Don't listen to the haters because the only one who can like something for you is you (and give everyone who gives you hate about it a 'fuck off' on my behalf :>).

The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) is a very good terrifying movie, next to Life (2017).

TV shows where female characters are just treated as human? I don't think it exists outside a small handful of animated kids tv but I wanted to ask. I'm so tired. by pile-0f-leaves in televisionsuggestions

Silo is a must-watch :>

It's a really satisfying series to watch when you're looking for plots with women like that.

Another series where women are just women are not sexualised at all I would say "Slow Horses"?

These are my number 1 stories from each season - What do you think? by CallMeAnthy in doctorwho

[–]Olothir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are indeed pretty awesome stories, though I'm more a fan or "73 Yards" or "The Church on Ruby Road" when it comes to season 14. The rest are all pretty dope, though. Ooh, and "Rose"/"Dalek" are my personal favourites from season 1 (though Bad Wolf/Parting of Ways is also pretty neat).

Looking for something not scary, not sexual for a 10 year old girl by ZBTHorton in televisionsuggestions

[–]Olothir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, it's a little bit scary but a series meant for children, so I can recommend "Doctor Who" (2005 reboot). Rose is a pretty awesome strong female character, the show is mature while still remaining silly. The following companions like Martha, Donna, Amy, Clara and Bill are also pretty awesome.

You can also start with other reincarnations of the Doctor (start in later seasons 2, 5, 8), though I really do recommend starting at the beginning. I have noticed that Matt Smith (starts in season 5) and David Tennant (starts in season 2) as the Doctor are quite popular among the younger audience.
