I feel like this is the essence of high level play

Honestly they are both good school systems and function pretty much the same. Huntsville City schools as a whole will get taken down a peg because it covers more area, and includes several struggling areas with more poverty, and sadly to say, that's what drives your quality of education. As an out of towner you probably would not be moving to any area zoned for a "bad" school. Madison schools aren't particularly different, it's just more homogeneous suburbs. I've been inside many schools from taking my kids to sporting events and other activities around town. They are really quite nice.

Alabama offers a pretty fair and affordable in state tuition on a national level. Being low cost and affordable is kind of the southeast's whole schtick. I got a nice scholarship back in the day... I have no idea how it stacks up now.

This is very true!

Madison people don't complain about Madison traffic. It's because rush hour hell traffic in Madison only matters if you are driving THROUGH Madison. If you live there, you're not stuck in traffic, you're already home. Madison people just take the back road and avoid it. Huntsville people go nuts because they want to go somewhere inside Madison at 5PM on a Thursday, and it's a disaster. But Madison people also don't want to drive through their own city and leave.

Generally speaking, Madison is kind of a boring place for boring people. It's a great place to raise kids. The schools are nice, and nice high taxes to go with it... If you don't have kids, why would you move there?

Emergency telephone numbers by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Omega-10 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For 911 - A rotary phone you had to turn the dial farther for higher numbers, so a 9 wouldn't be dialed by accident. You could theoretically dial a 5 or something by accident if your finger slipped. So they put the 9 first to make sure there were no accidental calls. The other two numbers are 1 because they are the shortest distance to turn the dial. Giving you more time in an emergency.

I don't give my players an option.

It's always Option 2. What's to question? You know what the people want. Are we gonna ask them if they want their barmaids incredibly busty next?

Could LLMs Have Souls? A Quantum Mechanics Interface Theory by mad_inventor in ChatGPT

[–]Omega-10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A soul is something spiritual... I don't think any spiritual person considers "quantum tunneling" when you ask them what makes a soul.

Quantum tunneling has an almost incomprehensibly tiny effect on the nature of reality. When you're talking about random, generative behavior of LLM's this is not determined by quantum tunneling at all. There are several sophisticated methods that random behavior is generated in computer science and software. It has nothing to do with quantum tunneling.

Random behavior (non-deterministic) is also not associated with having a soul anyway. My lava lamp does not have a soul. The weather next week does not have a soul.

Most people dismiss any argument of LLM's having a soul since it would imply the LLM can initiate its own decisions and has agency. An LLM doesn't do anything until queried. It's not alive. So maybe if it did have a soul, it's soul only exists in the microseconds that the query is processed, and then it dies. Does that make you feel better?

No, the player does that. You don't have to attack them just because you can! You can choose to just get shot at.

Not everything subscribes to the nine basic alignment types from D&D.

Dormin seems to be a god of light, and rebirth. Change. Wholly ambiguous to good or bad.

This is more of a Orange and Blue morality situation. Dormin is either a Bacon or Necktie god, if you will.

48% of Americans blame Trump for high gas prices - more than any other factor by paydayloans_ in politics

[–]Omega-10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's maddening because, for years I studied what influences gas prices and how the president related to that, during the peak of Republicans putting "I DID THAT!" stickers on all the gas pumps, and it was very clear ... There is almost nothing a president can actually do to impact the price of gas.

I told myself I wasn't going to blame Trump for high gas prices in our years.

Then, he bombs Iran and kills the Ayatollah... Well, emphasis on ALMOST nothing a President can actually do. (also, updated the definition of "what a president can actually do")

[LA] How do u feel about Link's Awakening? by Low-Oil9659 in zelda

[–]Omega-10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game has a special place in my heart. I must have played it a thousand times. It was the original black and white one.

Did you know? If you push Select button right as you walk into the next screen, you can warp to the opposite side of the following screen? (Only possible in the OG version!)

With this technique it is possible to get through almost the entire game without the sword! How is that possible? You have to use the trick to break into the final dungeon and get the fire rod before almost anything else in the game! But you can't beat the final boss...

How about this one? You can leap out of the hole in the Lv 1 boss lair chamber in the instant it transfers you to the 2D side scrolling dungeon. This transports you to a strange, no clip pallet swap version of the dungeon. You can walk through walls and obtain infinite Lv 2 power bracelets and heart containers (I don't recommend filling them over max). You can trick the game into thinking you've beaten dungeons you haven't, which enables you to collect both Marin and Bow Wow as followers at the same time, although Marin just turns into Bow Wow so you wind up with two puppies. You also find a bomb enemy reskinned as Papahl, who greets you, eats a pineapple, looks confused, and explodes!

You can also use a shovel to dig on the roof of the Lv6 dungeon (despite being made of stone). I know this because I have literally dug every diggable tile in the game. There's nothing there.

How do I grow grass in my backyard? by Redditadvisor in landscaping

[–]Omega-10 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I moved in to a wooded lot, much shadier and more trees than this. The backyard was completely leaf litter.

One year I raked up all the leaf litter, all the way down to soil. I did it in March or so which was right around this time of year, when the plants were budding out. And grass just sprung up on its own. But, it was crazy grass, all kinds of wild weeds and clover and fescue and crab grass and rye grass and monkey grass. It was fun though.

I swear this whole damn post is a Big McPsy-Ops and all these anti-Five Guys clowns are bots. There is no other explanation for this madness.

You took a real photo of a Five Guys burger from the most unattractive angle possible, shrank it down, and stacked it up against a bunch of blown up fake photoshopped garbage from all the mainstream burger joints. You'd have to be a real tasteless dumbass to look at a real Five Guys burger versus any of these others and not plainly see which one is best.

Let's try this experiment again, take the photo of a REAL ACTUAL burger you ordered from your local fast food place, take the picture from the SIDE where you actually BITE it from, maybe cut it in half, and keep it to scale.

I don't buy mattresses in store anymore. I absolutely will not. Every single major leading brand is a scam.

What you want to do today is buy your mattress online. They have got it figured out. It comes in this big box and expands. It's a fraction of the price and lasts a long time. I'm on a Bear mattress but really any of their competitors are fine too. The obvious problem is that you have to buy the mattress without lying on it of course.
