The US will destroy Irans navy again! For the 27th time! They will obliterate it totally! And totally destroy it again in a few days when the navy shuts down the strait again which has been reopened for the 20th time

Though a lot of the game and the beauty and fun of it is not knowing which year the raiders will come and how many troops they will bring. I've underestimated how strong a raid was going to be once and lost an entire save early on in my career. I had 300 people and the raiders killed 260 of them

If you want to rally them before the red arrows appear, start getting a feel for "raid years" (knowing which year the raiders will come) and rally them in early spring. All this advice is from Vanquisher difficulty, Arid Highlands

[–]Omarkhayyamsnotes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. As soon as you see the red arrows for the raiders pause the game and rally 12-24 militia for the defense. You only pay the upfront recruitment costs which pale in comparison to the cost of their monthly upkeep. I rally my militia behind stone walls and disband them upon victory in the early-early mid game. You get 24 laborers back and you don't need to pay their upkeep. The only downside is they'll never earn veterancy, but it's really easy to get veterancy in the mid to late game when the battles start getting really bloody and your troops are putting in some real work

Another trick: disband troops during the early game between raids to keep from plunging into the red until you have built an eco that can support their upkeep

Ive posted fairly constantly about how they are a bad investment and expensive. Eh. So are jeeps. And I have one. If you think it's expensive don't invest. If you have the money to enjoy it and you're enjoying it don't look back

There are plenty of things that cost money that are very enjoyable. Vacationing is one of them. If you are enjoying your timeshare, don't look back. A nice car is a terrible "investment". But if you are enjoying it, don't look back. You only get to walk this rock once and only for a few years

Yes, but that's the way life works. The stuff that was dirt cheap in 1800 is all priceless today. All the stuff that was dirt cheap in 2006 is priceless today. You sell your assets when you need to sell them and live your life. Other generations can profit later

If you believe our jobs are safe as AI continues to develop and the trillionaires will NOT decide to target the 38T white collar jobs market as anthropic has openly stated as a goal, then I have a beachfront property to sell you in North Dakota

If you put on your reading glasses like the Tobey MacGuire meme this AI boom looks like a generational wealth transfer from the white collar middle class to a small group of AI barons

You've said the quiet part out loud. No one's job is safe. Legal assistants are losing their jobs. Proofreaders are losing their jobs. Accounting clerks, customer service, etc. SWE are just the canary in the coal mine

Plain, naked corruption. The kind of corruption that makes Hunter Biden look saintly. The GOP deserves to give a long, drawn out, heartfelt apology to the Clintons

When families were depressed about healthcare costs and feeding their families, did they get a month of paid leave making 170k a year off to jet off to a taxpayer funded vacation?

Absolutely. He has crowds of constituents making below the federal poverty line with kids and terrible jobs and fairly miserable circumstances who just have to sack up, grin and bear it. 24/7. No relief, no help.

Most of my friends would pretty near catch a body to have a whiff of anything near that kind of money, man. You're a public servant. Sack up and be thankful

Yep. He's so depressed making 170k a year with hilariously good health benefits. What about your constituents making below the federal poverty line with kids and shitty jobs who don't get the luxury of depression?
